ALARM MESSAGES AND RECOMMENDED PROCEDURES

In case of sensor failure, change of modes and the ship exceeding the set limitations (safety parameters), an alarm is generated. The order of alarm message display is set according to their generation time.

To remove the acoustic alarm and alarm message displayed on the NS Control panel at the time when the alarm is generated, acknowledge it by pressing on the alarm name in “Alarms” window on the NS Control panel. As this is done, the alarm message disappears from the window line, whereas the indicator on “Alarms” window next to the relevant message is shown in the red colour until the limitation in question is exceeded or until this function is deliberately disabled.

The following alarm messages appear in the process of the NS operation:

Add Info Warning User chart is 95% full Save the user chart, then create a new user chart

Add Info Chart Full User chart is 100% full Save the user chart, then create a new user chart

Ag. monitoring off As a set of chart is changed, there is no vector chart under the ship position on the scale larger than that set in Check on scale lager than function, which means that there is no monitoring of danger to navigation

Set the scale value in Check on scale larger than function to suit the available collection

Ahead the schedule The ship is ahead of the schedule Check the ship position and motion parameters

AIS Alarm Indicates AIS transponder fault. You can look up the nature of the fault on Alarms/ AIS Alarms panel

Eliminate AIS transponder fault.

AIS Call warning In the AIS the ship call sign has changed to the set in the "System Configuration" utility

Check the entered ship Call in the NS and AIS transponder

AIS Name warning In the AIS the ship name has changed to the set in the “System Configuration” utility

Check the entered ship Name in the NS and AIS transponder

ADJUSTMENT OF THE NS USER GRAPHIC CONFIGURATION

Creating a New NS User Graphic Configuration Load “System Configuration” utility by selecting the appropriate item in the Main menu.

Press “ОК” button to confirm the installation of chart permits.

Selecting Charts After the CD scanning, all the licensed charts are by default selected for installation (chart outlines are shown in the red dashed lines). To install charts for a certain area, perform the selection inverting. Open SELECTION menu in the Main menu and select Invert Selection option.

Chart selection will be toggled, i.e. all the charts will become unselected (chart outlines are shown in the black dashed lines).

Select the charts required for installation by using one of the two procedures.

Chart Selection on Chart Panel On Chart panel toolbar, press button. By keeping the left mouse/trackball button depressed set the sailing area on the Chart panel which charts are required to be installed for.

UPDATING

Updating TX-97 Format Charts TX-97 format chart updating capability is an individual product option. The chart updating service is licensed for a calendar year. There are two levels of updating support for Transas Marine TX-97 charts: base and professional updating.

Base Chart Updating For the base updating, insert the license diskette you have received into the disk drive, and a new issue of TRANSAS ELECTRONIC CHART SYSTEM AND WORLD CHART FOLIO CD – into the CD drive.

Install the new chart folio.

In the process of chart installation, the license is required to be installed from a new license diskette (if necessary).

Professional Chart Updating After receiving a new license diskette and a new issue CD for the current year, perform the procedures detailed above for the Base Chart Updating.

Insert the first diskette with a new delivery of updating information into the disk drive.

Run “Transas Setup” utility which is part of “Transas Integrator”.

Press “Next” button.

WEATHER FORECAST UPDATE

Weather forecast update will be delivered onboard via ship’s communication workstation with frequency specified in subscription message (see above). After receiving the update, the files with extension *.sps will be saved in the ship’s e-mail client inbox. Copy these files onto the external data carrier (FDD, USB Flash Drive, etc), then put the disc into floppy drive of the NS workstation.

Run “Data Tool” Utility and open internal group “SPOS”. Select the above mentioned data carrier as external group. Copy *.sps files into the internal group “SPOS”. The files will be saved into the folder C:\Transas\NS3000I\SPOS.

Run the SPOS program. On the “Weather” page press the button Update Weather Forecast. The window “Weather Update” with notification “New Forecast found” will be displayed. Press the “Update” button.

Press the “OK” button. Update of weather forecast is completed.

In the case of facing the problems in work with SPOS program, the respective report is to be created as follows:

• On the “Help” page press the button Report Problem. All necessary information will be collected by the program. Press the “Submit” button; the file Support.txt will be created in the folder C:\Transas\NS3000I\SPOS. Confirm the file creation by pressing the “OK” button in the appropriate dialog box;

• Run “Data Tool” Utility. Open internal group “SPOS”. The file Support.txt

will be displayed in the above mentioned group. Handle the file by means of “Data Tool” Utility and send it to the e-mail address: [email protected] via ship’s communication workstation.

ROUTES EXCHANGE

The SPOS program is capable to exchange routes with the NS application as well as to process the routes created in the NS taking the weather conditions into account.

Run the NS application. Switch to the panel “Route Planning” and create a new route.

Save the created route by pressing the Save button.

Run the SPOS program. Open the “Input” page. In the field “Routes templates” press the “New” button. The window “Create a new route” will be displayed.

Check the Import route checkbox. Press the Browse button and select a new route created in the NS in the folder “ROUTE” of the NS root directory (C:\Transas\NS3000I\ROUTE). Press the “OK” button.

Specify the ETD (UTC) from the first waypoint, average ship’s speed during the voyage and time period between intermediate waypoints.

