Story by Suzanne Smith
The Parlor in Bellevue, WA hosted the NWPA’s 5th Tour Stop of 2012 on Aug. 11-12th. We would like to thank our title sponsor Mueller for their continued support. Please support us by supporting them. Mention the NWPA and receive a discount on Mueller merchandise. The Parlor is located at Lincoln Square in beautiful downtown Bellevue. Some upcoming events at the Comedy Club include Rex Navarette 8/30-9/1, and Dat Phan 9/6-8. Other scheduled activities at The Parlor include karaoke on Thursday and UltraDance with DJ Kemal on Saturdays, both starting at 9:30 p.m. Delicious food and drink menus complete the experience, so if you ever have the opportunity to visit, please do… The tournament was run on eleven 9-foot Brunswick Gold Crown IVs with Centennial billiard balls. Rail2Rail Productions provided live streaming for the entire event and a Dave Jones Custom Cue was raffled off. Suzanne Smith ended up winning the cue valued at over $1000. Thanks so much to Dave Jones for supporting the NWPA. Player rewards for the
event included gift cards to The Parlor, Chilis, and Subway, along with NWPA merchandise donated by the tour. Two Canadian players joined the NWPA for their first event, we would love to welcome Val Franiel and Jenny Lucas, eh? Twenty-seven ladies came out to compete on Saturday morning. Very few upsets occurred during Saturday play, other than Kim Jones being defeated in her 3rd round match by Suzanne Smith 7-5. Only twelve players returned on Sunday in the main event. On the A side: Jana Montour vs. Liz Cole and Kimberly Kirk vs. Suzanne Smith. Jana and Kimberly both won their matches by the score of 7-4 and 7-5 to meet up for the hot seat. Jana and Kimberly battled it out for the point, with Jana defeating Kimberly 7-6 to ensure her place in the final. On the B side, only four out of the eight remaining ladies would advance into the money rounds so match play was tough. B side matches included Denice White vs. Kim
Jones, Adrianne Beach vs. Val Franiel, Mary Hopkin vs. Shelby Locati, and Tamre Rogers vs. Alicia Kvasnicka. Kim, Val, Shelby, and Tamre advanced through their first matches by the scores of 6-2, 6-5, 6-2, and 6-3 respectively to square off against each other. Kim and Shelby defeated Val and Tamre, by the same score, 6-3. With two wins each under their belt, Kim and Shelby continued through their next matches defeating Liz and Suzanne, 6-5 and 6-3. Shelby then defeated Kim 6-3 to advance to the semifinal against Kimberly. Yet to reach her first NWPA final, Shelby seemed on a mission going into the semifinal, but Kimberly had other plans in mind, and kept the momentum in her favor, defeating Shelby 6-3. The final was one race to 9, alternating break. Both players were shooting great and exchanged racks through game 12. With the score tied and 6 games each, Jana proceeded to take the next three racks to close out the set and solidify her position on top of the NWPA’s tour standings. With her strong finish, Kimberly moved up into the top 10. Great tournament ladies!

Five ladies came out to play in the free $200 added Second Chance event. With a small number, tournament directors, Chris and Ford, chose to make the tournament a Round Robin format. All entrants would play each other 7 games and high score would take top prize.

Come out if Jana Montour can win her 4th tournament of the season and defend her Queen of the Fleece title. Thanks again to our title sponsor Mueller. If you haven’t had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win one of the several cues or donated to the NWPA, you better hurry. Only two more chances for this year. Contact your favorite lady on tour or please contact [email protected] if you are interested in participation. Other prizes include autographed photos from several pros, Hustlin’ USA apparel, a set of Prestige Billiard balls, a passion party basket, and much, much more. Need not be present to win and tickets are only two for $5, five for $10. Please support the NWPA and our Passion to Play.

This is not a feel good program. This is the real deal. You will be working with the monk for over four months. You will be working step by step to build the skills at nine ball that your opponent does not have. You will master the important moves this game calls for. You will become a master nine ball player and play better nine ball than you have every played this game before.
May all the rolls go your way,
The Monk

QUESTIONNAIREThere is a questionnaire going around these days on what advice would one give to a player who is just starting out in this game. It is important to get off to a right start. The rooms are filled with players who learned some wrong things and are stuck in the same level year after year. You don’t want to be one of these players. In the learning part you need to know a few things. One, you will need to master the four strokes of pool. Without that you have no chance as you will have something missing from your game. You need to learn that the cue ball track line and cue ball speed is determined by the stroke you use. Use the wrong stroke get the wrong position on the next ball. There are four stages we go through as we make our way to the top. We begin this game in the SHOTMAKERS STAGE. Here we learn how to make shots with little regard to position. I spent a year or more in this stage and actually won tournaments as a shot maker. The second stage is the FOUR STROKES OF POOL. Many players skip this stage as they seek to go from the SHOTMAKERS STAGE to the CUE
BALL SPEED STAGE. This is where they flounder year after year at the same level. They are missing the second stage. The third stage is CUE BALL SPEED. Here you learn how to use the stroke to gain position on your next ball. Stroke determines the speed of the cue ball. The fourth stage is MASTERING SELF. Here you master that space between your ears that raises so much hell. It took me a long time to reach a place where I could shoot shots without interference. I have a unique training program that takes you through all four of these stages. Your training must be specific and deliberate. If you are not working on the important parts of skill development you are wasting your time. If you bang balls around with no purpose you become nothing more than a ball banger. The problem with most instructors is that they want to show you the game, how to score, how to win. This is a sport where you need to acquire the skills before you can learn how to win. Building a solid foundation is vital. If you are a plateau player, who has been at the same level for many years go on my web site, www.monkbilliardacademy.net and click on ROAD PLAYERS TRAINING. You will see how it is that you need to build this foundation. You can also call me 1-603-566-6229
