Tips for successfully transferring your Maricopa Community College credits to a University
Things you need to know about transfer.
I want to transfer. What do I need to do?
If you know that you will transfer to a university, but you do not
know what your major will be, it’s best to begin with the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC). AGEC is a 35-semester-credit general education program of study. Completion of the AGEC guarantees you will be admitted to any of the Arizona state public universities. Meet with an academic advisor to determine which AGEC is appropriate for your degree or program.
Why should I earn an Associate’s degree?
I want to transfer. What do I need to do? Why should I earn an Associate’s degree?
Atransfer Associate’s degree is designed to maximize your
credits and prepare you for your university major. Upon completion of an Associate, you will enter the university as a junior. Additional advantages for completing an Associate’s degree are: increased income, knowledge, and skills; help to qualify for a job or promotion and tuition discounts and scholarships at Maricopa partner universities.
It’s never too early to begin planning for a smooth transfer
to a university. The longer you wait to make a decision, the more you risk delaying degree completion or loss of credit. Here are some additional tips:• Declare your intent to transfer when
you meet with an advisor.• Select a major as early as possible,
defi nitely by the time you complete 24 credits.• Select courses that are transferable to
your university.• Complete Math, English, and Lab
Science course requirements early.• Take summer courses.• Earn at least 24 credits in your fi rst year.

It is recommended that you transfer after completing an Associate’s degree or when you and your advisor determine that
you are fully prepared to transfer to the university. Early in your last semester, follow these steps:
When do I transfer?
1. Meet with an Academic Advisor to ensure your degree requirements are met.
2. Request the AGEC certification on your transcript to receive all the benefits.
3.Check the university admission requirements. Each university has its own requirements.
4. Complete your university application and pay the application fee.
5. Submit official transcripts from EVERY college/university you have attended. If you have attended more than one Maricopa Community College, you can request all official transcripts online using my.maricopa.edu.