Open the page “Route”. Select the required route from the fall-off list in the section Select & Calculate Routes. Proceed with voyage parameters calculation by pressing the respective buttons in accordance with selected calculation method:

• The program calculates the route on the base of waypoints created in the NS as a Great Circle sailing for all the route legs taking the weather conditions into account;

• The program calculates the route on the base of waypoints created in the NS

as a Rhumb Line sailing for all the route legs taking the weather conditions into account;

• The program calculates the route on the base of waypoints created in the NS

as a combination of Great Circle and Rhumb Line sailing as was set in the NS Route Table taking the weather conditions into account;

• The program calculates the optimum route taking the weather conditions into

account. The optimum route will include the waypoints created in the NS as well as intermediate waypoints created by the SPOS program as set in the “Input” page. For details see SPOS MANUAL & REFERENCE GUIDE.

Results of calculation are available for displaying by selection the appropriate route in the field “Calculated routes”. These results contain the following parameters: ETA to the last waypoint (UTC), route distance, average ship’s speed during the voyage and maximum values of wind force and wave’s height.

Open the page “Voyage”. Press the button Create voyage plan.

In the opened window select the required route from the fall-off list. Press the “Next” button.

The voyage summary will be displayed in the opened window. Press the “Finish” button. The voyage will be automatically saved into the folder “ROUTE” of NS.

In running NS application select panel “Route Planning” and press the button Load Route. The voyage created in SPOS program will be displayed in the fall-off list with the name #SPOS#.

It is recommended to rename and save the route #SPOS# immediately after importing from the SPOS program. The folder “ROUTE” of NS may contain only one route named #SPOS#. The next voyage created by the SPOS program will be imported to the folder “ROUTE” with the name #SPOS# and, therefore, will overwrite existent route of the same name.

The route imported from the SPOS program will contain the route time schedule with forecasted weather conditions taken into account.

Note: The routes calculated in the SPOS program by pressing the buttons “Great Circle”, “Rhumb line” and “Composite” will contain original waypoints created in the NS application only; their names and coordinates will not be changed. Routes calculated by pressing the button “Optimum” will contain the above mentioned waypoints plus intermediate waypoints created by the SPOS program during calculation. These waypoints will be named Spos xx.

USE OF NS TOOLS

Return of Own Ship Symbol Display to the NS Screen To return the own ship symbol display to the NS screen, press Ahead button on the Control panel.

The own ship symbol will appear on the NS screen: the screen is re-drawn so that the ship symbol moved in the direction opposite to the current course.

In true motion mode, even if the ship symbol is available on the NS screen, the screen is re-drawn relative to the ship symbol.

Viewing Charts Standard View cursor appears on the Chart Panel by pressing the right trackball/ mouse button. As the left trackball/ mouse button is pressed, Review function is turned on, whilst the cursor acquires the form of a graphics cursor.

By moving the cursor with the mouse/trackball, view the necessary charts beyond the NS screen boundary. At this stage, Autoload function is required to be ON.

EBL/VRM For the variable range marker (VRM) and electronic bearing line (EBL) to be displayed on the NS chart panel, select EBL/VRM item from the drop-down list on the NS control panel.

EBL/VRM control display will open up on the NS panel.

To display the first EBL/VRM pair on the NS chart panel, press EBL 1 and VRM 1 buttons respectively. To set the base point offset of the first EBL/VRM pair relative to the ship position, press OFFSET button. The base point will move relative to the current ship position in bearing and distance specified in EBL 1 and VRM 1 boxes.

To display the second EBL/VRM pair on the NS chart panel, press EBL 2 and VRM 2 buttons respectively. To set the base point offset of the first EBL/VRM pair relative to the ship position, press OFFSET button. The base point will move relative to the current ship position in bearing and distance specified in EBL 2 and VRM 2 boxes.

Zoom Standard Zoom cursor appears on the Chart Panel by pressing the right trackball/ mouse button. A press on the left trackball/mouse button turns on Zoom function whilst the cursor assumes the form of graphics cursor.

Position the graphic cursor, which will appear in the corner of the chart fragment required to be viewed. Press the left mouse/trackball button. Select the required chart fragment by moving the cursor with the mouse/trackball.

For the manual setting of the next WP, pres Next Waypoint button of Waypoints group.

In the list, which will open up, select Manual selection and press the left mouse/trackball button. Use the activated input line to enter the next WP number.

Press the left mouse/trackball button.

In the automatic mode, it is the next WP of the route leg which the ship is proceeding by which is set. If some other WP is selected manually for the next one, all the calculations are made relative to the route leg adjacent to the selected WP.

For the manual setting of the turn arc parameters, press Turns button in Waypoints group.

In the list, which will open up, select Same for all WP’s and press the left mouse/trackball button. Use the activated left hand input line to enter a new turn arc radius.

HANDLING CHARTS AND CHART INFORMATION

Selecting Loading Priority of Various Format Charts Where ARCS and Seafarer format charts are available in the ship folio, you can set their loading priority. To do this, open “Charts” panel by selecting the appropriate line of TASKS LIST menu on the Control panel.

Use the tab in the right hand part of “Charts” panel, which will open up, to switch to “General” page.

In Chart priority group of “General” page, which will open up, if necessary check ENC checkbox to set the loading priority for charts of ENC format.

TRIAL MANOEUVRE

Open Trial Manoeuvre control display by selecting it from the drop-down list in the bottom part of the NS control panel.

Set the appropriate parameters of the intended manoeuvre:

• Set CSE – new own ship course;

• Radius – own ship turn radius;

• Trial line – length of the own ship and targets’ motion lines in the trial manoeuvre;

• Delay – time to the manoeuvre start.

These parameters can be entered both, from the keyboard and by using the trackball/mouse. Input and correction of the own ship new course can also be made by using buttons.

