The White Paper identified proposals to create Specialised Diplomas in 14 broad sector areas at Levels1 (foundation), 2 (intermediate) and 3 (advanced) to provide a highly-valued applied

route for learners that genuinely reflects the needs of employers. (DfES Pathfinder Specification)

The 14 Specialised Diplomas:

2008: Engineering / Health and social care / ICT / Creative and media / Construction and the built environment

2009: Land-based and environment / Manufacturing / Hair and beauty / Business administration and finance / Hospitality and catering

2010: Public services / Sport and leisure / Retail / Travel and tourism
