Dear Colleagues,

January every year brings new hopes and wishes for the year. Resolutions and promises which

could not be implemented in the previous year are made again to be broken. Very few people are

successful in implementing their resolutions; e.g. to 'stop' smoking and drinking, to name a few

which are common vices among people consumption of which has seen a reducing trend. With the

perennial ads people have realised the dangers of these vices. It is human tendency to divert their

attention from stress or struggle, and in the process they eventually fall victim to evil temptations

which are purported to be giving momentary pleasures, leading to disastrous consequences related

to health and well being in the long run. So, just making resolutions or vows alone cannot

achieve the slated objective without the courage, commitment and determination of the

individual to implement by overcoming the temptations.

Today, the world is facing tremendous challenges in the wake of eroding value systems in all

spheres of public life. While fundamentalism and racism has become more rampant than ever in the

developed world, it is terrorism, economic and political instability in the developing countries.

Governance is assuming greater importance and attracting public review and criticism on a larger

scale whether in politics or in business today. The meaning of governance itself is slowly changing

to be a subject of strong debates which sometimes lead to confusion in interpretation with the

evolving technological and economic considerations. The value systems will continue to evolve to

keep pace with the changing times. People have become more gadgets oriented and dependent on

it resulting in their growing insensitivity towards human value systems. However, the degree of

selfishness and self-centeredness being demonstrated today which is capable of eroding the value

systems, is a major cause for worry.

Nevertheless, it is natural in the realm of scientific advancements of human evolution. Studies show

that the younger generation in the age group of 15 to 30 are spending more than 4 hours on the

mobile apps and hardly has any time to interact with family and friends. This trend is only going to

increase and we shall see times when people communicate only with computers or robots for all

their needs. Looking at the gen-next and the pace of technological advancement through computer

applications, days are not far when people with irrational illogical beliefs will overtake the

philosophy of legitimacy and sane behaviour. Let's however, not lose track of our value systems

whether pertaining to our workplace or the societal position.

TPCDT-Abhi Foundation Kabaddi Coaching for Children and Youth from Trombay Area, Mumbai

The Kabaddi Sports Initiative for Children and Youth was taken up at Govanpada, Vishnunagar and Gadkari

localities in the Trombay area. The community and especially the youth showed keen interest in the game

and were very regular in attending the daily practice sessions which were conducted under the supervision

of National Kabaddi Player Sudhir Patil, a Shiv Chhatrapati Awardee.

In order to bring about more interest in the game and encourage a spirit of competition, it was decided, in

consultation with the TPCDT CSR team to organise a Kabaddi Tournament for the men, boys and girls within

the community on the occasion of 26th January, 2017, our Republic Day. Local assistance was to be

provided by the Shivratna Kreeda Mandal for organisation of this day long Instant Kabaddi Tournament -

bad condition of the kabaddi ground and maintain it in good condition regularly. For this purpose, three

trucks of red earth and sand for restructuring of the ground were requisitioned to make it playable before

the start of the Republic Day Kabaddi Tournament.

The local community promised to actively support and participate in the tournament. A committee of willing

community members under the name of SHIVRATNA SPORTS CLUB (Shivratna Kreeda Mandal) was

formed to help organise this tournament. In order to avoid controversies, strict policies were laid down

and informed to the community members to keep away from politics and politicians and a written

memorandum of undertaking was taken from the community prior to the tournament in this regard. The

community members also promised to wholeheartedly assist in all entrusted responsibilities for the success

of the tournament including levelling of the ground, marking of the ground, entry fees from participating

teams and providing more volunteers for the event.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by the renowned Kabaddi personality, Sudhir Patil (Shiv

Chhatrapati Award Winner) and Prakash Kadam the well known senior community member by breaking a
