DAY 7: COLPA LODGE AT COLLPAPAMPA(2,800M/9,200 FT). Today we begin our trek by hiking downhillabove the Salkantay River, through increasing-ly verdant scenery. The Colpa Lodge is locatedin an open promontory at the confluence ofthree rivers. The outdoor hot tub in this lodgehas prominent views of lush green mountainsand a small, far-away, local town. (Hikinglevel: easy to moderate) (B/L/D)

DAY 8: COLLPAPAMPA TO LUCMA LODGE ATLUCMABAMBA (2,100M/6,900 FT).Early morning we head down the Santa TeresaRiver Valley, through more populated ruralareas with coffee plantations (said to be one ofthe best organic coffees in the world!), bananas,‘granadillas’, and orchards. We stop along theriver for a hot picnic lunch. After another hourof trekking, a private vehicle arrives to take usto the beginning of the “Llactapata Inca Trail”(30-minute drive). From the head of the trail itis a short climb (30 min.) to the Lucma Lodge,set in an avocado orchard. We arrive in time toallow for exploration of the small village ofLucmabamba and possible meeting with mem-bers of the local community. (Hiking level:moderate to challenging) (B/L/D)

DAY 5 - SORAYPAMPA.This day is spent at leisure for rest or activities,depending upon guests’ level of acclimatiza-tion. The most popular activity at Soraypampais a half-day hike (Hiking level: moderate tochallenging) to a glacial lake where the moreadventurous might take a very short swim!This activity is excellent for acclimatizationand a first immersion into high-mountaintrekking! In the afternoon, guests may chooseto trade the glacial swim for a relaxing soak inour outdoor jacuzzi. In the evening, the guidewill brief the trekking party on gear and theitinerary for the next four days. (B/L/D)

DAY 6: WAYRA LODGE AT HUAYRACCMACHAY(3,850M/12,600 FT).This is the big day: the start of the four-day trekto Machu Picchu. After an early start we willhike up the Rio Blanco valley, circlingHumantay Peak across from the Salkantay. Thehighest point on the trek is a pass at 4,600 m(15,000 ft). At the pass we stop to take in viewsof snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba Rangein every direction, the south face of Salkantaytowering above us. We will keep our eyes outfor Andean condors, often visible in this area.From the pass we continue our descent towardthe Wayra Lodge (“Wayra”: wind; ‘the placewhere the wind lives’) our destination for the

Visit the Incaruins of Tarawasi near the town of Limatambo.We pass through the mountain villages ofMollepata and Marcoccasa. Here we begin ourtrek to Soraypampa, on an old route called the“Camino Real” (Royal Path) – a mild & beauti-ful 4 hour trek. Check in at the lodge. DAY 9: LUCMABAMBA TO AGUAS CALIENTES(1,900 M/6,200 FT).After an early start and a hearty breakfast, wetackle the last day of our trek. We head uphillfor 2-3 hours towards Llactapata pass (2,700m/8,900ft), where we come upon a distant butquite special view of Machu Picchu from thesouthwest, a view few tourists ever glimpse;an added value are the Llactapata Ruins, whichhave recently been restored. Lunch is provi -ded at the observatory, in view of MachuPicchu. We then begin our final descent to theAobamba River through lush bamboo forestsand more orchards and coffee plantations.Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu are a short(30 minutes), scenic train ride away. We thenarrive in Aguas Calientes to check-in to ourhotel for the night - ucma Lodge. (Hikinglevel: moderate to challenging). (B/L/D)

DAY 10: MACHU PICCHU TO CUSCO(2,450M/8,000 FT). We wake up early to have breakfast at the hoteland then make our way to the bus station forthe ride up to Machu Picchu (30 min). A com-plete guided tour of Machu Picchu will be pro-vided (2 hours). Guests will have about 4 addi-tional hours to explore the site on their own(there is a lot to do and see). Afterwards, wewill return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunchand to go to the train station for the afternoondeparture. The train takes us to Ollantay -tambo where a private vehicle awaits to takeus to Cusco. Upon arrival in Cusco, transfer toyour hotel for overnight. (B/L)

DAY 1 - DEPARTURE TO LIMA : Join us on an overnight flight to Lima.

DAY 2 - LIMA: Upon arrival in Lima assistance and transfer tohotel. Rest of morning at leisure. In the after-noon enjoy a visit to the best of colonial andmodern Lima; including Lima’s most impos-ing colonial churches and mansions such asthe Government Palace, the Plaza Mayor, theCity Hall and the Cathedral, including 17thcentury San Francisco Monastery. DAY 3 - LIMA/CUSCO: Morning transfer to the airport for flight toCusco. Afternoon tour of city and nearbyruins. Dinner at a typical restaurant. (B/D)

DAY 4 - SACRED VALLEY: Full day tour to Pisac and Ollantaytambo. (B/L)

DAY 5 - MACHU PICCHU: Full day tour to Machu Picchu via Vistadometrain. (B/L).

DAY 6 - CUSCO/LIMA/QUITO: Transfer to airport for flight to Quito withimmediate connection in Lima. Upon arrival,assistance and transfer to hotel. (B)

DAY 7 - QUITO: Full day tour of city and Center of the World. (B)

DAY 08 - OTAVALO: Full day tour to Otavalo, home of the famousIndian market. (B/L)
