$15 HOT LUNCH Bungonia is the home to numerous people who may not be looking after themselves in relation to a properly prepared and nutritious meal. I, and others, can prepare a nutritious and flavorsome meal down at the Hall for the princely sum of $15 per head. It won’t be sandwich’s but steak & veg or similar. A proper home made meal with dessert. Now whether you decide to stay and eat the meal with others at the hall or take it home for dinner that night - you are more than welcome to come on down for the meal. Because we have Judy’s Kitchen Table Morning Tea on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, we will provide a lunch time meal on all other Wednesday’s of the month except the 2nd Wednesday. I would appreciate you contacting me on each occasion by the end of the proceeding Monday so that I can cater for the correct numbers. If you don’t pre book, there won’t be a meal for you to collect or eat.
Looking forward to seeing you all.

CHILDRENS YOGHURTS - PRODUCT RECALL
Last week all 110g Tamar Valley Dairy Kids Yoghurt Pouches
were pulled from shelves, and on Sunday The Australian Competi-
tion and Consumer Commission issued another recall involving
three other kids yoghurts.
Calciyum yoghurt 70g pouches, Woolworths yoghurt 70g pouches
and LDI Brooklea yoghurt squishy super size 150g pouches have
all been pulled from shelves due to a packaging issue involving
faulty mushroom style caps.
“It has come to our attention that upon resealing, some of the caps
are failing, resulting in a possible
choking hazard,” the recall notice reads.
“The centre top of the cap may become dislodged upon re-
application of the cap after initial use, and
pose a choking hazard.”
The recalled yoghurts have been available for sale at various retail-
ers including Metcash/IGA, Foodworks, Foodland, Friendly Grocer
4 Square and/or Farmer Jacks, Woolworths and Aldi.
People have been urged to return the yoghurts to their place of pur-
chase for a full cash refund.

BUNGONIA.. (From Our Correspondent.) Progress Meeting --The monthly meeting of the Bungonia and District Progress Association took place on Saturday last. The president (Mr. G. Broadhead) took the chair, and the following business was dealt with:- A letter from the Fish-ery Department was read stating that owing to the lateness of the season trout could not be supplied to be liberated in the upper waters of the Shoalhaven, but when the time ar-rived the request of the association would be complied with. It was decided that application be made for shelter-sheds and tanks at the Lookdown, and that Colonel Ryrie and Mr. Wm. McCourt, Ms.L.A., be asked to urge the matter. It was also decided to allow Miss Reynolds the use of the hall for a social on the night of her picnic, and that the association re-turn thanks to the young lady for the kind invitation to the pic-nic. Accident.- While a couple of lads, sons of. Mr. G. Broad-head, were having a race on Boxing Day one of them, named Leonard, met with rather a peculiar accident. As he was running past a gate the gate opened with the wind, meet-ing the young fellow with great force. He collided with it and was knocked partly senseless, besides being bruised from head to foot.
A meeting of the newly-formed Rifle Club was held at Frost's hotel on Monday last, when the usual eye test took place. A number of members were sworn in. Mr. Marsh Broadhead was elected captain, and tenders were re-quested to be called for the rifle range. January 1.

Only a brief report
this month as we had a
quiet month. We had our
last meeting at Bungonia
hall and talked about
the last Group Council
meeting and the in-
spiriring speaker that
was at that meeting from
OZHarvest.
These people are very
interesting and they are
doing an amazing job.
We have a few things
coming up in September
and the ladies will be
busy and we also have
the Group AGM in October
coming up in a rush.
Our next meeting
will be in Goulburn and
we are all treating our-
selves to a lunch out
afterwards.
Keep safe and well
and wishes to Don Cooper
and congrats to Lorraine
on her bowling suc-
cesses.

people to assist Pauline Dickson in the
kitchen on Market Day, Saturday 30 Sep-
tember to help serve tea, coffee, cakes etc to

ask for help from a younger crowd.
Help is also requested to serve customers at
the BBQ which is being run by Cal.
If you can assist, please call Pauline on

from Mr. J. Garrard, who has retired from business.
School Picnic.- A picnic is to take place here on Saturday, compris-
ing the four public-schools in the Bungonia district : namely,
Bungonia, Inverary, Jacqua, and Jerrara. As it is some consider-
able time since anything of this kind has occurred, it should now be
all the more welcome.
Athletic sports will also take place during the day.
Weather. Quite a change has taken place in the weather this week
from that of last, which was cold, with bleak westerly winds; these
however are changed to frosty nights, followed by fine warm days.

