Introducing your new pastor
Pastor Hojin Shin with wife Youngkwang Lee, son Yihoon Shin and daughter Yigyoung Shin
I am so blessed to introduce through this article, your next pastor, the Rev. Hojin Shin and his family. You can call his wife, Gloria and his daughter Esther. He and his wife, Gloria have a son, Yihoon who is in 10th grade, and a daughter, Esther who is in 4th grade. Pastor Hojin has a Bachelor of Theology degree from the Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea where he has also completed his Master of Theology degree. He is presently in progress with his Doctor of Ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC. Pastor Hojin is currently the pastor of Handol Korean Methodist Church in Sandusky, Ohio.
The Korean word for pastor is Moksanim. It is an office of high regard and respect. Korean Pastors are very gifted, intelligent, prayerful and truly committed to Jesus Christ. I believe this is God’s plan for Emmetsburg First UMC. Continue to pray for our church, Pastor Hojin and his family as well as their present congregation in Ohio as they go through this transition. I pray that you will accept his leadership the way you accepted my leadership. I pray that you will also receive them with love, grace and joy. Learn to always support and love your pastor and his family because the Good Lord blesses those who bless and love His servants. In 1 Timothy 5:17, It commands us to doubly honor those who minister to us. "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially they who labor in the word and doctrine.” God bless us all! Thank you so much for everything that you have done for us and for the Kingdom of God since we came here in 2011. God is glorified and He will continue to be glorified as you allow Pastor Hojin and His family to be your partners in Kingdom building here in this community. (Pastor Louie)

The Last Call
In the Philippines, one of the ways to travel is by boat. The boat leaves the dock on
time for its destination. But before it leaves the dock, a voice booms over the PA
System as a last call to the entire boat to tell all families and loved ones of the
passengers to say their last good-byes and disembark. I rode those boats so many
times even as a student (I was studying Dentistry on another island in the Central
part of our country; a city called Cebu) and I saw various good-byes: between
married couples, college kids and their parents, sons and daughters on their early
journeys of landing jobs, grandparents saying good-bye to their families who came
for vacation. Most of them were tearful, some were happy in the hopes of seeing
each other again as the loved one would follow in the journey--because they had to
finish up some business before reuniting with the one who left first.
I am not bidding good-bye on this last call but for the most part I would like to say
THANKS. THANK YOU, EMMETSBURG FAMILY, FOR ALL THE LOVE AND
SUPPORT YOU GAVE ME AND LOUIE, FOR ACCEPTING US FOR WHO WE ARE,
FOR BEING THERE DURING THE HARD AND TRYING TIMES, FOR BEING SO
GENEROUS IN EVERY WAY, FOR THE ABUNDANCE OF HUGS AND SMILES,
CHRISTMAS AND BIRTHDAY GIFTS, CARDS, LETTERS OF ENCOURAGEMENT,
FOR MAKING US A PART OF ALL YOUR FAMILY MILESTONES, FOR ALLOWING
US TO SHARE JESUS WITH YOU AND MOST OF ALL, FOR STEPPING UP AND
PASSING ON THE LOVE OF JESUS FOR HIS PEOPLE AND IS CHURCH!!! All these
words are not enough to tell you how much we love each and every one of you!
The good Lord has planted and He will reap an abundant harvest of lives to be
used for the advancement of His kingdom!!!
Please love Rev. Hojin Shin and his family more than you loved us. The good Lord
has called him to serve in Emmetsburg. He is a true servant of the Lord and he will
lead you. Please give him your trust and respect. Do not abuse his kindness.
Welcome him with the love and warmth that Emmetsburg First United Methodist is
known for!!!
On this last call I am not bidding you good-bye because I know we will see each
other again. It’s not the end of everything between us!
God bless you!!!
All my love,
Beng

registrations, leading the program, and a skit during
the afternoon. Cathy Wyatt of Ruthven was the
speaker, informing us about her work as a Court
Appointed Advocate for children.

national and local expenses. We will collect water-
proof mittens for Upper Des Moines at the
November meeting to be held at the West Bend
Methodist Church.
God’s Harvest Auction & Oneida Square Project Work Together!
This year, I asked for funds for our sister church, Cornerstone Community Church, through the Endowment Committee. In the
past, we have helped Cornerstone with cash and volunteers through our mission trip. This year, we are going to do something
different. The money for Cornerstone will go to purchase items made at the Oneida Square Project which is housed and operat-
ed by Cornerstone This project employs people that find it hard to obtain or hold a job. They not only get a job, but a sense of
accomplishment for the art that they produce with the mosaic tile items. After we have purchased the items, they will be brought
back to Iowa and sold at our auction in November. This gives both Cornerstone and Emmetsburg UMC a chance to benefit from
the sale of these items.
If you would like to donate to this cause, either as your Harvest Auction donation or just a general donations,
please contact Dave Ballman at 852-3041 or Marsha at the church office before July 1.
