A Review of 2011 Events Spring’s arrival ushered in the Spring Dust

Off, the club’s official start to the year. A group of about 30 JDCLI members met at the scenic and historic 56th Fighter Squadron Restaurant

to enjoy a brunch buffet, to get reacquainted with other members and to talk cars. The busi-ness side of the meeting was lead by George

Stephani and Mike Carroll, Vice Presidents, with

door prizes pro-vided by Jaguar Huntington along with a sponsor-

ship check of $250.00.

The dealership also provided a white 2011 XK

coupe for the club to preview that day. Previously, George and Mike, our new

Concours Chair met with Jeff Myers, General Manager of Jaguar Huntington to discuss events for 2011. Jeff expressed continued support for

the club and we are very thankful for his enthusias-

tic support. Our next event

was participating in the Stony Brook Vintage

Car Show. About half a dozen mem-

bers brought their cars to the show and some

came as spectators. With live music, people’s choice awards, and great weather it was a pic-ture perfect day. The lawn was filled to capacity

with about 50 cars. At the end of the show about half the cars lined up for a drive on the local roads of Stony Brook/Smithtown; finishing

up at Tic Toc Café in St, James for a dinner sampling of some of their creative cuisine, a

at the Peter Pan Diner for breakfast and then drove over to Marty Himes’ Museum. The weather that day broke a heat record; I think it topped out around 100 degrees. Mike Carroll brought along a brand

new white XJ from Jaguar Huntington and a few took it out for a test drive. Again a big thanks goes out to Jeff Myers, General Manager of Jag-uar Huntington for the support of our events.

At the museum was an extensive collection of Long Island racing memorabilia along with all kinds of other odds and ends. There was eve-rything from the concrete fence posts from the Vanderbilt Parkway to

vintage bicycles, gas pumps, and ticket booths from Freeport Raceway. Marty gave the club a private tour relating much information on his col-lection, people he met, and his part in racing on Long Island race tracks.

We hope Marty Himes, will soon find a sponsor so his collection can be displayed inside one large building. Right now some is housed in out-side trailers and in the elements. It would be a sad to see some of his collection just rust away. Marty doesn’t charge any admission to see his

collection or to give a tour. He just enjoys about his experiences, the nostalgia of auto racing and answering questions. At the end of the tour the club presented Marty with a check and cash donations to help him

preserve his collection and for his generous time in accommodating the club. Thanks Marty! JDCLI’s Annual Winery Event took place at Jason’s Vineyard on the

beautiful North Fork. There was music under the shady covered porch, delectable wine tastings and a luncheon catered by The Garage of Haup-pague. Jaguar Southampton provided a new Super Charged XKR con-

vertible for us all to admire and test drive. Jaguar Huntington sent a Jaguar XF. Another big thanks to both dealerships and to AJ for joining us. (Cont. pg 4)

The JDCLI Concours d’ Elegance at the picturesque Vanderbilt Museum

The 2011 Concours d’ Elegance was another successful

show thanks to Mike Carroll, our new Concours Chairman. With the passing of the baton from Concours Chairman George Stephani to Mike Carroll, the show flowed seamlessly

and drew 50 plus cars with our Master of Ceremonies Joe Limongelli bringing up cars for comparisons and highlighting all kinds of interesting details about the different cars. Thanks Joe

for more fine showmanship! George Daube, past Club President who now resides just

outside of Atlanta Georgia and is a member of the North Georgia Jaguar Club, paid a visit to the show. George looked

good and the visit was a nice surprise. Steve and Kris Becker from the MG club took the pictures for the photo plaques; this has become a favorite keepsake for many entrants. Susan Blackwell once again helped out at the

raffle table with Lee Stephani, who made up made up the bas-kets and wrapped the prizes in attractive packaging.

Jaguar Huntington supplied goody bags and Jaguar regalia. Several JDCLI members donated items and gift cards for the silent auction as did vendors, namely XK’s Unlimited, J.C. Tay-

lor, Hagerty Insurance, and Aid Auto Stores. The proceeds of our 50/50 raffle aided the Wounded Warrior Project.

THANKS to all our Judges and volunteers and members who con-tributed in making the show a success! So much “behind the

scenes” work goes into the show and your help made it the success

that it was. We are quite excited to announce that the next Concours

d’ Elegance on Sept, 16th 2012 will be a combined show with the MG Car Club. We are hoping to attract other British, European, and some American classics car clubs to join in

once again and fill the fields. Details for running the joint event have been worked out with just a few small details to be final-ized. The 2012 show has the potential of having at least 100

cars. Concours registration forms and fliers have just been completed and will be available in June.

All British Car Club Meet Story & photos by Steve Becker

January 22 saw members of the British car clubs meeting

at Elijah Churchill's Public House, in Fort Salonga, to dis-cuss the coming year and to coordinate our events. This

year we had folks from the Jaguar Drivers Club, the Long

Island

Triumph Association, the Mini Club, and a delegate repre-senting several clubs. Along with a few folks from MG Car

Club-LIC.

The purpose of this annual meeting is to ensure, as much

as possible, that we don’t wind up with prospective entrants

and spectators having to make a choice of which event to attend on a certain date. Age and the economy have already

reduced the number of cars being entered and we want to

avoid reducing attendance even further.

We worked from a basic list of events printed from last year’s copies of Skidmarks, adding in the dates for this

year

and then incorporating the current planned events of the

other clubs. Two hours of discussion, fortified with the ex-

cellent food served at Churchill’s, left us with a complete list of the currently planned events, although I am sure

changes will occur as the year progresses.

We all wound up with some to-dos, such as verifying

dates

and locations. The MG and Jaguar clubs have already com-

bined the Vanderbilt shows for this year, and some other

events may also be jointly run. For example, we may be running a joint EuroSunday Alternative Run with the Tri-

umph Club, something that may make sense considering

we passed a group of their Triumphs in the circle below the

Bear Mountain Bridge on last year’s ride. I will be updating the schedule and printing it over the

next couple of months so you can mark your calendars. As

the year

goes by there will be inevitable changes of dates, locations

or

other information, so watch the schedule each month to avoid missing that event you were waiting for. After that it

is up to you to get yourself, your family and anyone else

you know to bring their cars out and participate. We’re

looking forward to a great year.
