FEBRUARY…….the month of LOVE, PASSION & ROMANCE. What a beautiful month. Brian and I met on Valentine’s Day 20 years ago and even though we weren’t married until July 4th, (10 years later), we still celebrate our Anniversary on V-Day and then on the 4th we pretend all the fireworks are just for us. Cool.

But I have to tell you guys…..”if” you don’t take care of yourwoman on Valentine’s Day, regardless of whether she says it’s just another day, you will damn sure be paying for it the rest of the year. Damn sure. Women want a little romance, well, we actually want a lot of romance but we’ll settle for a little. Just a card and some Target roses and baby, you are inlike Flint, so, show her she definitely matters in your life and you my friend may be a bit surprised come beddy-bye time. Oh, yeah, that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

Don’t usually get involved in the silly quibbles going on within the confines of Planet Hollywood, but that commercial that Brad Pitt made for Chanel #5, OMG! I have never Tivoed a commercial in my life, but ladies, come on, back me up……..if that is not the sexiest commercial out there in a long time then if I’m lyin’, I’m dyin’. It is fresh and smokin’ hot. And what kills me is that he got so much flack from it by jealous buddies, they pulled the ad and to that I just have to throw down a bonafide BULLCHIT! How many lame-o’s do commercials and we think nothing about it, but no, let Brad do something totally off the charts and he’s attacked and parodied by every jealous man out there. Mediocrity always attacksexcellence, just remember that Brad. It was honest, heartfelt and so f***in sexy, dude. You should become the permanent spokesperson for Chanel #5 and laugh your ass off all the way to the bank. And that’s all I have to say about that.

I believe in LOVE and I know for a fact that love is the most powerful emotion on Earth. I know unconditional love can change a person into a better self and love can provide inspiration and love can give you something to hold onto when it seems all else has abandoned you. LOVE is the one entity that can literally save your soul. It changed my life and Brian’s, and all for the better and now we have this magazine we LOVE and with the grace and the belief of the advertisers who are in it every month, we are allowed to present it to you every month, for FREE. So, show your love and give back to those whom support the mag. Happy Valentine’s Day Bikers…..we damn sure LOVE y’all. toni & brian

CMT/ABATE, Inc. is not a “Biker Club”, but a non-profit, political organization that was formed to preserve freedom and safety for all Tennesseans who enjoy motorcycling. Their major goals are to modify existing laws that are detrimental to motorcycle safety and enjoyment, and to enact new legislation in support of all motorcyclists who ride in Ten-nessee. If you are concerned about preserv-ing personal freedom and motorcycle safety, please join us.

Each year CMT/Abate holds a Christmas Toy Run in order to raise money and collect food and toys for needy families in the Old Hickory and Madison area. Rose Black is an avid sup-porter and active member of CMT/Abate and this year she welcomed 50 bikes and riders to her bar, Skullys Saloon, at 10am for regis-tration, coffee and doughnuts. Vista Carroll and Pastor Kay Zoorhers from The Christian Outreach Center of The Ruth Ensor Memorial United Church in Old Hickory were present for kick stands up and Kay so very kindly said a blessing for the bikes, bikers, and the ride. For a donation of $10 per person, we played 5 cards, one at each stop, for a grand prize of $200. The stops included Friend’s in Joelton, Dry Dock on Clarksville Hwy., Val’s Place, Sling Shots on Due West, O’Rendevous in Madison, and back to Skully’s Saloon for the final tally, announcement of the winner, and a buffet dinner. $1000.00 in cash was raised along with 3 vans filled with toys and food for at least 70 children. The winner of the poker run was Jody Earls. He was kind enough to donate $100 of the $200 dollar prize back to the cause. It was such a great feeling to be part of such a wonderful and caring event. Thanks to all of the bars and owners who sponsored the stops. And hats off to Wendell and all the CMT/Abate members who helped to put together a great Toy Run for a wonder-ful cause. Keep your eyes and ear’s open for the BIG CMT/Abate membership drive party in January. Great job well done! Keep up the good work! You all are greatly appreciated especially by the biker community. Thanks Rose for the hospitality and for leading the ride. You ROCK!