Gardening in September
Daffodils and jonquils are out in abundance herald-
ing the coming of spring but don’t be fooled by the slightly
warmer weather as the frosts are not yet over. Feed bulbs after
flowering but do not lift until the leaves have browned.
Prune winter flowering natives by a third and plant orna-
mental grasses. Plant seedlings of summer dianthus, foxgloves
and columbines, divide perennials and water in well until they are
established. Almond trees are in bloom now adding a lovely pink
to the landscape also flowering is winter honeysuckle and japoni-
cas, the red and also the white variety.
Cut back any damaged or broken branches after the recent
gale force winds. Lawn mowers have hopefully been serviced and
are ready for the spring growth. Be aware that the snakes will be
on the move anytime now.
Grow beetroot, capsicum, cucumber, lettuce, silver beet,
sweet corn and tomatoes.
In the flower garden, carnation, dahlia, delphinium, lark-
spur, marigold, snapdragon and zinnia. Don’t forget to keep gut-
ters clear of debris before the coming fire season.
Enjoy the colour of spring.

Every two weeks I attend the Goulburn Blood Bank in Auburn St, and donate plasma which takes about 1.5 hours for the process to complete & can produce 17 different life saving products from that one donation. I used to attend and donate whole blood but you can only do that every 12 weeks which saves 3 lives. The girls down at the Blood Service are absolute crackers and you will thoroughly enjoy your time down there with them, have a few milk shakes and snacks before leaving and you know that your donation will be di-rectly used in a life saving situation. It is a great feeling to know that you are helping people that you might not even
know with the aid of your blood.

BUNGONIA TIMES is a NOT FOR PROFIT organisation that
is now into it’s 27th year.
This publication can ONLY exist through
the sponsorship of those who advertise in
this publication and in order to advertise,
you also need to pay for the extremely low
costs of your adds. You will NOT find
cheaper advertising anywhere.
It has been noticed that the Bungonia Face-
book Group, together with other Community
Facebook Groups, are now being flooded
with local businesses who are seeking no
cost advertising which is having an impact
on this, and other Community, publications.
Not all community members are on Face-
book, or for that matter, even have internet -
thus the importance of these types of publi-
cations. To publish each and every issue of
the Bungonia Times costs around $266 per
month - and that is just the cost of printing
and that cost can ONLY be met by advertis-
ers and those advertisers paying their bills.
These Facebook Groups were not set up for
advertising but a portal to keep those locals
on Facebook informed of the happenings
( both criminal and social ) around our area.
Shortly, adverts that appear on the Bungonia
Facebook Group will no longer be accepted.
If you wish to advertise, please support your
Community Newspapers by advertising
within their pages and pay immediately in-
stead of us having to continually chase you
for payment of your advertisement.

Tuesday 20 September 1892, page 2 A Narrow Escape at Bungonia. During the heavy thunderstorm on Wednesday evening last an old man named Tho-mas Fahey, in the employ of Mr. J. Ho-gan at Spring Ponds, near Bungonia, had a narrow escape from being struck with lightning. Fahey was engaged at the fire cooking his tea, when the light-ning struck the chimney, making a total wreak of it. Fahey was knocked down, and he must have been insensible for a considerable time. When be regained consciousness he found that the fire had been scattered about in all directions. Fahey received a shaking, but other-wise was not much the worse of his ad-venture. - Correspondent.

BUNGONIA. Wallaby Drive. On Saturday last, twenty two shooters and sixteen drivers, met at Mr. John Hogan's farm, at Spring Pond, to have a day's sport among the wallabies. The morning was frosty, nevertheless, an early start was made. The marsupials were vigorously pursued throughout the day, and when the score was made up, it was found that 269 of the pests had bitten the dust, Mr. George Broadhead being top scorer with 41 to his credit.

