The Palm Beaches tick many a box for me when I look to travel in the US. Year-round sunshine, endless stretches of pristine sands, some

of the most iconic streets in the US; it’s a destination that never fails to fulfil that Floridian ideal. Yet, above all else, it is the pervading

essence of old-world glamor that truly captivates me. It’s a glamor that goes hand in hand with the area’s enchanting

history of wealthy vacationers and afternoon cocktail parties in the early 19th century. A glamor that has guided the Palm Beaches into

an era of modern elegance and refinement.

Today, the Palm Beaches are still the epitome of luxury and grace; all you need do is meander past the boutiques of Worth Avenue or

stop for a drink at the chandeliered Breakers’ bar to witness this never-ending ode to a golden age. But the area is also the epitome of natural beauty. For each moment I spend absorbing the history and decadence of the Palm Beaches, I also spend outdoors, cycling

endless pathways and wandering, rootless, from one stunningbeach to the next. It is this combination of the old, the new and the natural that will leave you breathless. Far from just another beach

destination; this is a place that caters to the individual.

It only took one trip for me to see that the original allure of the Palm Beaches’ glamor is still very much alive.

I’m certain it will be the same for you too.

Surfing, kite surfing, deep sea fishing, scuba diving, as well as exploring the beautiful natural surroundings and parks are all popular year-round activities. Jupiter Beach is also steeped in history, and one of its main landmarks is the Jupiter Inlet lighthouse, erected in the 1800s which continues to stand atop a 46 foot hill, on the north shore of the Jupiter inlet.

Delray Beach is one of Palm Beach County’s favourite beach destinations, boasting two miles of public beaches along with two parks; Delray Municipal Beach and Atlantic Dunes Park. While there are over 47 miles of pristine beaches in the The Palm Beach County, the crown jewel has to be the exclusive Palm Beach; a 14 mile long, half mile-wide island of wealth and extravagance. Palm Beach enjoys the benefit of warm blue water and gentle breezes, and is surrounded by palatial homes of the uber wealthy and famous that visit the area (The Kennedys, Rockefellers and Vanderbilts all have their winter homes here). If you feel like a change from relaxing on the sun drenched beach; you can get a taste of Palm Beach’s luxury at any of the 5 star hotels, first rate restaurants and stylish shops that are all nearby. What’s more, Florida’s most famous natural landmark, the Everglades National Park, is just a one hour drive south west. The park’s 1.5 million acres of prairies are the nation’s largest remaining sub-tropical wilderness and home to an array of rare and unusual animals and plants.

Singer Island is one of the best fishing and water sport locations on the eastern sea board, as well as a prime location for relaxation with all the finer things in life being close at hand. here the merging of lake Worth lagoon, the Intracoastal Waterway, and Palm Beach Inlet mixed with the warm waters of the Gulf Stream make this seven mile stretch of pristine beach a popular choice in The Palm Beaches. Water based activities here are endless; visitors can spend days parasailing, fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, and snorkelling. This part of the coast also plays host to one of the most remarkable diving spots in the world, under the Blue heron Bridge, from where you can witness exotic sea life, world class reefs and historic wrecks.

The Palm Beaches are brimming with quirky, sophisticated and luxurious urban hot spots. These are just a few of our favorites…

Ask any resident of The Palm Beaches where the most artistic part of the county lies and, without a doubt, ‘lake Worth’ will be their first response. It’s home to the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County and so this is a place of colorful festivals (the Street Painting Festival in February is incredible) interesting art galleries and boutique shops. If you’re looking for an understated yet equally vibrant alternative to the general glitz and glam of The Palm Beaches, this is it.

Now this may be an obvious choice (who hasn’t heard of Atlantic Avenue?) but no first timer to The Palm Beaches could make a visit without taking time to wander down this exciting street. When darkness falls in particular, it’s imperative you take a stroll down Atlantic Avenue to see what’s on offer. You’ll be serenaded by an eclectic mix of music that spills out on to the streets from a variety of venues. Take your pick, head inside and treat yourself to a few drinks as you lap up the exhilarating atmosphere.

BEST URBAN HOTSPOTS

Voted one of America’s ‘Most Iconic’ streets in 2013, there was no way we couldn’t include Worth Avenue on our list of urban hotspots. It’s a beautiful street covered in flowers and boasting classic architecture that wouldn’t look out of place on a hollywood movie set. If you’re here to shop, then the list of high-end brands is endless, whilst art galleries and chic bars are just as common. What’s more, you’re only a few feet from the ocean should you need a rest from carrying those shopping bags.

