A Letter
From Lana
Hello, Brothers and Sisters of
Emmetsburg! I have missed
you! It is hard to believe it has
been five years since I was the
Youth Director and
Secretary. You have had
fantastic leadership between
Pastor Louie and Pastor Hojin,
they are each so talented and I
appreciate their ministry. I also
appreciate each of your
participation in that
ministry. As I move into the
Pastoral role much is unknown
but many of us know and love
one another. I count that as a
blessing and I look forward to
meeting those I have not had
the privilege of meeting yet.
As I prayed about this transition
God lead me to Ecclesiastes
3:11 (NLT):
This verse follows the familiar
verse,
“For everything there is a
season...A time to plant and
a time to harvest...A time to
cry and a time to laugh...A
time to be quiet and a time
to speak…
What do people really get for all
their hard work? I have seen
the burden God has placed on
us all. Yet God has made
everything beautiful for its own
time. He has planted eternity
in the human heart, but even
so, people cannot see the
whole scope of God’s work from
beginning to end.”
As I reflected upon this verse I
thought of the many seasons
each of us face during this
transition. As you said “see you
later” to Pastor Hojin and his
family many of you wept, as I
did the same with the people of
Graettinger and Terril. Some of
you are going through personal
stuff, medical struggles, or
family difficulties. Some of you
are having all sorts of
adventures because a year of
your life was spent at home
during a pandemic. Some of
our beloved long-time members
have moved or are moving to be
closer to family and you feel the
loss of their closeness. While
others grieve ones who have
gone on to glory.
A reality of life is that we flow
between different seasons
throughout life but God has
planted eternity in our
heart. That’s the hope and the
promise we hold onto no matter
what. We may not see the whole
picture yet, all of the pieces may
not seem to fit together but the
promise that God is with us and
God is making all things
beautiful is a truth we can hold
on to. May you know God’s love
is real for you and may that love
transform your heart!
I am blessed to be returning to
Emmetsburg First United
Methodist Church and look
forward to partnering in ministry
with you!
Blessings,
Pastor Lana

The Walk to Emmaus is an experience
of Christian spiritual renewal.
Emmaus is open to members of any Christian denomination
• who have a desire to strengthen their spiritual lives
• who may have unanswered questions about their faith
• who understand that being a Christian involves responsibility
• who are willing to dedicate their everyday lives to God
The purpose of Emmaus is to
develop leaders for the church.
Emmaus will inspire, challenge,
and equip participants for
Christian action in their homes,
churches, and places of
work. Emmaus lifts up a way for
our grace-filled lives to be lived
and shared with others.
