Growing In the Word
LIFT UP THE WORD. In Hosea 4:6 God made an observation through His prophet; “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” Preceding this verse, God had pointed out how lying, murder, stealing, committing adultery, wild living and bloodshed (violence, I presume) had become the norm in the land. The reason? There was no faithfulness or steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land (Hosea 4:1, 2). He repeated the “lack of knowledge” idea in 4:6. Here’s a historically verifiable truth: when a nation, a people, a culture lets loose of the Word of God as its foundation for morality, law, and life the downward spiral is sure, fast, violent, and depraved. That’s why the church must ever be vigilant in its commitment to the Word of God. If the church let’s go of it, neglects it, or changes it - it’s all over. Nobody else on this planet except God’s people are going to lift up the Word, honor the Word, preach and teach the Word, and attempt to live out the Word as we follow the Living Word! It’s our mandate. If you go back to Hosea 4:6 you will see that God held the religious leaders responsible for misguiding the people through their own example of neglect of God’s Word. “All Scripture”, we’re told by Paul, “is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man (or woman) of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, ESV).
LEARN THE WORD. With this being said, and in agreement of the importance of being well -grounded in
the Bible, I introduce to you the new teacher training program here at Fairway Christian Church. The Elders
and Ministry staff agree to the need for providing a better process to train our entire church, but especially our
teachers and future leaders with a “base-line” of Bible knowledge, a clear understanding of one’s spiritual gifts
of service, and a strong foundation of basic church theology and doctrine. We are excited to announce a three-
tiered program open to anyone desiring this knowledge, but required for all who desire to teach in any capacity
at Fairway – including classes, small groups, break-out groups, and serving as deacon or elder.
TEACH THE WORD. For teacher and/or leader qualification at Fairway Christian Church you will be
required to complete the Teacher Training Pathway consisting of the following:
Basic Level – A 26 week Basic Bible Overview course with workbook and discussion. Successful course
completion with certification will only be required for all prospective teachers.
Servant Level – This is the P.L.A.C.E. program for spiritual gift discovery we already have in place.
Upon completion the teacher candidate will receive a personal coaching session.
Leadership Level – Requires enrollment and successful completion of the 8 self-paced lessons of the
Christian Restoration Association’s Bible Institute course: Basic Theology. This will include weekly
discussion led by a group leader from Fairway Christian Church ministry staff.
Upon successful completion of the 3-tiered Teacher Training Pathway
an exit interview will finalize the qualification process. As you can see,
we want all our members to grow in the Word. We hope this program will
provide an intentional pathway to help make that happen. For those
currently teaching please call the church office to find out about and sign
up for the Fast Track implementation.

The meeting was called to order by Harry Harris at 9:00 am on January 18, 2021. In attendance were Harry Harris; John Hall; Rich Cammeron; Charlie Covey; Butch Gastfield; Ken Zarse and Norm Liskey.
John Hall opened the meeting with Titus 1:5-9 and then led the group in prayer.
Deacons Report: Rich stated that he was having trouble keeping people to do the work of the church with so many Deacons having personal problems due to health issues. The Elders will hold a special meeting on Monday, January 25 to interview Deacon candidates. Harry will contact the candidates to set up the interviews.
Financial Report: Norm presented the balance sheet and several questions were raised regarding donations.
We now have about 350 people attending per week. The question was raised, what are we or should we be doing to first, add additional people to church and second, what are we doing as a church to meet the spiritual needs of those who do not attend in person but worship online.
Harry led the group in a discussion on the impact of Covid-19 in the church and the difficulties it is presenting. Changes have been made in the sound booth to make it more Covid compliant.
Harry asked about people to work the doors, serve and clean the sanctuary after the first service. We will continue to do our best .
The meeting with Intentional Churches was discussed and Ken Zarse made a motion to postpone our consulting session, John Hall seconded it and the motion was approved.
The letter being sent to Johnson University was discussed at great length. After much discussion, a motion was made to send the letter to Johnson University.
We then discussed the letter being sent to the Highway Department concerning the road changes in front of our building on CR 466. A motion was made to send the letter to Sumter County. Harry will write the letter. Information will be sent out in the February newsletter to the congregation concerning the highway changes and how they will impact driving to and from our church.
Funding suggestions of $42,000 from the Missions Committee was included in the new budget.
Discussion was held regarding the training needed for all potential Bible Study leaders. We will follow the following outline:
Basic Bible course, which will last 26 weeks.
Better utilization of our PLACE program.
Leadership level CRA Doctrine of Grace, which is a 24-week class.
A motion was made to adopt this procedure for future training. All of this will be implemented by September 2022. However, Butch can expedite it at any point, should we have someone desiring to teach sooner and it is agreed to by Butch.
The meeting was closed in prayer by Norm.
Respectfully submitted by Charlie Covey.
Wednesday Night Bible Study
Wednesday Feb. 3rd I will be on vacation, but Butch will be teaching that night.
On Wednesday the 10th we will start a new study on Matthew 24. We will discuss this chapter in its entirety. If you are not familiar with Matthew 24 it is where Jesus talks about the destruction of Jerusalem and His 2nd Coming. Some people have confused Jesus’ discussion by attributing what He said about Jerusalem’s destruction in 70 AD for His 2nd coming. Looking forward to see you on the 10th as we rightly divide the Word of God. Bring your Bible, pen and face mask! -Gary Serago

