AIS (Automatic Identification System) is an electronic tracking systemused by VTS operators to identify and locate vessels. VHF-based, thesystem transmits important information such as a vessel’s MMSI, itscourse, speed, positionandcargo.

AIS technologies have become crucial for ensuring safety at sea andmonitoringcoastalareas.

AnAISNetworkenablescoastal services toestablishdigital linkswithships allowing them to forward important messages such as weatherupdatesorchangesofnavigation.
