Following a meeting in the office of Additional Commissioner Sunil Dhamne of Municipal Public Health Department. Dhamani gave a green signal for the hospital's work, respondingpositively. Shiv Sena MLA Dilip Lande has started efforts to provide health services to millions of citizens of Chandivali assembly constituency, and the process of setting up a 200 to 250-bed hospital in Chandivali is on the frontline. The population of the Chandivali assembly constituency has increased dramatically in the last few years. Thousands of families have been rehabilitated from the National Park area of Goregaon, Malad, in the area of Sangharsh Nagar. As the population of the area is increasing rapidly, the municipal service facilities are under heavy stress. Health care is important in this regard and Lande is constantly striving for this. Lande, who has braked the 20-year-old legacy of MLA, has started chasing civic amenities. He had corresponded with the municipality to set up a grand hospital of a municipality on the one lakh foot reserved plot of the BMC in Sangharsh Nagar. Municipal officials recently inspected the reservation plot while administrative courtesans were being chased. On Tuesday, December 7, 2019 Lande held a joint meeting at the office of Addl Commissioner Sunil Dhamane of Municipal Public Health Department and discussed this issue in detail. “after detail discussion the Dhamane has given positive feedback and instructed to administrative system to check requirement for the work of the hospital,” Lande said. He further said, “A grand and well- equipped hospital of 200 to 250 beds of municipality will be built in Chandivali. About seven to nine storeyed buildings will be constructed for the hospital.”Shiv Sena sub divisional president Ashok Matekar, Bhaskar Patil , ex-corporator Ishwar Tayde, Shakhapramukh Anant Utekar, Balakrishna Gatte, Prayag Dilip Lande, women's wing member Prabhavati Palav, Dhanashree Pawar , and other municipal officials were present in the meeting. This will also reduce the burden on the existing public health system here, which comprises of a big private hospital, that more often than not cannot cater to needs of the lower middle and working class populations, which include the thousands of families that have been rehabilitated at Sangharsh Nagar from the national park area near Borivali. rban forests being

Uplanted according to the Miyawaki method

of plantation is one of the projects being act ively supported by the Municipal Commiss ioner, Praveen Pardeshi. The Miyawaki method of plantation has been propagated by the internationally acclaimed Japanese botanist, Akira Miyawaki, who has also been awarded the Asahi prize and The Blue Planet prize. Across the world, Miyawaki has disseminated information and encouraged ventures which support the growth of na tu ra l vege ta t i on on degraded land.

Powai in 'S' ward is one of the few suburbs in Mumbai wh i ch w i l l soon boas t Miyawaki forests. When the Municipal Commissioner expressed his interest in the project and earmarked several suburbs for these urban forests, AGNI in S ward strongly proposed that the forests be planted on the banks of Lake Powai. While the first plantationis being carried out in an MCGM garden in 700 sq. ft of space, Lake Powai is slated to get its own urban forests soon.

This forest is being created by the BMC in collaboration with NGOs Nature Forever Society and

Nature India Eco solutions. The corporate sponsor is Crisil which is using its CSR funds for the plantation of trees and maintenance of natural ecosystems. Crisil will maintain the plantation for two years. More than 64 species of trees native to Mumbai are being used in this first plantation in Powai.

No horticultural practices or chemicals will be used in this urban forest. According to the experts working on the project, a minimum of 30-40 native species of trees are required for the plantation to be a success. Powai looks forward to its first Miyawaki forest with great pride!

Thanks to IIT-Hyderabad, Polluted Sewage May Soon be Treated Using Algae

RecentdatasuggeststhatIndiadoesnot have the requisite sewagetreatment facilities. Earlier this

Thesegrotesque levels of pollution dischargedintoourwaterbodiesposeseriouspublichealthconcerns.

How do you address this problem?Earlier thisweek, IIT-Hyderabad had

announced that they are developing analgal-bacterial hybrid system (algae-activatedsludgesystem)thattheybelievecan reduce the cost of wastewatertreatment,offerbetterquality recyclablewater and produce bio-diesel and otherv a l u e - a d d e d b y - p r o d u c t s . M o s twastewater treatment plants in India

work on what we call an activatedsludgeprocess.Themicroorganisms(dominated by heterotrophicbacteria)useoxygen torespireandbreak down organic matter in thewastewater. Treatment essentiallyoccurs through many differentmicroorganismsusingpollutantsasafoodsource.“Wh i l e ae rob i c t rea tment

convertsorganicmatterintocarbondioxide and biomass, they haveproblems such as high energy use

(primarily to satisfy oxygen demand ofsuch processes) and production of toomuch sludge which is often difficult todispose. It'salsoacostlyprocessbecausemechanical aeration takes up 40-50 percentofthetreatmentcost.Ourobjectiveisto reduce the aeration cost withoutcompromisingqualityoftreatment,”saysDr. Bhattacharyya, Associate Professor,DepartmentofCivilEngineering, speakingto TBI. The research team is primarilyfocussing on treatment of domesticwastewateranditsindividualcomponentslike those originating from kitchen andlaundry.“Dr. Bhattacharya's team has studied

green micro-algae and diatoms (brownalgae)forthebreakdownoforganicwasteinwastewater. Theyhave also combinedbacteria that enable aerobic treatment, with photosynthetic microalgae. In suchcombined systems, the oxygenproducedbythemicroalgaeduringphotosynthesisis used by the bacteria for aerobicbreakdown of organic waste. Carbondioxide is released during this process.

Microalgae also participate in thetreatment process by assimilating thisdissolved carbon dioxide as well as bytakingupnutrients(forexample, nitrogenandphosphorus)fromwastewaterforcellsynthesis. Thus, asynergisticrelationshipisestablishedwhichislikelytoreducetheoverallcostofwastewatertreatmentandalso ensures a better-quality effluent forreuseandrecyclepurposes,”saysthepressrelease issued by the institution earlierthisweek.“An additional benefit of using algal-

Record-breaking NASA astronaut Christina Koch welcomed the decade that the U.S. plans to return to the moon with a stunning moonrise

photo.Koch, who recently set the record for the longest space mission by a woman, is still aboard the International Space Station and is looking to the future. To celebrate the new year, Koch posted a stunning moonrise photo to Twitter.

"First moonrise seen from the @Space_Station in the decade we go back," Koch wrote in her tweet. This moonrise is not only the first that the astronauts are seeing this year, but also this decade. The moonrise, as Koch said, is the first glimpse of the moon in a decade in which humans expect to return to the lunar surface.NASA's Artemis program aims to land the first woman and the next man on the moon by 2024. This will be the first crewed moon landing since NASA's Apollo 17 mission which, in 1972, was the last mission to land astronauts on the moon. Additionally, Koch is one of 17 female astronauts who could be chosen to be a part of the first crew to land on the moon

with Artemis.Artemis is named after the Greek goddess

of the moon, who is the twin sister to Apollo in Greek mythology. The program's main goal is to return humans to the lunar surface and to develop a long-term human presence on the moon.