Place sliced mushrooms in a 1/4 inch of olive oil fortotal browning over medium-low heat. Combine corn-starch and water in a small bowl, stirring until smooth. Add next 5 ingredients, pour over chicken. slow roast on top of stove for 1 hour or until chicken is done. Serve with buttered noodles. * My mom used to make this same recipe in a cast iron skillet, but she’d jazz it up by adding strips of green, red and yellow peppers and letting it all cook down on top of stove with a cover over 3/4 of the skil-let to allow air to flow. Green chilies is a nice addition also. Any way you do it, this dish is fabulour and the key to it is slow and steady. Don’t rush the good stuff.

In a blender or food processor, combine yogurt and cranberry jice. Add strawberries, raspberries and sugar; cover adn process until blended. Pour into chilled, fancy dessert glasses. Serve immediately. These are so rich, you can serve as dessert.

Beat whipping cream at medium speed with an elec-tric mixer until foamy; gradually add powdered sugar; beating at high speed until soft peaksj form. Gently stir in liqueur and lemon rind. Serve with chilled, fresh strawberries and dip away. Prepare and bake cake according to package direc-tions, using two greased and floured 9-inch round baking pans. Cool for 10 minutes, remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch and salt; gradually stir in milk until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir for 2 minutets or until thickened. Re-move from the heat. Stir a small amount of hot filling into egg yolks; return all to pan, stirring constantly. Bring to a gentle boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover and refrigerate until chilled. Place half of the whipped topping in a bowl; add strawberries. Split each cake into two horizontal lay-ers; plce one layer on a serving plate. Spread with half of the strawberry mixture. Top with a second cake layer; sperad with custard. Add third layer; sperad with remaining strawberry mixture. Top with remain-ing cake and whipped topping. Refrigerate overnight. Garnish and serve.

CONGRESS GIVES TAX BREAK TO ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE BUYERSTax hikes and spending cuts dominated holiday headlines as the federal government teetered on the edge of the Fiscal Cliff, but the legislative package passed on New Year’s Day to resolve the issue, dubbed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, included several tax credit extensions that didn’t generate as much media interest – including one for electric motorcycles.

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden (D) sponsored the amendment extending the EV tax credit, which covers 10% of the cost of a qualified electric vehicle, up to $2,500. Vehicles must be a two- or three-wheeled plug-in electric designed “primarily for use on public streets, roads, and highways” and “capable of achieving a speed of 45 miles per hour or greater.”

Electric-powered two wheelers have been without a federal purchase incentive since the end of 2011, when the original tax break expired that was part of the $800 billion stimulus package passed in 2009.

A coalition of EV motorcycle companies, through Plug-In America, lobbied Congress to extend the tax credits, which are also retroactive and apply for electric motorcycles or EV chargers purchased in 2012 as well.

Wyden argues that extending the tax credit will help generate jobs in the growing electric motorcycle industry. “The electric motorcycle industry is poised to create tens of thousands of U.S. jobs over the next five years, led by companies like Oregon’s Brammo,” said Wyden. “This amendment helps promote the development of a promising U.S. industry and support the transition to a low-carbon American economy.”

E-CYCLES PROJECTED TO OUTSELL PLUG-IN CARSAccording to two new Pike Research reports, electric scooters and motorcycle sales are going to eclipse that of plug-in vehicles by the end of this decade.

In one report from Pike Research which looks at electric motorcycles and scooters, the study predicts that “annual sales of e-motorcycles and e-scooters will reach 18.6 million by 2018.”

Pike Research points primarily to industries such as delivery companies, police and security forces, and even taxi services in some locations as the prime mover for the increase in sales of electric motorcycles and scooters.

Another recently released Pike Research report predicted that annual worldwide sales of electric vehicles will reach 3.8 million by 2020. This includes plug-in electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles selling in the Asia Pacific, North America, and Western Europe.

