Staying Connected

Joys:

Carolyn Whisler said that she was so happy for children’s church today. Shey McGuire announced they had successfully ran in the Haiti H2o race and

had collected close to $900. They held hands for almost the whole race and finished just under 36 minutes. Elin somehow managed to do a handspring across the finish line. They are still accepting donations.

Dave Goodwin was happy to report a successful lens replacement in his eye and was amazed at the major improvement. Colors are much more distinct. He gives praise to God.

Mrs. Temple was happy that her parents were coming in and would be attending Austin’s Strings Concert at John Marshall on Tuesday at 6:30.

Michael Murphy was happy his choir was going to be able to sing with some of the JM string band on Friday evening and it would be good to see some of his prior students.

Mike Linger announced that they are finally able to begin construction on the new addition at House of the Carpenter a year after breaking ground.

Concerns:

Joe Blair asked that we remember John and Donna Morrison who are mourning the loss of their cat last week. Pastor John said they had to make the decision to put her down.

Donna Morrison asked for prayer for their son Ben who is having minor surgery and for Pauline a friend of her sister’s.

Sam Rader asked for prayer for a sister in law having surgery. Marcie Robbins asked to remember the John Marshall students after a boy was

killed in a car accident and another involved in a bicycle accident and was in serious condition at Ruby Hospital.

Arlie Crow asked to remember his friend Doug. Mike Linger from HOC stated a 50% increase in needs at the food pantry and are

as a result the food pantry needs to be replenished. Other:

There is a financial need by a person on the staff of the CDC. Whatever money

is collected at the altar during communion today will be given to her.

Linda Blair announced this week was the last women’s bible study until fall.

Debbie Chavanak announced that Wednesday they are preparing meals for the

CDC families and they could use some help in preparation. Please bring your

donations to the church by Tuesday.

The Opus concert is today at 2:00 p.m. in Moundsville.

Michael Murphy announced that the choir would be taking their summer break

and that he is looking for persons to perform special music.

Sharing the peace at Glen Dale United Methodist Church

Communities of Transformation

Community of Transformation is a poverty alleviation program the House of the Carpenter is developing in partnership with Think Tank (a non-profit in Springfield, OH) and Communities of Transformation (a ministry of the Alabama/West Florida Annual Conference). In order to initiate the program and to do it well, we need to understand how the faith community understands poverty. Attached is a link to a short survey for the folks at Glen Dale UMC who have volunteered, contributed or worked with one of our ministries to share their understandings. The link is operational until May 31

st, but the

earlier people complete the survey, the easier it is for us to begin preparation for the COPE event. Hard copy paper surveys can be obtained from the church office.
