Community Information

Message to the Residents of The Preserve at Jordan Lake

At the time The Preserve Perspective was sent to the printers, it was not known whether or not Governor Cooper was going to extend his stay-at-home order (Executive Order #121). Therefore, the fitness center, clubhouse, and other facilities (tennis courts, basketball court, and playground) will continue to be closed until further notice. We will reopen the facilities after being advised by the Governor that it is safe to do so.

Regarding the opening of the pool on May 9: We hope that the pool will open on May 9 as scheduled. However, Chatham County has to inspect the pool. We do not know the timetable for this, nor do we know if the stay-at-home order will be extended.

Residents will be notified via an Eblast or on Nextdoor once the opening date is determined for the amenities. Thank you for your patience as we deal with this unique situation!

If you have any additional concerns, please contact Trish Cates, Community Manager, Elite Management at 919-233-7660 x257. ~The Board of Directors of The Preserve at Jordan Lake Community Association

Kat Thompson—The Preserve’s New Community Service Administrator

Kat Thompson is The Preserve’s new community service administrator. Please put Kat’s name and information ([email protected] or (919) 233-7660 extension 250) on page 4 of your 2020 directory.

Please contact Kat regarding clubhouse reservations, new or replacement key cards, and new owner requests. In addition, if you would like to be placed on The Preserve’s email blast list, please email Kat with your name, address, and email address. Put “Add to The Preserve’s email blast list” in the subject line.

Volunteers for Nominating Committee

Although the election for members of the Board of Directors will not take place until the 2020 Annual Meeting, it is time to form a nominating committee. The nominating committee will consist of Chairperson Don Ferranti and three additional homeowners in good standing. The purpose of the committee is to present a list of those homeowners who are willing to serve on the 2021 Board of Directors.

Efforts will be taken to nominate candidates representing the diversity of the neighborhood. In addition, nominations will be permitted from the floor at the general meeting.

If you are interested in serving on the nominating committee, please contact Don Ferranti at [email protected] no later than May 15, 2020.

Volunteers Needed!

There are many opportunities to volunteer to help in the neighborhood. Here is a list of committees/activities/clubs

that need volunteers:

Amenities: A chairperson is needed for the Amenities Committee, and volunteers are needed to serve on the committee. The Amenities chairperson oversees the POA Clubhouse, the fitness center, the pool, the tennis courts, the basketball court, the playground, and the playing field. If you would like to chair this committee, chair a specific part of this committee, or would like to be a member of the committee, please contact James Brown at [email protected].

Communications: The Communications Committee is responsible for organizing and disseminating information about The Preserve to all of the residents. This includes The Preserve Perspective, The Preserve Directory, and information posted on NextDoor. Contact Beth Cornwall, [email protected], if you would like to chair or be on this committee.

Grounds: A chairperson is needed for the Grounds Committee, and more volunteers are needed for this committee. The Ground’s chairperson oversees all of the grounds, lighting, signage, etc., of The Preserve and works with committee members to carry out current landscape plans. If you are interested in chairing this committee, please contact James Brown at [email protected].

Thanks for Volunteering!

Thanks to Bob Dowen for agreeing to deliver The Preserve Perspective to residents of Davis Love Drive, New Rhododendron, Night Heron, Kingwood Lane, and Golfers Ridge. And thanks to Marty Hunicutt for his many years of delivering The Preserve Perspective to residents of The Preserve Trail.

Volunteers are also needed as substitutes when the assigned person is not available to deliver the newsletters. If you would like to be a substitute, please contact Bob Bentley at [email protected].

Important Notice!

Please check with the organizers/hosts of any activities or events you may want to attend to see if these activities/events have been postponed or canceled. The email or website is included in the notice. Thank you.

Welcome to the Neighborhood!

Due to the social distancing requirements, new residents are not being welcomed with a visit from a block captain at this time. Visits will resume in the future. If you would like digital copies of the welcome letter, activities list, directory information sheet, and a list of FAQ’s about The Preserve, please email Beth Cornwall at [email protected].