Input of a new own ship course differing from the current course by more than 145° is prohibited by the program.

Record the selected optimum manoeuvre parameters by pressing Drop button: in this case the count off of the selected time before the manoeuvre start will begin exactly at the moment when this button is pressed. A second press on Drop button cancels the recording of parameters.

The NS has an alternative mode for entering the intended manoeuvre parameters. On Trial Manoeuvre display, enter the values of the own ship turn radius and of the own ship and targets’ motion lines in the trial manoeuvre. After a press on Play button, values of the own ship new course and time to the manoeuvre start can be edited with the trackball straight on the chart panel. As this is done, values of these parameters are dynamically displayed in the boxes on Trial Manoeuvre panel. Record the selected parameters by pressing the left trackball/mouse button.

If in the course of a trial manoeuvre, in approaching a certain target CPA value assume value smaller than those set in Targets panel, the corresponding segments of the own ship and target motion line will turn red.

If turn parameters are entered whereby the manoeuvre cannot be displayed within the set line length, “Invalid parameters. Manoeuvre can not be performed” warning appears in the bottom part of the display. Lines with such parameters are not displayed on the chart panel.

To display the trial manoeuvre on the chart panel press Show Trial Manoeuvre button. The chart panel displays the own ship motion line with parameters of the intended manoeuvre and the targets’ motion lines changed to assume the value set in Trial line box. A second press on Show Trial Manoeuvre button turns off the display of the trial manoeuvre elements on the chart panel.

CREATING AND PLOTTING UPDATING OBJECTS

Point type objects cannot be displayed on scales smaller than 1:600.000.

Open “Manual Correction” panel by selecting the appropriate item of TASKS LIST menu on the Control panel.

In “Manual Correction” panel, which will open up, press ON button to activate it.

The updating object creating and plotting procedure consists of four stages:

• selection of the object category and type;

• assigning of attributes to the object (except attached files);

• plotting of an object;

• assigning of “attached file” attribute.

Set the updating display time (“temporary updating” attribute). To do this, check Start checkbox and set the start date and time of the updating object display. Check End checkbox and set the updating object display end date and time.

Enter the required text (“text” attribute) in Text input line (information will be displayed on the chart).

Enter the required information (“object information” attribute) in Info field (information will not be displayed unless Info function is used).

Set the required depth value (“object depth” attribute) in Depth line.

Check Danger checkbox (“danger to navigation” attribute) as required.

Files are attached (“attached file” attribute) after the plotting of the updating object.

Plotting of the Selected Object To plot the selected object on the chart, press New Object button.

Position the cursor, which will appear on the graphic screen, in the required coordinates.

To set lines and areas, after the plotting of the initial point, move the cursor to the next point and press the left button again. Repeat the procedure until you set the required number of point.

After the input of the last point of the line or area, press the right mouse/trackball button: the cursor will change its form and the object will be set in the specified coordinates:

• line by the specified points;

The screen will display a window with lists of all the files available for attaching (to view the contents of the selected file, press View button on the appropriate panel). The list of files available for attaching is formed in “Data Tool” utility.

To attach a file (group of files) to the updating object, select it in “Available files” window and press Attach >> button.

• Symbol category.

Enter the name of the new user chart in the name input line and press Save button which will be activated.

The user chart will be saved, and Load Chart button will display the saved chart name.

A double click of the left mouse/trackball button on the coordinates of any point which the line/area type object consists of, displays this point in the centre of the Chart panel highlighted with a flashing circle for 10 seconds.

CREATING A ROUTE

Graphic Method Open “Route Planning” panel by selecting the appropriate line of TASKS LIST menu on the Control panel.

A graphic cursor will appear on the Chart panel, whereas the right bottom part of the NS screen will display Edit Route information window.

Set the cursor in the start point coordinates by moving the mouse/trackball, using the data in Edit Route window and press the left mouse/trackball button.

The symbol of the start point with its number (“0”) will appear on the Chart panel. Position the cursor in the coordinates of the next point. At this stage, a route leg line will be drawn between the cursor and the start point. Press the left mouse/trackball button: the Chart panel will display the next point symbol with “1” for number and the plotted route leg. By default, XTE lines are also shown. To turn off their display, use “Extra” window.

If it is necessary to set several waypoints, repeat the mouse/trackball moving and left button pressing operation as many times as there are WP’s required to be set.

If the cursor is positioned beyond the Chart panel boundaries, it will be re-drawn automatically so that there is always a chart from the chart folio under the cursor (provided Chart Autoload function is “ON”).

After the setting of the last point of the planned route, double click the right mouse/trackball button: the cursor will exit from the route planning and editing mode and will assume the form of the NS free cursor.

The generation of the route is completed. To save the route, enter its name in the name input line in the top right part of the panel.

Press Save button which has been activated.

The planned route is generated and saved.

Advanced Cursor Select Advanced cursor by choosing the appropriate option button.

To turn on additional graphic cursor tools, check the appropriate checkboxes:

• Head mark – to display the line ahead of the cursor position in the direction of the plotted route leg;

• Stern mark – to display a line opposite to the Head Mark from a waypoint;

• Mark – to display two additional lines setting their angles relative to Head Mark line;

• Distance – to display and set range marks on the cursor lines.

The advanced capabilities of the graphic cursor prove to be useful in, e.g. planning a route along the lead lines.

Plotting the Route Using Lighthouse Lighting

Where it is necessary to plot waypoints taking into account the lighthouse visibility range, check Show sectors checkbox.