“Sales of EVs have not lived up to automakers’ expectations and politicians’ proclamations, but the market is expanding steadily as fuel prices remain high and consumers increasingly seek alternatives to internal combustion engines,” says senior research analyst Dave Hurst. “Indeed, sales of plug-in EVs will grow at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 40% over the remainder of the decade, while the overall auto market will expand by only two percent a year.”

Taken together, the two Pike Research reports indicate that two-wheel EV sales will outperform electric four-wheelers by a margin of 5-1 by the end of the decade. Currently, China is the biggest market for the sale of these electric vehicles, accounting for 81% of the global electric motorcycle and scooter market.

EPA TO DROP FOUR GALLON MINIMUM GAS PURCHASESEthanol-laden gasoline is known to cause engine damage, and many manufacturers warn that using the product will invalidate warranties, so when the EPA approved E15 (fuel blend containing 15% ethanol) it raised concerns amongst motorcyclists, off-roaders, snowmobilers, boaters and

others who use vehicles and equipment driven by small gas-powered motors…none of which are approved for its use.

The EPA’s response was to require a minimum four gallon purchase, the misguided rationale being that it would dilute any residual E15 remaining in a gas pump’s lines. Again, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency came under fire, with powersports and automotive groups pushing back against the federal agency’s push for the grain alcohol-blended biofuel.

Apparently realizing that a viable solution to the problem needs to be conceived, the EPA is abandoning its four-gallon minimum on blender pumps that dispense both E10 and E15 from the same pump, and instead the government body says it will likely require gas stations to label shared pumps, as well as offer a dedicated E10 pump/hose for non-approved vehicles.

In the meantime, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia has denied a rehearing on the EPA decision to put E15 on the market. The federal appellate court decision is a setback for the oil-and-gas industry, which opposes the use of E15 and a federal biofuel blending mandate that requires refiners to blend 36 billion gallons of biofuels into traditional transportation fuels by 2022.

NEW YEAR, NEW LAWSThe new year puts new laws on the books across the country, with state and local governments ringing in 2013 with a mix of new laws ranging from the innovative to the odd; one in Kansas City says households can’t have more than four cats, while a town in Massachusetts is banning businesses from selling plastic bottles. In Florida, drivers can once again flash their headlights to warn others of upcoming speed traps, which was previously outlawed. Meanwhile, driverless cars in California got the green light to hit the public roads, but one of Illinois’ 150 new laws prohibits motorcycle riders from popping wheelies -- Public Act 97-743 imposes a fine of $1,000 on anyone who pops a wheelie on a motorcycle while speeding.

WOMAN FIRED OVER HUSBAND BEING IN A MOTORCYCLE CLUBHer husband’s membership in a motorcycle club has cost the job of a human resources technician with the city of Kingman in northwest Arizona, according to a Phoenix lawyer who is representing the woman in her bid for reinstatement.

The city served 11-year employee Melissa Summerson a notice of intent the day after Christmas and terminated her employment Dec. 28, attorney David Kresin told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “She was terminated for the stated reason of her husband’s membership in a family motorcycle club - the Desert Roadriders,” he said, adding that the dismissal violates her constitutional right to freedom of association. “There’s no allegation that Ms. Summerson personally did anything wrong in her job or engaged in any conduct personally that violated any of the city’s rules, and we believe there’s no cause for termination as she’s been an outstanding employee with a great record for her entire employment.”

CRIMINALS MORE PRONE TO CRASH THEIR MOTORCYCLESMotorcyclists who have criminal records are twice as likely to get into accidents on the road than their law-abiding peers, a new Swedish study has found.

The findings come from an examination of more than 5,000 motorcycle accidents carried out by Karolinska Institute epidemiologist Michael Fored.

He went through statistics and looked at motorcycle riders who have a license and then cross-referenced the names with the criminal register.

“If you’ve been convicted of a crime before, we see at least double the risk that you’ll get into a serious accident,” Fored told the TT news agency.

Among non-offenders, there are 4.1 accidents per 1,000 license-holders annually. However, that figure jumped up to 27.7 when looking at drivers who had at least two criminal convictions.