BUNGONIA. ( From Our Correspondent.)
The old Parramarrago gaol, which has been standing in this dis-
trict since the first white inhabitant, is now undergoing repairs, and
is to be converted into a large silo at the request of the squire of
Reevesdale. For the last 50 years it has stood only as a monument
to the memory of the convict days, and if it could only speak it
could tell the tale of all the convicts it received into its bosom and of
the cruelty of the knight of the cat-o'-nine-tails. Last week the men
engaged cleaning out the cells came across some old relics, includ-
ing coins which dated back over one hundred years.
Progress Committee. - The monthly meeting of the Bungonia and
District Progress Association was held in Cooper's hall on Saturday
last. The president, Mr. G. Broadhead, who was in the chair, said
that since the special meeting, when it was decided to build a hall,
it had transpired that the committee could not do the work, as the
Lands Department could not sell the land on the site selected with-
out a special survey. He thought that they would either have to wait
or select another site. However, he would leave it to the meeting. A
great deal of discussion took place, and it was decided to adhere to
the site already selected. The question of what class of material
should be used in the building was freely discussed, some favouring
timber and others concrete. Those supporting concrete referred to a
lot of buildings in the vicinity of Goulburn which were built of
concrete and looked perfect models, never getting shabby. It was
then decided to let the matter stand over till next meeting to give
members time to investigate as to which would be the right step, as
well as the cheapest. .

CHANGES.- Mr. E. B. Proctor, junior,
has succeeded in renting from Mr Mi-
chael Ryan, that little estate known as
Brisbane Meadows, situated about two
miles from Bungonia. It is Mr. Proc-
tor's intentions to carry on a model
sheep farm I hear, and I wish him every
success. Improvements.
The old Victoria Inn is now completely
renovated and will soon be opened
again as a pub. Mr. Gerard has spared
no expense in making the place comfort-
able, and consequently, he deserves fair
patronage by the travelling public.
Mr. Road Super Jones was here yester-
day inspecting the site for the proposed
new bridge over the Bungonia river. It
is to he hoped it will not be delayed till some one loses their life by attempting to cross its flood time. SCHOOLS.- Mr. Inspector
O'Byrne payed his annual visit of inspection to the Public school on Wednesday, the 16th instant, and after giving the pupils a severe
test in all the subjects he expressed himself as highly pleased with the progress, and in a short address to the pupils told them that "they
could compare favourably with schools of much larger pretensions." The Observation Book shows the general proficiency to be "fair to
good;" organization, "very good;" dicipline, "good". This is certainly most satisfactory to teacher, pupils, and parents, and all persons
interested in the education of our rising generation. On the same date the Inspector visited the Jacqua public school and examined the
pupils, who, I hear, acquitted themselves well. On Sunday last, after church services, a public meeting, was held in the Jacqua public
school to try and choose some central position for a new school. There was a great deal said, and very little done, one or two factious
parties causing a split in the meeting. However, I think and trust that the majority will choose a place where the greatest number of chil-
dren will be benefitted. August 30th, 1882

BUNGONIA. ( From Our Correspondent. ) On the War Path.- Mr.
Leonard Broadhead took his departure on Saturday last to join the
force that is to meet the enemy at the Dardanelles.
Lieut. Percy Farrier, whom I reported as having been wounded
while engaged in the battle at the Dardanelles, has since died, and it
was reported here that when the news reached the deceased's
mother, who resides at Broken Hill, she dropped dead.

GUN ACCIDENT.- At a wallaby hunt on last Saturday Mr.
George Broadhead met with an accident which might have been
worse. It appears that the shooter stationed next to him fired in the
direction of the line, several of the grains penetrating his arm and
leg. Fortunately, however, he was too far away for the grains to
strike with much force.
No FIRE.- I hear a great many complaints from the parents of the
children attending the school here to the effect that no fire is kept
there for the use of the children, or, if any, very little, insufficient to
keep them warm during this exceptionally cold winter. I myself fail
to see why this should be, considering £1 per year is allowed by the
Department of Education for the purpose of purchasing fuel for
school use, and wood is not so very scarce in this place.

Accident. While feeding a chaff-cutter one day last week, Mr.
Andy Steward got his hand in the way of the knives, and had one
of his fingers taken off, causing the sufferer great pain.

