To All Malden High School Educators, Staff, Students & Administrators:

This week we held our annual “Get AHEAD Day” where we engage our entire, four-class student body and our entire staff in a four-hour session of testing, information and enrichment, tailored to each specific grade level. For the senior class of 2020, we steered them toward all the resources available to them at Malden High School to help prepare them for life after MHS, whether it be further education, the military or the workplace. For members of our junior and sophomore classes it was practice PSAT testing, proctored by our staff in the classrooms. Our freshman got a motivational informational season where we reinforced our expectations of them as first-year students here and assistance with setting goals for academic achievement and social and extracurricular activity participation. We even had the U.S. Army Recruiting Station personnel lead our 9th graders in an invigorating stretching and exercise regimen in the gym. I would like to to thanks all of you who participated in the planning, coordination and monitoring of Get AHEAD Day, especially our administrative “go-to’s” for the day, Mr. Payeur and Ms.Northrop and of course our entire guidance department staff who put together the extensive sessions for our seniors. Time well spent, and a job well done on behalf of our students. ***

I am looking for two-to-three staff members to join the School Council. We meet four-to-five times per year with our first meeting scheduled for next week. We will be working very closely with parents and students to develop and adjust our School Improvement Plan. Please let me know if you are interested. I am eager to fill these spots and pull on your talents and knowledge in an effort to improve our school. Thank you in advance for considering joining us. Mr. Mastrangelo- MHS Principal

Get AHEAD Day a success this week

LIVE LIKE BECCA SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER: Sat., Nov. 2 Good afternoon friends and colleagues of Malden,

On Saturday, November 2 (just under 3 weeks), we will be hosting our sixth annual Live Like Becca Scholarship Fundraiser. In the past five years, we have raised over $50,000! With that, we were able to present five more deserving Malden High Seniors with scholarships in Rebecca's memory. It was such an emotional, exciting night and so appreciative that we were able to raise that money and keep Rebecca's spirit alive. For those who do not know about Rebecca or the fundraiser night, it takes place in honor of my cousin, Rebecca Knight. Rebecca was a 2005 Malden High School graduate who was tragically taken away from her family and friends in June 2014. She was on a white water rafting trip with friends in Colorado where the tragic accident occurred. Though it is an extremely shocking tragedy, friends and family are able to take some sort of comfort in knowing that she passed doing something adventurous, which is exactly who she was. I know that many people in Malden knew Rebecca, had her in school, or knows the Knight family from all their involvements here in Malden. I wanted to be able to extend this invitation to members of the Malden community who are interested in attending or maybe even donating something to the event. I have attached a flyer of our event and also have our website that you can check out, livelikebecca.com ! Thanks for your time and for reading about our event.

Sincerely, Lilah Grant