EUROPE SET TO MANDATE ABS FOR MOTORCYCLESA Europe-wide proposal to mandate anti-lock braking systems (ABS) for motorcycles bigger than 125cc manufactured from 2016 onwards was overwhelmingly approved by the European Parliament by a vote of 643-16. Although the measure is still working its way through the EU legislative process and must still be adopted by individual member nations of the European Union, it is expected to be adopted soon.

A European Union Commission presented the ABS requirement for new framework regulation for motorcycles, and calculates that the proposal would reduce the number of fatal motorcycle accidents by more than 5,000 over a 10-year period.

Although the first anti-lock braking system was installed on a motorcycle in 1988, only 16% of all newly manufactured motorcycles in Europe were equipped with ABS, and by comparison car manufacturers have made ABS standard equipment since 2004 which has contributed to an estimated 49% overall decline in fatal car accidents in the EU. Experts regard anti-lock braking as a huge boost to safety, pointing to a Swedish highway study that showed that 38% of all motorcycle accidents involve personal injury and 48% of all serious and fatal accidents could have been prevented with ABS.

In the U.S., the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has considered requiring ABS on new motorcycles sold in America, and will likely take up the issue in the near future.

INDONESIAN WOMEN BANNED FROM STRADDLING MOTORCYCLESIn an effort to establish Sharia law, Indonesia’s northwestern province Aceh has enacted a controversial new law banning women from sitting on motorcycles with their legs apart. Aiming “to save people’s morals & behaviors,” under the new regulation “women are allowed to sit ‘side-saddle’ because passengers who sit side-saddle rarely fell off while when you see a woman straddle a motorcycle she looks like a man…”

Despite opposition from human rights activist who are calling for a reversal of the Sharia-type law; “We’re going ahead with the ban. There’s no resistance here,” said Dasni Yuzar, secretary of the city administration.

“The government is only preserving morals. Women must not straddle motorbikes because it provokes the male drivers,” declared Aceh Mayor Suaidi Yahya, who proposed the law. However, he also added that women were allowed to straddle motorbikes if they were driving,

as long as they were dressed in a “Muslim way.”

Al Yasa’ Abubakar, a professor at the State Islamic Institute Ar-Raniry in Banda Aceh, explained that no such prohibition exists in Islam. While Yuzar agreed it was “not explicitly” written in the Koran that women should not straddle bikes, he said “by sitting astride, women dishonor themselves. They show their body curves almost transparently. They’re riding with men who are not related by blood or marriage. Their front body part is in contact with the men’s back. This is forbidden in Islam.”

According to Tunggal Prawestri, a women’s activist based in Jakarta, “Almost every bylaw that was based on Sharia law targets the female body as a political battle ground in Aceh. Women become the easiest target, because as soon as women rights activists protest we are deemed anti-Muslim or anti-Sharia.”

Spread across a chain of thousands of islands between Asia and Australia, Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population and Southeast Asia’s biggest economy, a huge market that all motorcycle manufacturers, including Harley-Davidson, dream to dominate one day.

AUSTRALIAN TOP COP VOWS TO BAN BIKIES FROM PUBSDeclaring that outlaw bikies “…are not the type of people who should be running licensed premises,” Chief Commissioner Ken Lay has vowed to ban bikers from pubs and clubs across Victoria. “The legislation is designed to ensure that doesn’t occur,” he told the Herald Sun newspaper of his plan to move “bikies” out of venue ownership, operation and security.

Earlier this year, police swooped on bikies in a series of raids and seized 120 guns after ruling them not fit people to have the weapons under the Firearms Act.

Meanwhile, police are telling licensees not to allow patched-up bikies entry, so some Melbourne strip clubs, bars and nightclubs are refusing entry based on a “dress code standard,” and some have even banned motorcycles from parking outside.

Inspector Paul Ross, of licensing enforcement, said police “advised” licensees “it’s probably better if they don’t allow outlaw motorcycle gang members inside ... wearing colors.”

One operator, who is enforcing the ban, said police asked him and others to sign an agreement that the dress code standard relating to bikies was upheld.

