Great toys, great prices in GreenhillsIF YOU happen to pass by Annapo-lis Street in Greenhills you may besurprised to find a newly openedTOYS AND SPORTS shop situatedon the 2nd Floor of Intrawest Bldg, beside One Beverly Place and At-lanta Center and a few strides awayfrom Greenhills Shopping Center .To casual passer-bys the logo maybe no more than an object of curiosi-ty but for toy collectors it is a familiarand welcome sight. GREAT-TOYSONLINE.COM is the brain-child of Mr. Malvin Lim who, morethan 10 years ago, visualized a col-lectables shop infused with theemerging online technology duringthe rise of the internet era, faithful tothe motto: "Great toys, great prices."An avid collector himself, he envi-sioned something more for the brandand something more for his clientsand customers.Ten years and five branches later inJuly 2012, Malvin unveiled his mas-terpiece. The newly opened GREAT-
TOYSONLINE.COM TOY ANDSPORTS Mega-store in Annapolis,Greenhills is a sight to behold,a mas-sive toy store sprawling 250 squaremeters, arrayed with displays andshelves stockpiled with the wishes, wants and needs of every collector.Truly, it is enough to reduce a fanboyto giggles of excitement, anticipationand awe. So sayeth Malvin: "Ourplan is to have a shop that has allthe greatest toys under one roof inone place. A store big enough for-customers to enjoy and relax." Notbad for a brand which used to occu-py a small shelf space within a sport-ing goods store near Pedro Gil inTaft Avenue.Definitely, not bad for a guy who justhappened to be your average toycollector but with a vision, a plan anda sense of determination to bring hisdreams, and every other collectors'dreams to fruition. Amalia, Liezl kiss and make upBy Dolly Anne Carvajal
MY “second mom,” AmaliaFuentes, celebrated her 72ndbirthday at Barrio Fiesta on Aug.27. It was an intimate gatheringof family and close friends, de-
void of show biz fanfare which made the oc-casion more meaningful.
(Liezl’s stepdad wholoved her like hisown), Liezl’s boutwith cancer (whichshe has triumphedover), and the showbiz squabble MamaNena is embroiled incan be too much tohandle. But thesestorms have stabi-lized their roller-coaster relationship.
‘Justmy mom’
“Family is familytalaga,” Mama Nenasaid. “Liezl and Ipatched things upwhen things gotrough. Her supportgives me all thestrength that I need. So, even if I’m facinga show biz war, no-body can harm mebecause I have Liezl,my apos and entireclan behind me.”
Liezl echoed thosesentiments: “I wishmy mom the best ofhealth always. I’vecome to realize thatthe most importantthings in life arefamily and goodhealth. I love hervery much and will
always be behindher, no matterwhat.”
On Liezl’s Face-book page, she post-ed this greeting thatread in part: “At theend of the day, I amstill proud of howyou raised me …and gave me all thebest things that youcould! I got my lovefor travel from you… fighting for fami-ly, and of course mylove for water. Eliza-beth Taylor of thePhilippines … Queenof Philippine movies… you are still justmy one and onlymama … I am solucky to have you!”
Mama Nena andLiezl have come tolook more and morelike each other. Andnow they also feeland think the sameway, which makesthem understandeach other better. From now on, theymay just be arguingabout who loves theother more.
“I’ve never felt asloved as I dotonight,” Mama Ne-na gushed. “Every-one close to myheart is present.”
Her party turnedout to be extra spe-cial because hergranddaughter,Alyanna, had justrecovered after sev-eral weeks of hospi-tal confinement.
A concelebrated
thanksgiving Masswas presided over bythe Muhlachs’ fa-vorite priest and Ma-ma Nena’s confessor,Father Armand Tan-gi, with Fr. TedLopez and Fr. JoeyTuazon.
The birthday girlwas misty-eyed dur-ing her speech afterthe Mass: “My heartis overflowing withjoy. After all the tri-als … that mydaughter Liezl and Ihave gone through, all the wounds arehealed.”
Having been privyto their colorful anddramatic mother-daughter saga, I’mmore than happythat Mama Nena andLiezl are again closerthan ever.
