Volume 21 January 19, 2020 Issue 3
To make Disciples for Christ Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit with Ministry and love to
others, teaching the Holy Scriptures, preaching the gospel, loving and serving the Lord.
Join us in reading the entire Bible this year!
• On our website at www.glennvilleumc.com/connect/2020-five-day-bible-plan
• This Sunday morning in your Sunday bulletin or at the devotion table.
• Weekly readings published in The Vessel.
Join us for our 6-week sermon series, “Long Story Short!”
We will invite you to renew your reading of scripture; equip you with a better understanding of how the
individual bits of the Bible fit together into a seamless whole; and inspire you to see your place in the unfolding
drama of the Bible.
With Joy in Christ,
Bro. Jim
This year, our church will be reading the entire Bible through with the Five Day Reading plan
created by Mark Roberts, developed by Steven Hunt. With just 5 days of readings per week
and a chronological lay-out, this plan will help us achieve our goal even in our busiest seasons.
You can find the plan:
We all know the Bible is important. But, let’s be honest, it can be hard to understand. It’s a huge book (and
it’s really 66 books!). It comes from a different time. And, honestly, it can be really hard to understand.
Is it a list of rules? Is it relevant to us? Do the pieces fit together? In this
series, we will look at the big picture to see the overarching story, the single
drama of scripture in 6 movements: Creation, Fall, Israel, Jesus, Church,
& New Creation.

The American Red Cross Blood Drive team is inviting churches to sponsor a blood drive once a
year. This includes assisting in set up at 1st Baptist Church; providing refreshments; and arranging for 2-3 volunteers to work the blood drive. If you, your
Sunday School class/small group, or a group of your friends feel called to lead this on behalf of our
church, please contact the church office for more details.
Choir Practice Resumes — Wednesdays @ 7:15 pm
We will resume choir practice, beginning on Wednesday,
January 29 @ 7:15 pm. We will be preparing for the
Easter season and Easter Sunday.
Please be in prayer about joining us!!
There’s lots of fun and fellowship as we sing God’s
praises!!
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom,
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and
hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your
hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16
God Bless!!

I WILL TRUST HIM
Read 1 Samuel 7 : 12
January is named for the Roman god Janus. It
had two heads: one head looked back toward
yesterday and the other one looked forward
toward tomorrow.
We look back and see that we had God’s
presence in our perils, His blessings in our
burdens, His compensation in our clouds, and His
strength in our struggles.
We look forward and we see we have His
promises for our perplexities. In days of sickness
we’ll have His solace, in days of temptation His
triumph, and in days of want His wealth.
“Hitherto has the Lord helped us.” Henceforth
I will trust Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, hitherto Thou hast
supported us and supplied our needs. We
beseech Thee to uphold us still. Make us
trustful and triumphant, giving us a sense of
Thy presence that always provides, protects and
preserves: in Christ’s name. Amen.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
Psalm 133 : 1

This is the way we ought to live, in harmony with other believers without any strife among us.
