NSDI characteristics

•The objective of SDI is to maximize the use of GI )access to GI provided by different organizations(

•SDI needs coordinated action on the part of governments and organizations

•The primary purpose of SDI is to support decision making

•SDI involves a wide range of activities )technical, institutional, financial and human resources(

NSDI positive effects

• Geo-Information policy• Establishing Unified low level standards for

HW, network,..• Establishing Unified high level standards for

DB design, data exchange, metadata…• Avoiding data monopoly

• Establishing a collaborative strategy and a collaborative policy for Data collection, data base administration

• Avoiding data redundancy through cooperative coordinated data collection and data entry

• Publishing detailed information (metadata) about the existing data for organizations, researchers, and public

•Main portal connects all organizations

•Some organizations participating in this portal have

working agreements to share data for city projects

Where should we locate the school?

•At least 150 meters from major roads (to avoid noise and accidents).

•Within 500 meters of the nearest residential area (to keep students

in a reasonable walking distance).

•Within 200 meter of the city park (so student can have their break in the park)

•Within 500 meter of the city public library (to encourage students for research)

•At least 1000 meters from the industrial zone of the city (to avoid noise)

•The area should be at least 15000 square meters

•Provided with utilities

•The area should form a rectangle with longer distance facing the north direction.

Decision making and time line

Data redundancy Coordinated data collection projects

Conflict in updating data Coordinated updating process

Few agreements for data exchange Perfect data exchange through the IT Policy

Individual analysis (point of view) Collaborative analysis

More time for data collection More time for data analysis & modeling

Slow methods for data exchange Speed exchange through networks

Time and money Saving time and money (1:7)

Data ownership Data ownership and benefits for others Through specialized portals & web services