Yearning For Riding Weather.By: Rebel Ron Happy New Year Y’all! Hope all is well with all my fellow Tennesseans & Thunder Roads Magazine readers. Hope you all have a great & safe 2013. With all the holiday things going on with family & friends, not to mention the weather, we may not get to opportunity to ride as much as we would prefer. Sure I have leathers & don’t mind riding in cold weather as my lady friend, Miss Elizabeth, & I rode on the Curahee MC club’s annual Polar Bear Run January 5. But there just were not many bike related events going on this time of the year to write an article about.

So, with a cold one in my hand sitting in my office all warm & comfortable with a few pals we decided to play on the internet to find odd, cool, or weird motorcycle related photos to share with you.

Hope you enjoy looking at these half as much as we did drinking beer & looking for them. Ride safe in 2013!!!! I’ll see you on the road.

“The  Fear of the Lord”Most Christians confuse  “The Fear of the Lord”  with being afraid of God;  the fear of the Lord  is referring to honoring God, respecting God by respecting his Word, His House, and His Ministers. Sin will separate you from God and will cause you to be afraid of God. The first thing Adam did after he sinned was to hide himself from God;  Gen.3:8  “… Adam and Eve hid themselves from the presence of the Lord.”  The modern day religions & denominations have watered down the Word of God so badly that the people no longer have a reverential  “Fear of the Lord.”  These religions & denominations are ordaining people that have no right in God’s pulpits; they allow perverts and child molesters to remain. We have about as much sex going on in the church as on lower Broadway in Nashville . Today’s church members come to church for a “hook-up,” to make a business deal, to catch up on the latest gossip, to show off their designer clothes, cars, and jewelry. Most traditional churches have some families that have been in the church for generations, and they think they run the church, not God; they hire & fire pastors at their

Chaplain’s Cornerwill. We have all seen so many famous ministers, who think that they are rock stars, fall from grace. Christian television is full of Gospel pimps. We have kicked God out of our schools, court houses and federal buildings and look at the mess we are in now. When I was in school the biggest problems were playing hooky, cheating on a test, and chewing gum in class, now our children are being murdered, raped, hooked on drugs, and forced to join gangs. In the Old Testament we read where God told Moses;  Exodus 3:5  “Take off thy shoes, the place where thou stand is holy ground.”  God expects us to honor His House. In  II Sam.6: 1-11  King David sent his hand chosen men to bring the Ark of God home to Israel , they placed it on  “a new cart”  pulled by oxen. The ark started to fall and one of David’s chosen men put his hand on it and“the anger of the Lord was kindled and God smote him there for his error.”  It appears that God unjustly killed one of David’s chosen men who only wanted to stop the Ark from falling. But David made the same mistake that we Christians make today, we do  “what is right in our own eyes.”    After David had prayed about it he realized that God had already given specific instructions on how He (God) wanted the Ark moved;  “only by the Levitical Priesthood and hand carried by two staffs to pick up the Ark.”  God and man have the same problem today, God has given us specific instructions through His Word how, when, where He wants things done! When we do it our way (politically correct) we have the same result, death to our joy, peace, health, and wealth. The difference is that today we live under Grace and they lived under the law.  Grace brings “delayed judgment”, the law was instant “judgment,” but judgment always follows disobedience,  “God is the same yesterday, today, and forever!”    Today’s Christians, churches and government need to get back to  “The Fear of the Lord” -  respecting and honoring the things of God. God said  “Return unto me and I’ll return unto you.”Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up.To be found faithful,Pastor Ron

by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee:

I bought my Heritage Classic in 2003. What a big year that was for motorcycle sales. It was Harley Davidson’s 100th anniversary and everyone was really fired up on buying a motorcycle. I really hadn’t planned on buying a motorcycle that year and hadn’t planned on getting married either but did both. In 2003 I was a single parent who had been raising three small children for over seven years and it occurred to me that I would not be able to meet someone until the kids were out of high school.