If you are new to The Preserve, please contact Julia Hobbie-Low at [email protected] to be put on the list to be welcomed after social distancing requirements have expired.

A Message from Social Committee Chair, Palina Frazier

Hello to my Preserve Neighbors!

The corona virus has had a big impact on the social activities planned and budgeted for this spring. With all of us suffering from “cabin fever,” I’ve had a number of suggestions from neighbors expressing the desire to have a big neighborhood social event once the “dark clouds” have dispersed.

I had budgeted for a big fall festival community event with food, games, and music which might be the proper event and time of year to satisfy this request (given the lead time needed to plan/book this type of activity). I will be discussing with the Board how to reallocate the funds from cancelled events to best address this event.

Let me know if you would be interested in helping plan, organize, or volunteer a post-virus neighborhood activity. Once it is safe to come out and play again, I will be there, with your help of course, to get it together.

So stay safe, stay healthy, and looking forward to seeing you all soon!

In May, The Preserve Book Club will be discussing Educated by Tara Westover: Memoir, 352 Pages.

New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Boston Globe Bestseller

Named one of the ten best books of the year by The New York Times Book Review

Finalist for several book awards.

An unforgettable memoir about a young girl who, kept out of school, leaves her survivalist family and

goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University.

Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent.

When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home.

“Westover has somehow managed not only to capture her unsurpassably exceptional upbringing, but to make her current situation seem not so exceptional at all, and resonant formany others.”—The New York Times Book Review

First and Third Tuesdays at 7:00 PM

Meeting in May via Zoom

We invite you to believe. In this time of uncertainty, feeling hopeless, and fear, we want to search for who and what we can trust. Approximately three thousand years ago a King called Jehoshaphat of Judah found his kingdom to be under attack from two overwhelming armies, Moabites and Ammonites. He knew he had no power to face this vast army. His first reaction was to bring his people together in front of the Temple and pray;: “ If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgement, or plague or famine,

we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.” “For we have no power to face this army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2nd Chronicles 20: 9,12).

We believe God has not changed and will rescue his people. So, in this time of uncertainty, and fear let us pray that our eyes be on God. How is it possible to cope with the hardships of life? If you would like to explore some answers join us virtually as we continue our study of “BELIEVE" by Randy Frazee. We believe your investment of time will not go unrewarded.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are currently using a virtual meeting via Zoom. Our virtual meeting will last about 45 minutes. If you would like to participate, please email me at [email protected]. Our meetings will still be held the first and third Tuesday of each month. Newcomers are always welcome! Please contact George and Rose Mills([email protected]) for additional information.

Evening Community Christian Book Club Study Wants To Do More!

We know that humanity has faced many periods of uncertainty, distress, world wars, disease, pandemics, and natural disasters. What seems to get us through these times is faith. Not only faith in God but also each other. We seem to dig deep in ourselves and find ways within our abilities to help, care, solve, build and repair with at times bold compassion and determination. These characteristics and talent bring unity and focus. People regardless of belief all show the same qualities and characteristics.

We believe we see that now in the response to COVID-19. We see all segments of our society united against this enemy; government, private industry, non-profits, and individuals all pitching in for Victory. Each being called to one hope. Some may ask where is God in this? He is here working in each of us. We see Him in the nurses, doctors, first responders, our citizens reaching out to the elderly; youth trying to understand how they can help, and many of them making a difference. All seem to be answering a ‘Call.’

There is a biblical scripture which helps us know that God is not only with us, He is working through us because He is in each of us: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:4-6 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/eph.4.4-6.NIV

For such a time as this, may God grant us the joy of hope. Driven by Love, Jesus gave his life to bring us back to God. Let us, each day, remember the Cross; what Jesus did for us, and most importantly by His resurrection sealing and guaranteeing victory over death, the forgiveness of sin and life eternal. We would like to pray for you and with you. Email us at [email protected]. We will pray for you and circle that prayer back to you. We will also just be there for you. Please know that we hold your request in confidence but only shared with God himself.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
