• This partnership between the University of Pittsburgh and the State has been happening for the past 10 years to create the CSEP program.

• State-operated vocational rehabilitation facility

• Primarily serves customers of PA OVR

• Recognized as the world’s first and largest comprehensive educational rehabilitation facility

• Opened its doors in April of 1959

To offer quality individualized post-secondary education, which provides career opportunities and independent life skills

• Only self-supporting government facility in PA

• Covers 12 acres under roof

• House 350 dormitory students plus commuters

• Employs 200 individuals

• 54% of students have a primary or secondary cognitive disability (2014)

• Programs offered:• 6 Associate Degree programs

Who are the Participants?

• Individuals with Cognitive Impairments

• Individuals who lack awareness or understanding of how their disability impacts them socially and vocationally

• Example diagnoses:• Neurocognitive Disorder (TBI)

• ASD

• ADHD

• SLD

Tier Organization

• Tier I• Individuals who are currently participating in the full-time term-long CSEP

program

• Tier II• Graduates” of CSEP who are currently enrolled in an HGAC training program

• Tier III• Students who are currently enrolled in an HGAC training program but have

not participated in Tier I; these individuals are referred for consultation and/or cognitive rehabilitation in conjunction with their training program

• 15-weeks

• Full time (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-3:30pm)

• Enrollment limited to 15 resident-only participants

• Designed to foster self- and social-awareness and help participants prepare for the real life demands of employment