In Dist input window enter the value of the sectors’ visibility range. The values within the range of 0.0–99.99 nm are available for entering. If lights/lighthouses are covered with specified distance, their sectors will be displayed within the theoretical visibility range. As the graphic cursor gets within the set lighthouse visibility range, the lighthouse is lighted on the chart panel. The colour of the lighting line is determined by the lighthouse sector colour.

If necessary to turn on highlighting of lighthouses in all Chart Panel check Chart Area checkbox.

Setting Wheel Over Point

Where it is necessary to plot waypoints taking into account the ship’s turn radius, check Wheel Over checkbox in the Set Point group.

Setting of Reference Point on the Chart Panel

To set a base point on the NS chart panel, which will be used in the plotting and editing of routes, press Set button in Anchor group. Position the cursor on the necessary point on the NS chart panel and press the left trackball/mouse button. The base point symbol (anchor) will appear in the base point, whereas Anchor group coordinate boxes will display its coordinates.

To cancel the display of the base point, press Clear button in Anchor group.

Setting a New WP Position the cursor on the cell with the number of the WP before which a new WP is required to be added, press the left mouse/trackball button. This WP line will be highlighted in colour.

Press <Insert> key of the computer keyboard or press the right trackball/mouse button and select NEW context menu item. A new line containing the same data as the old one will be displayed, whereas the old line will be assigned the next number.

Edit the route element value.

Deleting a WP Position the cursor on the cell with the number of the WP required to be deleted, press the left mouse/trackball button. This WP line will be highlighted in colour.

Press <Delete> key on the computer keyboard or press the right trackball/mouse button and select DELETE WP context menu item. The selected line will be deleted, those following it will be re-numbered.

Use the tab in the right hand part of the panel to switch to “Extra” window and press Link to button.

In the list, which will open up, select the route, which will be connected to the last point of the loaded route. Press the left mouse/trackball button.

WP’s of the connected route will be added to the table of route elements.

All the changes in the table will be shown accordingly on the Chart panel.

Save the route as required by pressing Save button in the top right part of the panel.

Select the route, which should be deleted from the list and press the left mouse/trackball button.

In the window, which will appear, confirm the deleting. The route will be deleted.

The route can not be deleted until it is loaded into monitoring or editing mode.

TRANSMITTING ROUTE TO AN EXTERNAL DEVICE

For the route to be transmitted to an external device, the external device is required to be connected in “System Configuration” utility (see NAVI-SAILOR 3000 ECDIS-I (V. 4.00.07). TECHNICAL REFERENCE).

Open “Route Planning” panel by selecting the appropriate line of TASKS LIST menu on the Control panel.

Use the tab in the right hand part of “Route Planning” panel, which will open up, to switch to “Extra” window. In the opened “Extra” page press Upload Route button.

CHECKING AND EDITING THE ROUTE TAKING INTO ACCOUNT DANGERS TO NAVIGATION

The check of a route for the availability of objects representing danger to navigation, is made by using the safety parameters set in “Navigational Alarms” page of “Monitoring” panel.

Open “Route Planning” panel by selecting the appropriate line of TASKS LIST menu on the Control panel.

In “Route Planning” panel, which will appear, press Load Route button to activate it.

In the list, which will open up, select the route, which should be checked for the availability of dangers to navigation and press the left mouse/trackball button. The panel will look as follows.

The check process is shown in the display window. After the end of check, “Check” window will display a message about detected dangers or about no dangers having been found.

Viewing Dangers to Navigation To view the detected dangers to navigation, use buttons to select the danger you are interested in, and press Show on chart button. The danger to navigation will be displayed in the centre of the Chart panel, shown within a flashing circle.

If the route needs no editing, press Accept button to exit from the route check mode.

Editing Route if Dangers to Navigation are Detected To edit route to take into account the detected dangers to navigation, use buttons to select the required danger and press Edit button. An acquisition marker will appear on the Chart panel in the point with coordinates of the detected danger to navigation.

Edit the route leg according to the editing rules so that the route leg does not pass through the dangerous place. E.g. change the WP position.

After the route leg editing is completed, press the left mouse/trackball button. The edited route legs will be checked, and the next danger to navigation will be backlighted on the Chart panel.

If no dangers to navigation are identified on the edited route leg, and appropriate message will be displayed in “Check” window.

Press Accept button: there will be a check of the following route legs. Perform the editing until the end of the route. If there are no dangers to navigation on the route, “Check” window will display an appropriate message.

To exit from the check mode, press Accept button.

Enter the schedule elements for the WP’s. To do this, perform the procedures detailed below:

• position the cursor on Time Zone element cell. Double click the left mouse/trackball button to activate the cell;

• enter the time zone set in this WP and press the right mouse/trackball button;

• press “Apply” button to confirm the changes you have made;

• position the cursor on ETA element cell (not set for the route start point). Double click the left mouse/trackball button to activate the cell;

• enter ETA for this WP and press the right mouse/trackball button;

• press “Apply” button to confirm the changes you have made;

• position the cursor on Stay element cell. Double click the left mouse/trackball button to activate the cell;

• enter the time of stay at this WP and press the right mouse/trackball button;

• enter the speed value on the route leg. Press the left mouse/ trackball button.

For the route start point, ETD value should always be specified. For the end point, it is necessary to specify ETA or speed of proceeding along the route legs.

For the weather conditions to be taken into account in the schedule calculations, check Tidal Current and Surface Current checkboxes.

Press Calculate button: the schedule will be calculated.

The schedule calculation process is reflected in the display window. In the table, empty cells will be filled in with the calculated schedule elements.