BUNGONIA. ( From Our Correspondent. ) Meetings.- The com-
mittee of the Rabbit Destruction Association held a meeting at
Frost's Victoria Hotel on Saturday last to draw up rules and regu-
lations. Mr. M. Lyons was chairman. It was decided that the rules
be placed before a public meeting as well as the association so as to
have them fully discussed. -
The trustees of the Bungonia recreation ground held a meeting.
at Frost's Hotel the same evening. Mr. R. A. Wood was in the
chair. There was a full attendance. It was decided that tenders be
called for fencing the ground, and a specification was drawn up -
The Bungonia and District Progress Association also met at Coo-
per's Hall the same evening. The president, Mr. G. Broadhead,
took the chair. The business for the meeting was a motion by Mr. J.
M. Broadhead that a hall be erected. The mover strongly advo-
cated the building of a hall at Bungonia. They all know that there
was not sufficient accommodation for half the visitors who attend
their social gatherings, but if a hall were erected people would
come and give entertainments, and socials would be well patron-
ised. Mr. Jas. Ryan, who represented the committee appointed at
last meeting, produced two plans and specifications, which
showed that a building suitable for the purpose could be constructed
for from £85 to £125. A great deal of discussion took place as to
the real cost, as many members wished to know what each mem-
ber's expense would be. Mr Ryan said the members could make a
limit of £3. If that was not sufficient the matter must drop ; but he
could assure them that £5 would not be required, as it would be a
paying concern, and if every member put his little contribution to-
wards it the building could be erected straight away. The motion
was allowed to stand over till next meeting to discover the inten-
tions of the members. On the motion of Mr. J. M. Broadhead, sec-
onded by Mr. L Blake, it was decided to send an exhibit to the
Goulburn Show, and a committee was formed to collect the same.
Amongst the business for next meeting will be a lecture by Mr C.
R. Styles. The subject will be plants and their foods, the class of
fertilisers for the different crops, and the benefits derived by artifi-
cial manuring.
The Stock and Pastures Board will have a merry time of it when
they come out for re-election, as the stock owners in this district are
so disgusted with the Board that they are going to run men against
them who would abolish the Board altogether by means of abolish-
ing the stock tax or reducing it so considerably that the Board would
have to die for want of funds. It is the opinion of the stock owners
that the Boards are neither good for use nor ornament, and that they
can well do without them. The Rabbit Destruction Association
will discuss the matter at next meeting.
Mining - The proprietors of the Jacqua Copper Mine are letting
the carting and hauling of 10 tons of ore, which will be forwarded to
Marulan railway station for despatch to Cockle Creek for trial.
The lode is improving considerably. The company intends spending
£500 in the adjoining claim, and work will be started at once, which
shows that the company has great confidence in its property.
The new police station is now about finished and is a great orna-
ment to the village. The contractor, Mr. Fraser, deserves great
credit for the good work he has carried out. Although he was an
outsider he procured most of the material locally, the stone coming
from the Lumley blue quarry and the timber from Goulburn, and
local hands were employed to do the quarrying and carrying. The
first pile of the Lime Kiln Creek bridge was driven this morning.
Weather. Dry weather is again settling in and there is a scarcity of
water.