Never say Never – a few weeks after I had that thought I met my wife. When we decided to get married we both had all of the toasters and picture frames we could stand so in our wedding invitations we told everyone we were registered at the Harley Dealer. In our wedding presents we received a bucket load of Harley gift certificates. Rather than disappoint our friends we bought our Harley. While we happened to buy a 100th anniversary bike we didn’t buy it to shine in the garage, we bought it to ride and ride it we have. We’re getting close to 120,000 miles ridden.

The bike still runs really good but not like off the showroom floor. This last fall I was thinking about trading it on a new dresser to give the little lady a cushier ride and have some tunes on those long trips. I talked to Harley and they might as well have hit me in the forehead with a handlebar. I have a

ton of chrome and many extras. I’ve probably spent $7000 or more for chrome

and upgrades alone. They offered me $3000 trade in and cried because it was going to take every penny of their profit to

do that. Well heck, I didn’t want to buy a new bike full price again! I was hoping to get half way there with my trade. I looked in the mirror

and saw a little cloud over my head that said “Not So Fast Bandana Brain.”

I thought motorcycles were meant to be ridden but I learned

the hard way that it isn’t true. They are meant to be polished, kept in the garage and traded every two years or 20,000 miles – whichever comes first. That’s how you get 50% of the value out of them when you trade. Of course you go broke in the process but what price freedom! I had it all wrong! I joined the Harley Owners Group and rode like a wild man thinking I was doing what all good Harley owners do. I was getting experience on the road and becoming a safer rider. And after all don’t Harley’s retain their value better than the rest?? Cough!! Cough!!

I’m no spring chicken and will be eligible for full social security in a couple of years. I certainly can’t take on a bunch of debt just to look cool on a poker run. So what are my options??? As I see it I have passed the point of no return. Not only did I marry my wife but I married my Harley. Til death do us part! Since we got married both of my wife’s knees have worn out. No funny comments. She now has two brand new knees! Eureka – she has shown me the light. When the parts on my Harley wear out I’m just going to replace them with something bigger and better. Instead of going new, I’m saving my pennies for transplants. I think around the 150,000 mile mark will be about right. More horsepower, more torque, another transmission with helical gears, balance the engine so the ride is smoother and cut me loose.

That rush hour traffic I talked about last month will have to make a real quick decision whether it was an F-18 or Bulldog when that thunderous blur passes them on the highway. I feel like an astronaut who has escaped the dealer’s gravity and am blasting off on an adventure to the outer reaches of the biker solar system. Cool!!! No more payments, no interest, no factory design flaws – just a bullet proof bike and miles to go before I sleep.

Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those can’t. Bulldog

On November 1, 2012, Boswell’s Harley-Davidson celebrated its 63rd Anniversary of being a Harley dealer. They invited their H.O.G. members, including the Nashville H.O.G.’s, from the former Bost Harley, to join the staff in the celebration. It all started, in 1948, when Lannie Boswell and his brother Otis opened a gas station in their hometown of Henderson, KY. A year later, they signed a contract to become Boswell’s Harley-Davidson and moved to a new building in Henderson. Lannie’s business was interrupted by a tour of duty in the Army during 1950-52, including a year in Germany. After returning to Henderson, the future Mrs. Boswell rode in to the dealership for a service on her bike. After a slow start (Mr. B stood up the future Mrs. B on their first date to go to a bike race), the two apparently hit it off and married in August of 1953. Quite a tribute to Mrs. B for putting up with Lannie for about 60 years! The brothers took different routes with Otis moving to open a dealership in Owensboro, in 1955 and later, in 1959, Lannie bought out Eddie Conley’s dealership in Evansville. In 1965, the Bowell’s, with 4 kids, packed up to open Boswell’s Harley-Davidson, on Lafayette Street, in Nashville, before moving to the Fesslers Lane location, in 1971. The rest, as they say is history, with new locations opening in Rivergate, Cookeville, and Second Avenue.Over the years, there have been some really tough times for Harley dealerships, especially during the AMF years. Lots of dealers came and went, but the Boswells were able to maintain their customer base. Lannie even established the Music City Riders club, years before Harley established its H.O.G. program. Bubba has taken over management of the operation, with much help from wife, Betsy, and son, Kyle. Bubba’s sisters moved on to other endeavors, while Mr. B. continues to run Boswell’s Golf Cars.Mr. B, or Gabby to his friends, is a really nice guy and one of my favorite people. He still rides his Harley trike. Thanks to Betsy Boswell for interviewing Mr. B. to pull together the above dates. Best of Luck to the Boswell’s as they start their 64th year!Ride Safe and Have Fun!! A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in theirbed. She puts on her robe and goes down stairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front him. He appears deep in thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as hewipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of coffee.“What’s the matter, dear?” she whispers as she steps into the room. “Why are you down here at this time of night?”The husband looks up, “Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating, and you were only 17?” he asks solemnly. The wife is touched thinking her husband is so caring and sensitive. “Yes,I do,” she replies. The husband pauses. The words are not coming easily. “Do you remember when you father caught us in the back seat of my car?”“Yes, I remember,” says the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.The husband continues...”Do you remember when he shoved a shotgun in my face and said, “Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jailfor 20 years”.“I remember that too”, she replies softly. He wipes another tear from his cheek and says... “I would have gotten out today!”