A schedule line has been created. To save the schedule, enter its name in the name input line in “Schedule” page.

Press Save button, which has been activated.

The schedule is drawn and saved.

Use the tab in the right hand part of the panel and press the button with the name of the loaded schedule in the top part of the “Schedule” page.

In the list which will open up, select the schedule which should be edited, and press the left mouse/trackball button. The selected schedule will be loaded in the table. In “Schedule” page, Tidal Current and Surface Current checkboxes will be checked/unchecked like at the time when the selected schedule was drawn.

To edit schedule elements, perform the procedures detailed below. With a change in any of the elements, all the cells containing calculated data are cleared (data entered by the operator when the schedule was drawn, will remain):

• position the cursor on Time Zone element cell. Double click the left mouse/trackball button to activate the cell;

• edit the time zone which will be set in the given WP and press the right mouse/trackball button;

• press “Apply” button to confirm the changes you have made;

• position the cursor on ETA element (not set for the route start point). Double click the left mouse/trackball button to activate the cell;

• edit ETA for the WP and press the right mouse/trackball button;

• press “Apply” button to confirm the changes you have made;

• position the cursor on Stay element cell. Double click the left mouse/trackball button to activate the cell;

• edit the time of stay in the given WP and press the right mouse/trackball button;

• press “Apply” button to confirm the changes you have made;

• position the cursor on ETD element cell (not set for the end WP). Double click the left mouse/trackball button to activate the cell;

Check/uncheck checkboxes in “Schedule” window as required for the weather conditions to be taken into account.

Press Calculate button. The schedule will be re-calculated.

The schedule re-calculation process is reflected in the display window. In the table, empty cells will be filled in with new schedule element values.

Editing of the schedule is completed. The edited schedule is saved automatically under its old name. To save the schedule under a new name, enter it in the name input line in “Schedule” window.

Press Save button, which has been activated.

The schedule will be saved.

DISPLAYING ROUTE PARAMETERS AS EXCEL TABLE

This function is not available unless the station has appropriate software (MS Excel).

Open “Route Planning” panel by selecting the appropriate item from Tasks List menu on NS control panel.

To activate “Route Planning” panel, press Load Route button. The screen will display a list of routes stored in the NS memory.

Select a route from the list, which should be converted to Excel table. Route panel will look like follows.

Switch to “Extra” page and press Route to Table button.

This table will be automatically saved in the NS memory in the form of Excel file (*.xls). These files are handled via “Data Tool” utility in Route Excel group.

In the bottom part of the page there is Quick distance calculator window. Use From drop-down list to select the number of the waypoint which calculations of the desired distance are started at. Use To drop-down list to select the number of the waypoint where calculations of the desired distance are ended. Distance window will display a value of the route segment length between the two waypoints.

DATA EQUALISING IN THE NS NETWORK CONFIGURATION

The function is available for the stations operating in Slave/Backup mode only.

Route data from “Slave” station is equalised with the data of the routes with the same names on the “Master” station.

Route files on “Slave” station will not be modified unless they are created earlier than at the “Master” station, and the other way round. The file creation time is the computer system time at each station.

Turning on and Adjustment of the Radar Picture To turn on the radar picture, press Overlay button in “Sensors and Network” window on the Control panel.

A radar picture will appear on the Chart panel.

Press the button with the name of the set display in “Display Panel” window of the Control panel.

In the list, which will open up, select Radar Settings line and press the left mouse/trackball button.

In Radar Settings display which will open up, set the range scale. To do this, use the buttons to the right of Range input window.

Turn on display of range rings as required. To do this, press Show button to the right of Rings window.

Set the required brightness, gain, suppression of rain and sea clutter by using the buttons on the sides of level indicators.

To enter the required “transparency” value, use the buttons (from 0 to 3) in Transparency group.

To set the required rectangular area of the radar picture display, press Set button in Overlay window group.

A graphic cursor will appear in the chart screen area. Position the cursor in the initial point of the area and press the left mouse/trackball button. Set the required radar picture area by moving the cursor, keeping the left mouse/trackball button depressed.

Press the mouse/trackball button again. The area will be set.

Turn on and adjust the scan-to-scan correlation function as required. To do this, press the button in Accumulation group.

In the list, which will open up, select the necessary value (from 20 to 100) or None to switch the function off. Press the left mouse/trackball button to confirm selection..

Press the required colour button in Echo colour button group to set the colour of the radar picture.

The adjustment of the radar picture is completed.

Open “Config” panel by selecting the appropriate line of TASKS LIST menu in the Control panel.

Use the tab in the top part of “Config” panel, which will open up, to switch to “Radar settings” page.

To shift the radar PPI relative to the radar station, enter the necessary offset bearing and distance in Bearing/Distance Offset field.

Uncheck Read only checkbox to activate the function; this function is protected with “transas” password. After unchecking the checkbox, press Change button and use Bearing and Distance lines to enter the necessary offset bearing and distance values respectively. Confirm input by pressing Apply button.

The adjustment of the radar picture is completed.

ARPA Settings To turn on the display of targets, press RIB button in “Sensors and Network” window of the Control panel.

Press the button with the name of the set display in “Display Panel” window of the Control panel.

In the list, which will open up, select Radar Settings lines and press the left mouse/trackball button.

In Radar Settings display which will open up, set the range scale. To do this, use the buttons to the right of Range input window.

The target has been acquired for tracking. If you press the right mouse/trackball button, the cursor exits from the target acquisition mode.