Boca Raton, or simply ‘Boca’ to the locals, is one of Palm Beach County’s premier locations. Boasting a wealth of pristine beaches, gourmet restaurants, boutique shops and world class hotels, you’ll be as unsurprised as us to know this is a regular haunt of the rich and famous. There’s no better place to soak this up than at Mizner Park, the area’s lifestyle center. In addition to the usual high-end shops, restaurants and bars, Mizner Park also lays claim to an amphitheater and arts center, so you can finish up a day of shopping or sun-bathing with a good dose of culture.

Once known as ‘Pelican Island’, it has been largely uninhabited until it underwent an incredible restoration project in 1992. head up to the northern tip of the island to enjoy a swimming break and white sand beaches before carrying onwards through the mangroves.

As well as wildlife on land there is a whole other world to be discovered in the blue Atlantic waters. Palm Beach County boasts a huge variety of coral and wreck diving opportunities for divers of all abilities. The Cable Crossing site happens to be a particular favorite of ours. Easy enough for beginners but home to rays, turtles and nurse sharks, you’re sure to be awe-struck no matter how many dives you’ve embarked on in the past.

Join us on a culinary tour of the region’s very best restaurants.

For a good dose of atmosphere as well as some delicious dishes, the Atlantic Grille is one of our top choices. Get in amongst the action with a front row seat facing the restaurant’s busy exhibition kitchen, or set yourself up next to a giant aquarium full of fluorescent jellyfish. As well as the 450 gallon aquarium, there’s also a new 2,500 gallon shark tank in the restaurant. Dining next to these majestic creatures adds a truly unique, oceanic edge to your dining experience. Much of the seafood featured on the Seagate’s innovative menu is sourced locally and brought to life with bold flavors and culinary flair. Choose from delicious signature dishes like seafood bisque and orange chilli glazed swordfish, or opt for one of their top quality steaks – the fillet mignon with truffle fries in particular is a real treat.

There are a few different dining options at the Four Seasons, but it’s the understated elegance of their main Restaurant Bar and lounge that really stands out. lined with classical columns and low-lit by wall-lamps, the serene atmosphere here allows you to concentrate on the main event - the fantastic food. Start off your evening in the lounge bar with a signature cocktail or two – we’d recommend the herb Garden Mojito, made with fresh basil and mint plucked straight from the hotel herb garden, before heading into the dining area for dinner. Studded with the freshest fish and sustainable Atlantic seafood, the menu here offers up everything from Ahi Tuna Tartar to Applewood Smoked BBQ Cobia, as well mouth-watering meat dishes.

Set in the inviting interiors of the Brazilian Court hotel, Café Boulud presents some of The Palm Beaches’ premier cuisine. Opened in 2003 by New York based chef and 3-Michelin starred restaurateur Daniel Boulud, this Palm Beach branch boasts an extensive four-category menu and wide selection of wines. Choose from classic French favourites on la Tradition menu, seasonal dishes and veggie courses on la Saison and le Potager and innovative world cuisine on le Voyage. Expertly prepared and beautifully presented, every dish is a work of art, but our personal favorites have to be the lemongrass Vichyssoise and the fragrant Nougat Glacé served with a hibiscus and mixed berry consommé.

The new Breakers hMF restaurant gives even the highest acclaimed Floridian restaurants a run for their money. An ode to the classic Palm Beach cocktail party, the décor is the creative vision of artist Adam D Tihany, re-defining decadence through high painted ceilings, lavish furnishings, chandeliers and a 1950s style grand hall. Seriously, you’ll be blown away before you’ve even sat down. Serving up an extensive collection of well-crafted cocktails, world-class wines and gourmet and global cuisines, you’ll find the perfect pairing for each and every course. Sushi, Serrano ham, Szechuan, swordfish…the list is endless.

No matter what time of year you visit The Palm Beaches, there will be a point that the balmy temperatures and endless list of outdoor activities will leave you gasping

for a tipple. When that time comes, these are the places to head to.

