Message from the Board

“The mission of the Board of Directors of the Preserve at Jordan Lake is to enhance quality of life, property values, and social interaction of the community. The Board will administer the bylaws and covenants of the community in a fair, fiscally responsible, and ethical manner.”

It’s September and can you believe it, we are finally used to wearing masks everywhere we go! Who would have thought?? By the way, if you are looking for a re-usable fabric mask that’s pretty comfortable and reasonably priced at $4, I stumbled on some at Guglhupf Bakery in Durham of all places.

Meanwhile, just a few items of note for this month. The pool will be open on weekends until the end of September. I’d like to thank the attendants we had over the summer. I think the pool was kept cleaner than in past years thanks to this crew.

Thanks also to the kindly unknown good citizen who cleaned up the beer cans from the walking trail. It’s much appreciated!!

Anybody out there in need of a good spot to store a boat, jet ski, camper, or trailer? Well, it turns out we have some available spots up at the Boat Yard! Just contact Jacob at CAS ([email protected]) or fill out the request form on our website and you too can be free of those pesky violation letters!

For those of you who read the letter regarding signs and flags: Yup, there was a mistake as 4’x 6’ US and NC flags are allowed, no worries. And yes, seasonal flags are fine, college ones too. And we’re not going to go around and rip up your little happy pineapple garden flag. The goal was to remind everyone that there are some restrictions, such as political signs/flags only allowed 45 days prior to elections, and businesses/contractors shouldn’t be putting up their advertising signs and leaving them up indefinitely.

Thanks to Denny Lewis for resurrecting the Grounds Committee!!! Much appreciated, clearly I sucked at that job, looking forward to seeing things get spruced up a bit!!

Did you spend the past months cleaning out your closets, basements, etc., and now you don’t know what to do with all that junk? Thanks to Palina Frazier, the neighborhood yard sale will take place on October 3, 2020.

Need a flu shot? CVS will be at the POA Clubhouse from 8:00-11:00 AM on September 19, September 24, and September 29. Check out the CVS ad on Page 6 for additional information.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for now, or at least that’s all I can remember at the moment. Bring on Fall and say goodbye to

Ashley & Casey Reti - 340 Mountain Laurel

Ane & John Walker - 683 Bear Tree Creek

Karina Dundurs—191 Brown Bear

If you are new to The Preserve and you have not yet been welcomed, please contact Julia Hobbie-Low at [email protected]. One of our block captains will visit you with a welcome bag containing information about The Preserve and neighboring cities in our area.

A Note from Social Committee Chair Palina Frazier

Hello Dear Neighbors,

August has been another month of adventures, hasn’t it? Hurricanes, earthquakes, heat, and all in the middle of a pandemic. I just can’t wait to see what September brings! I can’t say it hasn’t been interesting. At least the pool will stay open on weekends in September.

The food trucks coming through have been a pleasant change to the regular dinner menus in our homes. September brings a few more, some old, some new. We have delicious BBQ, Irish food, deli sandwiches as well as Korean, Italian, Japanese, and some ice cream food trucks that have been booked so far. There is a list of September food trucks in The Preserve Perspective. And be sure to watch Nextdoor for updates as I try to sneak a few new ones in when I can.

The neighborhood yard sale is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. There is a $5 registration fee. You will find the flyer with all of the information listed in this issue of The Preserve Perspective, and it will also be posted on Nextdoor. All COVID-19 precautions should be taken. Please request that shoppers wear a mask and maintain proper social distancing. A sign reminding your shoppers of this would be helpful. Please be aware if Gov. Cooper decides COVID-19 virus results show increased concerns/restrictions, the yard sale will be suspended immediately. Updates regarding this decision will be on Nextdoor, so please check for any information. The Governor’s orders will be followed, and your understanding will be appreciated. Be safe please!

It is still difficult to plan any social events so far in advance; however, I am planning a safe event for Halloween for families. This information will be in the next newsletter. Think pumpkins!!

Until next time, stay safe, wash your hands, wear a mask, and maintain your distance….

Correction to Sign and Flag Regulations

The sign and flag rule recently sent to the community misstated the size of allowable United States and North Carolina flags. The correct size limit is 4 feet by 6 feet. The corrected rule is available in the real estate and information section in the Policies and Rules Document at preserveatjordanlake.com.

In Memoriam

Victor Winkler

1940-2020

Vic Winkler, a long time Preserve resident, lost his long-standing battle with heart disease on August 11, 2020. He was receiving home hospice care and was surrounded by his family.

His many friends, neighbors, and Preserve residents will miss Vic's ever-present smile, his sense of humor, and his warm and engaging personality. The family had asked friends and relatives to provide their favorite "Vic" stories and photos; these brought him much comfort in his waning days.

No public memorial service is planned. The Winkler fami-ly has asked that donations in memory of Vic be sent to the Chatham Community Library, 197 NC Hwy 87 N, Pittsbo-ro, NC 27312. Attn: Rita Van Duinen.

The Preserve Evening Christian Book Study Club

We will be centering our next study on how to think, act, and be like Jesus. Pastor Randy Frazee has developed a great study.

The Believe Bible Study Series helps you answer three questions:

1. What do I believe and why does it matter?

2. How can I put my faith into action?

3. Am I becoming the person God wants me to be?

As you journey through this series, whether in a group or on your own, one simple truth will become undeniably clear: What you believe drives everything.

We will begin this study in August. We will also continue to meet using virtual meeting space in Zoom and in person outside (weather permitting) with a small group of no more than 10 with social distancing until restrictions are lifted. Our virtual meeting will last about 45 minutes.

If you would like to participate, email George Mills at [email protected]. Our meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 PM. Newcomers are always welcome; please email George for further information.

Evening Community Christian Book Club Study Wants To Do

More!

Does our worldview define how we think, act and form relationships? There seems to be a lot of energy spent in dishonoring others, personal agendas, keeping a record of wrongs, getting angry, destroying lives and even killing. Is it possible to change the motivation? And seek out those ideas on which we can agree?

Is there a higher universal common standard to be used as a foundation to all relationships? We believe there is, it’s called LOVE. Please read 1Corinthians 13:4-7. This Bible passage tells us what love is and what it is not. It lays out a higher standard. We believe most of us can understand and agree with the message. It is our hope that we can agree and live the standard. We would like to pray with you and for you. All requests are confidential. Please email [email protected].