To switch the cursor to the target tracking cancelling mode, press Cancel button in Targets group. Position the cursor on the tracked target and press the left mouse/trackball button. If you press the right mouse/trackball button, the cursor exits from the tracking cancelling mode.

To cancel tracking of all the previously acquired targets, press Cancel All button in Targets group.

To set the Guard Zone manually, press Set Zone button in the Guard Zone group of buttons.

In some time, the acquired and tracked radar targets will appear on the Chart panel within the set Guard Zone.

Use Clear Zone button to remove specified Guard Zone.

Use input field in the Auto Guard Zone group to enter the radius of the automatically formed Guard Zone and press ON button.

Acquisition sensitivity group is used for adjusting the system sensitivity threshold on the automatic target acquisition mode.

Use Settings field to enter the required system sensitivity threshold value (from 50 to 150).

To switch the system sensitivity threshold adjustment to the automatic mode, press Auto button. As this is done, the value currently specified in Settings field is taken by the system as the initial value: the parameter is adjusted by the system automatically to increment/decrement this value.

Display of AIS Target Identifiers Press AIS Target identification button to select the AIS targets identifier.

In the list, which will open up, select the necessary identifier or None to declutter the Chart panel. Press the left mouse/trackball button. Targets will be displayed on the Chart panel with the selected identifier, and its name will be shown on the button.

Position the cursor on the target identifier in the Targets table.

The hint will display the name of the AIS object if it is contained in the messages transmitted by the AIS object.

Enter as required identifier “Alias” (up to 8 characters) for an AIS object in Alias row of the Targets table.

On the Chart panel, the target will be displayed with the entered “Alias” identifier regardless of settings made in AIS Target identification group. This identifier is displayed on the Chart panel only and is not transmitted in messages.

Display of Target Tracks Turn on, as required, the display of target tracks. To do this, press Tracks button in how Target group.

Target tracks will be displayed on the Chart panel.

Prompt Target Search Press the button with the target identifier in Name line of the targets table, e.g. 316001696.

The selected target will be displayed in the centre of the Chart panel highlighted with a flashing circle.

Use Destination input line to enter the own ship port of destination (not more than 20 symbols) and press the left mouse/trackball button.

Use ETA line to enter the ETA (UTC) in the port of destination specified in Destination line, and press <Enter> key. If the system (UTC) time value is larger than the entered ETA value, “Undefined” will be automatically set in ETA input line.

In Persons on board input line, enter the number of persons on board and press the left mouse/trackball button.

Press Apply button.

Static Data area always displays own ship data, which is set on “Own ship setup” page in “Service Protected Settings” window of “System Configuration” utility and cannot be changed in the NS.

Where the transponder settings do no match those in the NS, the own ship name and Call Sign are shown in the red colour.

As other devices are connected to the AIS transponder in addition to the NS (e.g. MKD or pilot software), the own ship name and call sign in the transponder can be changed by these users. The operator is notified about these changes by “AIS Name warning” and “AIS Call warning” alarms which will remain active until the own ship data is restored in the transponder. To restore the own ship data settings in the transponder as per the settings in “System Configuration” utility, press Restore button.

The setting of own ship parameters transmitted in the AIS system is completed.

Transmission of Messages in AIS System Turn on the display of AIS targets. To do this, press AIS button in “Sensors and Network” window of the Control panel.

AIS targets will appear on the Chart panel.

Open “AIS” panel by selecting the appropriate line of TASKS LIST menu in the Control panel.

Use the tab in then left hand part of “AIS” panel to switch to “Messaging” page.

Transmission of Text To prepare and transmit a text message, press Create Message button on “Messaging” page in Send message group. In the list, which will open up, select the type of the message to be transmitted (Normal Text or Safety Text).

Exchange of “Normal Text” type messages is only possible between the transponders, which use an interface with Navi-Sailor 3000 navigation system in their operation.

Press the left mouse/trackball button. “Send Message” window will open up, specifying the type of the selected message (Send “Safety Text” message in this case).

Set the identifier of the addressee of the message to be sent. To transmit a message to all the ships in the radio coverage area, check To All checkbox.

To transmit a message to a certain ship, use one of the three procedures:

• check To target with MMSI checkbox and enter the MMSI of the addressee in the input line which will be activated;

• check To target with MMSI checkbox and press button to the right of the input line. Position the acquisition marker, which will appear on the Chart panel, on the target, which is the addressee of the message.

With the use of Reply function, “Send message” window opens up for a message, which has the same type as the message received from an AIS object, “Safety Text” in this case. The input line will automatically display MMSI of the AIS object, which the message has been received from.

Use the text input window in Send Message group to enter the text of the message, which should be sent.

The compiled message will be sent.

Check the sent message status in the table in Send message group. The message status may be one of the following:

• Waiting – the message has been transmitted by the NS, but no confirmation of its relay has been received from the transponder;

• Sent – the message has been sent by the transponder, but no confirmation of its delivery to the addressee has been received or confirmation is not expected if the message was sent to all the AIS objects (“All” identifier);

• Delivered – the message has been delivered to the addressee;

• Failed – the message, for some reasons, cannot be sent by the transponder.

The text of sent “Safety Text” messages, as well as their status (except “Waiting”) is recorded in the ship’s electronic logbook. Neither text nor status of the sent “Normal text” messages is entered in the ship's electronic logbook.

Transmission of Target Data To transmit the target data, press Create Message button on “Messaging” page in Send message group. In the list, which will open up, select the type of Target message, which you intend to send.