Think exposed brickwork, low lighting and artistic mixology and you’ve got Boynton Beach’s Sweetwater. This place goes somewhat against the grain by pursuing a brooding vibe and shutting out Florida’s famous sunlight, but this may be why we love it so much. Variety is the spice of life, as they say. The cocktails here are a must try, their fresh ingredients and complimentary flavors introduce your taste buds to something truly special. lap up the speakeasy atmosphere and sip a bourbon, tarragon agricole rhum, peach puree and lemon infused cocktail. It really is as good as it sounds.

It might be the colorful street art that adorns El Camino’s façade that draws you in, but it’ll be the mixologist’s creations and vibrant atmosphere that will make you stay. The most exciting addition to Delray Beach in a few years, El Camino serves some delicious Mexican cuisine, but it’s the tequila bar and craft cocktails we want you to experience. Everything on the menu feels authentically Mexican, and you can’t go wrong with a cold margarita on a hot Floridian day, right?

WHERE TO DRINK

Ta-Boo is, undeniably, the place to be seen in. One of the area’s oldest and most coveted establishments, the waiting list for a table here is often long and sparkling with the names of the rich and famous. John F Kennedy and Frank Sinatra are just a few of Ta-Boo’s past patrons, and as legend has it, the Bloody Mary was invented here to aid the hangover of Woolworth heiress Barbara hutton. For a slice of history and an insight into how the other half live, a foray into the glamorous world of Ta-Boo is essential.

We’re going back to The Palm Beaches regal roots with this offering. A glamorous combination of old and new housed in one of the area’s most iconic and certainly oldest building, hMF is an ode to the classic Palm Beach cocktail party. Get dressed up and settle down at the bar, surrounded by lavish furnishings, sparkling chandeliers and high painted ceilings. Once you’ve taken it all in, you can think about ordering from the extensive list of hand-crafted cocktails and world-class wines.

We’ve handpicked some of our favorite family activities. It’s not all glamor, gourmet dining and boutique shopping you know.

The loggerhead Marinelife Center is an exciting hub of conservation working to promote and protect Florida’s coastal ecosystems, laying special emphasis on the protection of – yep, you guessed it – loggerhead sea turtles. Begin by getting the children thinking green with the Choose2Reuse workshop where they’ll be turning the monthly beach clean-up finds into creative masterpieces. And once they’re finished with their artistic pursuits? It’s time to get going on one of the Marinelife Center’s eco-tours, where you’ll learn about marine ecology and turtle conservation as you paddle your way through mangrove channels.

Florida’s National Scenic Trail is a must for that healthy dose of adventure. Experience the unique and historic natural landscapes that span across approximately 1,000 miles (don’t worry; you don’t have to do it all).Need to give your feet a break? Kayak the waterways for a new perspective on your stunning surroundings. Florida’s Scenic Trail; a sure fire way to tire out those little legs and leave you with more time for that glass of wine when they’re tucked up in bed that bit earlier…

One experience neither you nor the kids will ever forget.

last but not least, it’s time to head out on a tour of Florida’s infamous Everglades. hop aboard your airboat and begin a highly educational journey through the sawgrass marshes of this fascinating tropical wetland. If you’re lucky, you could be in with the chance of seeing snakes and alligators in their natural habitat as you listen to your personal tour guide narrating, David Attenborough style. WHERE TO STAy

The Chesterfield Hotel had us at “Hello” – or rather, the moment they handed over the glass of sherry on arrival. It’s fair to say that it’s the king of boutique hotels, exuding a classy but eccentric vibe and laying claim to a history that spans back decades. Much like Madonna, Chesterfield Hotel has recreated itself time and time again (and always gets it right).

located on the rather aptly named Cocoanut row, Chesterfield Hotel stands in the center of a quiet, residential area, making it a perfect retreat away from Palm Beach’s busier districts. Despite this cosy location, however,

This is where Chesterfield really gets exciting. The hotel boasts an array of rooms that vary in design. If you’re looking for simple and elegant, they’ve got it. A romantic, dimly lit hub? Done. And for you quirkier folk, there are even rooms that have gone pattern mad. Whatever your taste, you can rest assured that all of these rooms are finished to an impeccable, sophisticated standard, and come equipped with all the modern amenities you could ever need.

Putting aside the freshly baked cookies that they offer at reception (yes, you read that right, and they’re delicious), the Chesterfield Hotel really does go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Okay, so we’re a little biased, but the English touches especially, make a huge amount of difference (think extremely attentive staff and afternoon tea). We recommend you take part in the Victorian Tea Experience. Trust us, you’ll have a great time – we know, they taught us how to read the future in tea leaves.
