• This partnership between the University of Pittsburgh and the State has been happening for the past 10 years to create the CSEP program.

Hiram G. Andrews Center

• State-operated vocational rehabilitation facility

• Primarily serves customers of PA OVR

• Recognized as the world’s first and largest comprehensive educational rehabilitation facility

• Opened its doors in April of 1959

To offer quality individualized post-secondary education, which provides career opportunities and independent life skills

• One of 8 nationally (PA, MD, TN, GA, VA, MI, KY, AR)

• Only self-supporting government facility in PA

• Covers 12 acres under roof

• House 350 dormitory students plus commuters

• Employs 200 individuals

• 54% of students have a primary or secondary cognitive disability (2014)

• Programs offered:• 6 Associate Degree programs

• 8 Diploma programs

• Vocational training programs 1 to 5 terms in length

Who are the Participants?

• Individuals with Cognitive Impairments

• Individuals who lack awareness or understanding of how their disability impacts them socially and vocationally

• Example diagnoses:• Neurocognitive Disorder (TBI)

• ASD

• ADHD

• SLD

Tier Organization

• Tier I• Individuals who are currently participating in the full-time term-long CSEP

program

• Tier II• Graduates” of CSEP who are currently enrolled in an HGAC training program

• Tier III• Students who are currently enrolled in an HGAC training program but have

not participated in Tier I; these individuals are referred for consultation and/or cognitive rehabilitation in conjunction with their training program

Tier I Program

• 15-weeks

• Full time (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-3:30pm)

• Enrollment limited to 15 resident-only participants

• Designed to foster self- and social-awareness and help participants prepare for the real life demands of employment

Mentorships

• Mentorships are a career training and development tool in which local business and organization leaders provide a real-world work experience and regular performance feedback

• Mentorships are an ideal opportunity for participants to practice implementing the strategies and accommodations they have developed in CSEP

• Center for Assistive and Rehabilitation Technology (CART) Team

• Main emphasis:• Applied evaluations and training

• AT Referrals, Evaluations, and Training

• Mission:• To support the use of strategies and accommodations that were identified in

Tier I

• Assist in the development of strategies and accommodations that are specific to the training the student is receiving

• Services are based on student needs

• Mission:• To assist individuals who did not receive Tier I services in the development of

strategies and accommodations

• To assist the staff in developing reasonable accommodations to promote positive outcomes

• Services are based on student needs