Press the left mouse/trackball button. “Send message” window will open up specifying the type of the selected message (Send “Target” message in this case).

Set the identifier of the receiver of the message to be sent. To transmit a message to all the ships in the radio coverage area, check To All checkbox.

To transmit a message to a certain ship, use one of the two procedures:

• check To target with MMSI checkbox and enter the MMSI of the addressee in the input line, which will be activated;

• check To target with MMSI checkbox and press button to the right of the input line. Position the acquisition marker, which will appear on the Chart panel, on the target, which is the addressee of the message.

Press the left mouse/trackball button. The input line will display the MMSI of the specified target.

Press button to the right of the Target input line button. Position the acquisition marker, which will appear on the Chart panel, on the target whose data is required to be sent.

Press the left mouse/trackball button. Target input line will display identifier of the specified target.

Press Send button.

Select the despatch channel for the message about the target (Auto is recommended).

Reception of Messages in AIS System

The default setting implies generation of “AIS message” alarm upon the receipt of messages from AIS objects.

As the alarm is acknowledged by the operator, the received messages is shown on “AIS Messages” display of the Control panel and in Receive message group on “Messaging” page of “AIS” panel.

Exchange of “Normal Text” type messages is only possible between the transponders, which use an interface with Navi-Sailor 3000 navigation system in their operation.

In “AIS Messages” display, which will open up, read the received message. Use buttons to view the received messages.

Control buttons in “AIS Messages” display of the Control panel and in Receive Message group on “Messaging” page of “AIS” panel are synchronised.

Open “AIS” panel by selecting the appropriate line of TASKS LIST menu in the Control panel.

Use the tab in the left hand part of “AIS” panel to switch to “Messaging” page.

In Receive message group read the received message. Use buttons to view the received messages.

AIS message alarm checkbox is checked by default, arrival of a message, therefore, triggers off “AIS Message” alarm. Uncheck this checkbox to disable the alarm generation upon the receipt of AIS messages.

Show new message checkbox is checked by default; upon the receipt of a new message it will, therefore, be shown in “AIS Messages” display of the Control panel and in Receive group on “Messaging” page of “AIS” panel. Uncheck this Show new message checkbox to save an image of the viewed message upon the receipt of a new message.

Turn on the display of AIS targets. To do this, press AIS button in “Sensor and Network” window of the Control panel.

AIS targets will appear on the Chart panel.

To send an inquiry, enter MMSI of the interrogated AIS object by using one of the two procedures:

As the MMSI is entered with the use of the acquisition marker, the NS automatically determines the type of the AIS object from the available data and allows the setting of an inquiry for that information only which can be received from an object of this type.

Use Timeout input box to set the time of waiting for the reply to the inquiry (from 5 to 120 seconds).

Press Interrogate button to send the inquire.

Check the sent inquiry status in Status line. The inquiry status may be one of the following:

• Waiting – the inquiry has been transmitted by the NS, but no confirmation of its relay has been received from the transponder;

• Failed – the inquiry has not been sent by the transponder;

• Sent – the inquiry has been sent by the transponder, but information from the interrogated AIS object has not been received, or has not been received in full;

• Delivered – all the information requested from the AIS system object has been received;

• Timeout – the set time of waiting for the reply to the inquiry is over, but information from the interrogated AIS object has not been received, or has not been received in full.

After the reception of the requested information or the end of the waiting time, press “Ok” button.

The received information can be read off in the target data card.

Setting Parameters of Reply to Long Range Inquiry Checkboxes to the left of the information types permitted for a reply to a Long Range inquiry, and the reply mode are checked by default. For the editing of these parameters, press Edit button.

Uncheck checkboxes for that information which will not be sent in a reply to the inquiry.

From Replay mode drop-down list, select the mode of a reply to a Long Range inquiry. If Auto is selected, the reply is sent automatically and contains only that requested information, which is allowed by the operator.

Press Apply button to apply the settings you have made.

Long Range Alarm checkbox is checked by default, this is why an alarm is generated by the reception of a Long Range inquiry. To disable the alarm generation, uncheck the checkbox.

Manual Reply to Long Range Inquiry As a manual reply to a Long Range inquiry is set, Reply button is activated.

Press Reply button for a manual reply to an inquiry. The reply is sent and contains only that requested information, which is allowed by the operator.

Deleting of Long Range Inquiry Use the cursor to select from the table the inquiry you wish to delete.

Press Delete button. The inquiry will be deleted.

Dead Reckoning of AIS Targets To turn this functionality on, perform the following procedure:

• run “System Configuration” utility;

• switch to “Service” tab and enter the NS system password (“transas” by default);

• switch to “AIS” page: – turn on Use DR for AIS Targets option;

– set the required value of Minimal SOG to Activate parameter. In this case, dead reckoning will be performed for those AIS targets only whose speed (SOG) exceeds the set value.

In this case, the following specific features of dead reckoning for AIS targets should be taken into account: – dead reckoning of targets is made from the latest data on the true course and

speed (COG/SOG). As the rate of data transmission from the targets is dependent on their speed, manoeuvring and navigation status, time before the data arrival may be as much as 10 seconds (see NAVI-SAILOR 3000 ECDIS-I (V. 4.00.07). OPERATING PRINCIPLES document);

– as the target data is updated by the transponder and the NS, is it displayed on the screen in accordance with the last received coordinates;

– there can be no dead reckoning of AIS targets with “At anchor” and “Moored” status;

– if the target was lost, it continues to be reckoned for 40 seconds from the last data received from it, whereupon it is assigned “Lost target” status. Dead reckoning of a target with such status is stopped, and it is cancelled after another 30 seconds.