BUNGONIA. ( From Our Correspondent. ) The annual meeting of
the Bungonia and District Progress Association took place at
Frost's Hotel on Saturday last, the president, Mr. G. Broadhead, in
the chair. Mr. J. M. Broadhead, hon. secretary, read the annual
report, extracts from which are appended: -
" We are pleased to state that your association is still in a flourishing
condition. During the past year we were the cause of having estab-
lished a new police station, also a bridge over Limekiln Creek,
together with many other important matters. At the last Goulburn
Show we competed for a £5 prize for a district exhibit, and were
successful ; £4 went to the credit of the association and £1 towards
the expenses of the secretary for the service he had rendered in col-
lecting and arranging the exhibit.
Your association is also credited with bringing about a reform of
the Stock and Pastures Board.
We are also pleased to report that we have purchased an allotment
of land at a cost of £7 and erected a hall thereon. The new hall will
be handed over from the contractors in a few days, and will be
opened on October 25 ( 1907 ) under the name of Progress Asso-
ciation Hall. Our best thanks are due to Mr. D. R. Hall, M.H.R.,
Colonel Ryrie, M.L.A., and Mr. Wm. McCourt, M.L.A., for their
prompt attention to every matter brought before them.
The secretary, treasurer, president, and vice-presidents now retire
according to the rules, and it is your duty to elect officers to fill the
vacancies caused by their retirement. In conclusion, we trust that the
same friendship and good fellowship will always remain in your
association." (Cheers.),
The treasurer ( Mr. T. Cooper ) presented his balance-sheet, which
showed a credit balance of £1 10s after paying all expenses in con-
nection with the association.
The following officers were elected for the coming year:-- G.
Broadhead, president (re-elected); H. L. Broadhead, secretary: T.
Cooper, treasurer (re-elected); R. A. Wood, L. Blake, J. M.
Broadhead, and J. Ryan, vice-presidents; patron, Councillor C. R,.
Styles. All the officers in short speeches returned thanks; and prom-
ised to do all in their power to help the association.
Opening of the New Hall. -- As will be seen by an ad-
vertisement, the new hall will be opened on the 25th instant under
the patronage of Mr. D. R. Hall, M.H.R., and Colonel Ryrie.
M.L.A.
The committee are leaving no stone unturned in making the function
a success, and those who patronise the opening ceremony can rest
assured in getting full value for their money.
Cooper's Hall has been secured in addition to the new hall, where
the catering and all other amusements will be provided. An accom-
modation paddock has been secured for visitors' horses, and eve-
rything is tip-top.
The new hall is now completed, and the Progress Association is to
be congratulated on having a substantial building erected to their
credit. Messrs. Hogan Brothers had the erection of the building,
which is of concrete, Mr. G. Broadhead the wood and carpentry
work, and Mr. W. Millane, of Goulburn, the inside plastering and
fancy work.
110 years later and the Hall has had a few changes with the origi-
nal Hall being extended to the north - making it wider ; a kitchen &
supper room being added on the southern side - which was later
demolished due to wood rot and replaced in 2014 with a larger &
modern kitchen. Toilets & showers were also added and now, in
August 2017, the area under the stage has to be demolished due to
wood rot and rising damp which is making the original wooden
floor unstable. It cost a lot more than £7 to fix these issues.

and could be called upon to provide advanced first aid at roadside collisions and other emergencies in areas where there is no immediate
State ambulance service available or close by.
C.F.R. Members also have a positive working relationship with local Police, Ambulance and other emergency services.
In order to keep this vital C.F.R. Active in this community, further volunteers are urgently required. If you are interested in this line of
activity - please contact Kevin Muffet on 4844 7143 who will be more than glad to explain the processes to you.

Windellama CFR are in desperate need of new members
for their Community First Responders.
These new members would preferably be in their 30’s -
40’s but not necessarily.
Without such Units in our Communities, Emergency
situations would be severely delayed and the CFR mem-
bers are usually the first ones called to an emergency be-
cause of their Senior First Aid Training.
Join the winning team & become a CFR member.
Mick Stil and his brother Nick were travelling to town on the 8 August
when they came across a motor vehicle accident. Now as Mick is a mem-
ber of our SES Community First Responder team he knew exactly what
to do under the circumstances. Mick was aware of the identity of this
young fellow.
He was first on scene, as far as I am aware and his prompt action, as far as
calling triple zero, which then activates all the necessary personnel to re-
spond as is necessary, was paramount. A report of this nature must be as
accurate as is possible. The rescue Helicopter was in attendance in this
case.
The attending Paramedics congratulated him in the professional manner
in which he operated. This does give you a great deal of satisfaction to
have a compliment such as this.
May I say Mick that this is carrying your multi trades service to the ex-
treme. Multi skilling I think, is the word
This area is indeed fortunate to have a team such as ours on call 24 hours a
day. This is a timely reminder to ask some younger people to come and
join the SES team. We have had a few callouts this month.
We now have a tower light added to our range of equipment, this being a
great adjunct to the versatility of our SES unit. The range of soft light
which is emitted from this is truly amazing.
We were fortunate to have a new member sign up with us last meet-
ing.
Our members will be travelling to the Goulburn unit to be given insight
into the new range of Radios to be handed out shortly.