2008 Street Glide~Capone themeowner Paulie Caparelli

by Doug Mitchel

The names Harley-Davidson and Al Capone are fairly significant although there were no known ties between the two when Mr. Capone was making a name for himself in the ‘20s. He was actually born 4 years prior to Harley-Davidson started building motorcycles and to say the least they traveled in different circles. History shows us that one became a famous brand while the other is deeply rooted in infamy.

When Paulie Caparelli approached John Dodson at Johnny Legend Customs about building a new ride he went in with plans for an all-black ensemble. After discussions combining their creativity both agreed that some graphics would add some dash to the scheme. More exchanges of ideas were achieved before selecting the Al Capone theme for use. With the finish and graphics agreed to they set out to assemble the running gear and related hardware.

Starting with a 2008 Street Glide the cycle was torn down and fresh parts were ordered to achieve a truly custom build. The sheet metal was sent to Psychotic Air in Batavia so Mark Daniels could work his magic given only the name Al Capone for inspiration. The rest was at his disposal. The resulting finish is high in detail and the Sherwin Williams gloss black paint gleams in its flawless execution. A portrait of Sr. Capone graces one side of the tank and additional

artwork in the same vein can be found all around the finished craft. While Psychotic Air was applying the paint the rest of the build moved ahead.

The motor retained its factory 96” displacement but was given a host of upgrades to enhance performance. Taking oxygen into the fuel injection system is achieved via the Performance Machine air cleaner and spent fumes are carried by a Klock Werks Reverse Flow exhaust. The rotating machine gun exhaust tips are items found in the Tail Gunner product line and make an appropriate addition to the gangster theme. I suppose a Thompson sub-machinegun may have been more appropriate but wouldn’t rotate in time with the RPM of the motor.

Today’s modern baggers typically roll on larger wheels and this build is no exception. A 23” hoop is teamed with an 18” at the rear and both hail from S.M.T. Plans to change the front wheel to a 26” unit

are in the works. Before Psychotic air got a chance to add the paint the front fairing had to be modified to allow for the added rake in the front forks. If not altered the headlight would point to the stars and not to the road ahead. Moving the assembly 2” forward provided the clearance needed for proper fitment and aiming of the beam. The saddle is from LePera and has been reupholstered in stingray and ostrich by Ed’s Auto Trim in Villa Park. Form and function in one great looking seat.

When the painted parts returned to JLC the assembly could be completed. Joining the freshly finished bits were a set of floor boards from Chicago Bagger, foot controls by Battistini and a crash bar from Sinister Industries.

3 months were needed to create and finish this custom bagger but the owner is pleased with the results and I’m sure Al Capone would be as well. Probably not enough space to bootleg liquor but beyond that a terrific build from Johnny Legend Customs and Psychotic Air.