Prompt Target Search Open “Targets” panel by selecting the appropriate line of TASKS LIST menu in the Control panel.

In Show Target group of “Targets” panel, which will open up, press the button of the required sensor, e.g. ARPA-A.

ARPA targets will appear in the Chart panel, and their motion parameters will be displayed in the targets table.

The target will be set in the specified coordinates and with the selected parameter; the acquisition marker will be free again for the acquisition of a new target.

Information Displayed Graphically After the selection of the reference point, “Diagram” window will open up, displaying the tidal curve for the selected reference point.

In Date line of “Diagram” window select the date starting from which the tidal heights will be calculated. Use Period input line to enter the period which tidal heights are required to be calculated for.

Check Cursor Data checkbox. Position the cursor on the tidal curve and by moving the cursor with the mouse/trackball, set the necessary time value in the cursor information window.

Read the tidal height value in the cursor information window.

Information Displayed in a Tabular Form After the selection of the reference point, “Diagram” window will open up displaying the tidal curve for the selected reference point.

The left hand part of the page will display a table of high and low water.

Use Step input line to enter the discretion of the hydrometeo parameter value change.

View the changes in the hydrometeo parameter values by using buttons.

On the Chart panel, the selected hydrometeo parameters will change with the set discretion.

For the automatic change of hydrometeo parameters with the set discretion, press Auto button.

USE OF PLAY BACK UTILITY

Viewing Own Ship and Target Motion Load “Play Back” utility by selecting the appropriate name in the Main menu.

After the loading, the utility panel with “Play Back” control window will appear.

Press Track date button in the top left corner of “Play Back” window.

In the list, which will open up, select the required date and press the left mouse/trackball button. The Chart panel will display the tracks of the own ship and targets as of the selected date. Use Time input line to enter the value of the time, which the dynamic display is required to start from, and press <Enter> key.

Press Time step button in the right bottom part of the window.

In the list, which will open up, select the situation playback scale relative to the real time and press the left mouse/trackball button.

Make the necessary adjustments as required by using the functions similar to the NS environment functions.

Press playback start button.

“Replay” message will appear in Mode line in the top right corner of the panel, whilst on the Chart panel the ship motion will be played back on the set time scale.

For the fast time presentation, press button and then button.

To set the own ship symbol in the point on the own ship track, which the situation playback should be started from, and press Start by cursor button. Set the ship symbol in the required track point by using the mouse/trackball, and press the left button. The playback of motion will start from the point where the ship symbol was set. With Start by cursor button depressed, the motion of the own ship and targets can be played back by using the mouse/trackball or <↑↓> keyboard keys with a discretion of 1 minute.

Viewing Archive Radar Picture Load “Play Back” utility by selecting the appropriate name in the Main menu.

After the loading, the utility panel with “Play Back” control window will appear.

In the list, which will open up, select the required data and press the left mouse/trackball button). The Chart panel will display the tracks of the own ship and targets as of the selected date. Use Time input line to enter the value of the time, which the dynamic display is required to start from, and press <Enter> key.

Press Time step button in the right bottom part of the window.

In the list, which will open up, select the situation playback scale relative to the real time and press the left mouse/trackball button.

To turn on the radar picture display, press Overlay button in “Sensors and Network” window on the Control panel.

Make the necessary adjustments as required by using the functions similar to the NS environment functions.

The window will close down, the path to the directory will be specified in External line.

In the left hand window with a list of files, position the cursor on the file which is required to be copied onto the external carrier, and press the left mouse/trackball button.

Press Copy button in the utility Main menu: the screen will display a message with a warning that a directory with a certain name is required to be created, as appropriate to the selected group (if the directory is already available, there will be no warning).

Confirm the copying and the creation of the directory by pressing “Yes” button.

The name of and information on the file will be displayed in the right hand window.

The copying is completed.

Copying Data from an External Carrier Use the standard Windows facilities to create a folder on the external carrier in the root directory, which would have the same name as in the NS. E.g. to create a list of attached files, create ADD_INFO (A:\ADD_INFO) folder. Copy the files, which have to copied to the NS, in this folder.

Load “Data Tool” utility by selecting the appropriate name in the Main menu.

In Internal group of the utility panel, which will open up, press button to display a list of files. A list of file groups will be displayed.

In “Deck Log Book Converter” window, which will open up, check the checkboxes in Filters group to display the necessary groups of events.

In Time group, set the time interval for converting the log data, which falls within this interval.

To confirm the settings you have made, press “OK” button in the bottom part of the window. The converted file will be added to the general file list with the same name and extension *.TXT.

The converting process is completed.

NS2400/(2500) Has Been Removed Download from http://www.transas.com/support.asp file _NSxx00.exe. This SFX archive contains files required for the operation of a converter of ADD_INFO user charts, which were created in NS2400/2500 product series, to the format used by NS3000 series products.

Unpack this archive to the C:\Transas directory. This directory should the following structure:

Copy ADD_INFO user files (*.cra) to the С:\Transas\_NSxx00\ADD_INFO directory.

OWN SHIP TRACK IN THE NS

Setting Track Display Elements Open “Monitoring” panel by selecting the appropriate line of TASKS LIST menu on the Control panel.

Use the tab in the top part of “Monitoring” panel, which will open up to switch to “Route Monitoring” page.

In Track settings group of “Route Monitoring” page, which will open up, set the colour of the track segment, which is being formed, by selecting it from the offered Track сolour palette.

Press Plot interval button.