Letter from Sumter County:
Sumter County intends to modify the corridor to improve safety
and traffic flow by adding and extending turn lanes at the C 466
and Morse Boulevard intersection. Modifications to the west-
bound approach of C 466 will alter the existing full access at the
shared driveway on C 466. A second westbound left-turn lane
will be constructed at the intersection to accommodate a large
number of westbound left turns. Based on the design speed of
45 mph, the dual westbound left-turn lanes had to be designed
to a minimum of 710 feet to accommodate the design queue
and deceleration length. By adding and extending the left turn
lanes, the existing full access median opening will be
eliminated. After construction, the joint driveway on C 466 will
be a right-in/right-out driveway. Sumter County appreciates your
support of the improvements, and we look forward to providing a
successful project completion. Please let me know if you or your
team have any questions about the improvements.
Anticipated construction schedule:
· Advertise the project (between Nov 2020 and Jan 2021)
· Construction begins (between June 2021 and Oct 2021)
Summary of proposed improvements at C 466 and Morse
Boulevard
Conversion of all of the left-turn traffic signal phases at the intersection to protected only
°This means a driver will only be able to turn left during a left-turn green arrow phase
Implementing an overlap phase for the northbound right-turn movement
°This means a driver turning right from the northbound right-turn lane will have a protected right-turn green arrow phase during the westbound left-turn phase
Extension of the eastbound left-turn lane to 535 feet
Constructing a second westbound left-turn lane and extending the left-turn lanes to a length of 710 feet
°Conversion of the Church’s shared driveway on CR 466 to a right-in/right-out to allow for the extension of the westbound left-turn lanes
Construction of a 360-foot westbound right-turn lane
Repaving of C 466 beginning approximately 800 feet west of the intersection and ending approximately 350 feet east of the shared driveway connection
Repaint traffic signal mast arms
Install new traffic signals heads
I will keep you updated as the project progresses. Thank you
again for your time.
Sincerely,
Steven Cohoon

Hello Everyone From
The Deacons Corner!
"Serving Our Church”
How many volunteers does it
take to run our church? We
don’t know, because we don’t have enough. As simple
as this may sound, it’s true.
Each one of us has a unique gift that can service our
church in different ways. Some of our spiritual gifts
are obvious, but others can be difficult to identify. You
can begin serving our church through volunteering
even before you know your exact gifts as the
experience will provide insight into where you work
best, which in turn will help you identify your gifts.
“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;
and there are varieties of service, but the same
Lord” (1 Corinthians 12:4–5). So don't be afraid to
simply start volunteering; there is a place for you. As
you serve, trust that God will equip you, guide you, and
give you joy for the work.
We continue to need greeters, ushers, assistance
preparing the sanctuary for worship services,
distributing bulletins, helping to ensuring social
distancing is observed, with building lock up and other
physical needs of our church.
If you feel the need for a deeper connection with our
church and can volunteer in any way please call Bernie
Gattozzi or Tom Ross.
Any questions about volunteering contact Richard
Cammeron or the church office at (352) 259-9305.
FCC Ministry Re-Start Guidelines
In order to safely re-open the church and allow
meetings and events to take place, the Elders have
constructed guidelines that must be followed by ALL.
The first step is to submit your re-start plan to the
Elders for approval. Once approved you can
coordinate with Leigh Ann in the office to get your event
scheduled. (Fill out an Event form.)
Re-Start Guidelines and Safety Plan Guidance forms
can be picked up in the front office or send an email to
[email protected] and we can email a
copy to you.
Fairway Christian Church Choir Resumes!
It’s been a long time! The Elders have given us the
all-clear to resume choir rehearsals, yet in a little safer
format. Choir will resume Wednesday, January 27 at
4pm in the Worship Center.
We will practice social distancing by rehearsing in the
worship center and by sitting spaced apart. We will
resume work on the Easter Musical we started last year,
“Who Will Call Him King of Kings.” Performance of the
Easter Musical will be March 27 and 28, Palm Sunday
Weekend.
We will also resume leading worship and doing special
music in the Sunday 10:30 am services on January 31.
We will meet by 10:10 each Sunday to run over the
service music.
Please encourage others who may not have sung with us
before to join us.
Looking forward to seeing all of you again! Michael

ISRAEL TRIP UPDATE
Greetings and Blessings in this new year which God has given us. I think we’re all confident that the vaccine becoming available will enable a number of things such as travel, including to that Israel trip we’ve had planned for nearly 2 years! FYI, Israel leads the world in getting the vaccine administered, and they’ll be more than ready for us.
And for this trip, we now have dates (after rescheduling twice), and they are as follows: Departing for Jordan and Israel: Leave Orlando Airport* October 10th Departing for Israel only: Leave Orlando Airport October 14th Depart Tel Aviv and arrive at Orlando October 24th. *(Actually, we depart and arrive back at the Fairway parking lot.) We have a good number of Fairwayers still registered for this trip - more for Jordan + Israel than for Israel alone. This is recommended, for all I’ve ever talked to about their Jordan trip, offered on most of our Israel tours, have loved it. You see sites including world-famous Petra and Mount Nebo, where you get a spectacular view of the entire Holy Land just as Moses did, before he died. New brochures with the new dates and cost (likely less than in 2020, I’m told) and registration information will be available in the church office soon. I’ll plan on having an informational meeting in April or May. If you want information or have questions between now and then, please call or email me or deputed leader Bill Eaton. God bless you and keep you. Shalom! John