I wanted to share with you a young man I met whom I respect through and through. I met Koby Blount through friends who had their bike painted. After meeting Koby I now know what everyone sees in this man. He’s not only an artist but a father and husband, and seems to have it all together. He also has his own business called KCL Cre-ations. I have seen some of his work and it’s amazing not only the art and the air brush-ing he has done, but how he takes his work seriously. In meeting Koby I asked if he would mind if I did a story on him and he was more than willing to share his life with me. While interviewing Koby I asked a lot of questions including what his desires were in life. So here goes with a little on what Koby did to get where he is now.

Koby started out being an

Architectural Drafter; in 2003 he worked for Extreme Motorsports. In 2005 he started teaching himself body-work and painting, after his own bike fell over which caused a lot of damage. Feb. 2006 he took a course at West Port Customs, taught by Mikie Harris. This course truly sparked his interest in airbrushing. He spent the next 9 months perfecting this art. Nov. 2006 he drove to Salt Lake City, UT to attend a class called Aset Iwata, also known for “The Ultimate Air Affair”. The course was taught by the top 16 of the nation’s best Airbrush Artists. Jan. 2007 was Koby’s 1st custom paint job on a 1998 Harley Soft Tail. The owner of this bike was so pleased. Seeing the pleasure from this customers face only encouraged Koby to be more proficient in the art of air brushing. In the summer of 2007 he worked along with Tim Welke for the next 2-3 years, learning quit a lot. The summer of 2009 Koby worked with Charles Crews who helped Koby learn perfection of airbrushing. Koby truly admires

both of these men in his life and wanted to make sure to

mention them and thank them for all they did in teaching him what they knew. The year 2009 was also a big deciding factor as Koby got laid off from his job. After talking with his wife, they both agreed to make his hobby and love into a full time job. It was then that he started his business KCL Creations. Times were hard but they both hung in there. In 2011 Koby joined Van Yarnell in a business called Flex-A-dent. He now custom paints a lot of bikes for Chariots of Fire. Koby Blount is a young man who has made his dreams come true. Yet he doesn’t forget who has been there for him either. He would like to thank everyone for their sup-port. He’s a people person with a great sense of life and has a great attitude. So if your curious check him out on his website www.kclcreations.com or call 314-775-9307 for an appt. I also wanted to take the time to thank Tabatha, my daughter, for taking her time to enhance the appearance of these bikes, great job. This was Tabatha’s 1st time model-ing and I believe she did a great job. Also thank you Carlina for your assistance in all that you did in making this day a great outcome.

Hollister, CA- Corbin’ design wizards engineered the perfect saddle for Honda’s do-it-all 250L. This new Dual Sport saddle combines the functionality of an off-road seat with the comfort of ergonomic design. It’s perfect for dirt, trail and street with Corbin’s cool eye appealing styling. Corbin used their high-density Comfort Cell foam which retains resiliency and doesn’t crush down like the stock foam so they could build a lower seating platform. This provides better ground reach and a balanced riding position. For the off-road enthusiast, Corbin left enough nose to allow riders to slide up the tank and get through the corners faster. Now let’s say you’re on a Dual Sport ride and you’ve just finished a bout with a nasty stretch of trail... you have some paved miles ahead to catch your breath. Slide towards the rear of the seat and you’ll find a wider sculpted bucket shape. This area of the seat gives you more square inches of body contact and the firm support you need for amazing comfort. By the time you hit the next leg of rough stuff you’ll be well rested and ready for more. As you’re seated, the bones in your posterior that take most of your body weight are roughly seven inches apart. Strangely enough, this is true for most adults. The stock seat at its widest point is

about 6.5”. This actually makes the foam of the stock seat crush in and applies pressure to the center of your body. The Corbin model is much wider (11 inches) which supports your body weight over a greater area and equalizes pressure. Corbin covers it with only the highest grade of materials for durability and long life. To add a custom touch, the model here is shown with Carbon-Fiber seating, Asphalt sides and a coordinating red welt. The traditional Corbin tag has been replaced with a tasteful Corbin logo stitched right into the side panel. Installation is simple with a tongue in the front and two bolts into the saddle from the sides just like stock. (MSRP: $379.00

Don’t forget about Corbin’s 4th Annual Rider Appreciation Day on July 5-6th…See you there!
