The World’s Preferred Partner for CorrosionResistant Valve SolutionsShipham Valves is one of the longest established and most highly respected valve manufacturers in the
world, with a global reputation for excellence in product design, quality, reliability and the highest levels of
customer service.
Since the 1930s, Shipham Valves has been a key manufacturer of valves for the global naval defence industries. In a market known for its arduous demands for productperformance and reliability, quality assurance, traceability, certification and documentation, we have built an unrivalled reputation for excellence.
We have successfully taken our experience and capabilities into many other areas, including the oil & gas and petrochemical markets. Shipham Valves is now firmlyestablished as a global leader in the design and manufacture of high alloy valve products used in severe service applications handling sea water and other corrosive media.
Shipham’s leadership in the manufacture of valves for corrosive applications was further enhanced in 2008 with the acquisition of Advanced Valve Technologies (AVT).
The AVT Composite range comprises ball, butterfly and wafer check valves manufactured using reinforced composite technology which offers outstanding internal & external corrosion resistance and significant weight savings over equivalent metallic valves.

Reinforced Composite Technology appliedto fluid handling and controlKey benefits of reinforced composites:
Outstanding internal and external corrosion resistance
- eliminating the need for external coatings and protective linings
Up to 60% weight saving
- leading to a very significant reduction of handling, installation and delivery costs
Very low thermal conductivity
- eliminating the need for lagging leading to further cost savings
Reduced torque
- leading to lower costs of actuation
Total lifecycle
- cost savings against metallic valves can be up to 90%
Reliable, short leadtimes
- eliminating project over-runs

Butterfly Valves - Corrosion resistant, highperformance, firesafe API 607 (optional)Double offset seat design and 360° bubble tight
sealing and low operating torque with extended
seat life and up to 60% weight saving versus
metal valves!
Operator Design
Corrosion resistant lightweight, lockable levers with 7 intermediate stops are
standard. Mounting accommodates ISO Standard gear operators and actuators.
Corrosion resistant stem extensions for buried service made to customer
requirements.
Full Flange Face Body
For reduced flange cost, AVT valves do not require the use of heavy duty flanges
when used with GRE pipe systems. They can be used as direct replacements for
metal butterfly valves of a similar specification.
Available with plain holes (for through bolting) or with tapped inserts.
Disc / Seat Design
This disc design takes advantage of the inherent strength of all the resin systems to
limit the overall thickness of the disc, thereby reducing the restriction of flow to a
practical minimum when the valve is fully opened.
The seat is secured to the disc by a moulded retaining plate. Leakage behind the
seat is prevented by a secondary seal moulded on the inside diameter of the seat.
Shaft Assembly
Our unique shaft/disc connection eliminates flutter for improved flow and noise
reduction. Shaft designed as non-wetted, blow out proof.
First Degree Off-Set
The off-set between the seat face and the shaft axis makes the 360° seat
possible ensuring bubble tight sealing even in high cycling applications.
Shafts
Sealed with a multi “O” ring system that ensures long life tight sealing even in high
cycling applications without need for maintenance. Hastelloy® non wetted shaft as
standard, with 316 and Titanium optional.
Second Degree Off-Set
The off-set of the shaft with respect to the axis of the bore combined with the first
degree of off-set ensures that the sector of the seat sealing face is effectively cleared
from contact by a very small angular motion.
The introduction of this second degree of off-set reduces wear and break out
torque.

Wafer Check Valves - Corrosion resistant, two piece, fully composite with integralhinge and no metallic partsOperation
Designed for maximum strength and ruggedness, Shipham AVT check valves are
designed to be gravity operated, although in instances where spring assistance is
required, this can be accommodated using Inconel® X750 springs.
Full Flange Face Body
Shipham AVT Wafer Check Valves have a full face body which is supplied “through
drilled” with clearance holes for bolting. The valve can be used with Metallic or
composite flanges and do not require the use of special heavy duty GRE flanges.
They can be used as a direct replacement for similar valves designed to API 594,
Type A, class 150#. Most flange drilling can be accommodated.
Disc / Seat Design
Designed to have a minimum of parts the Shipham AVT Wafer Check Valve has a
one-piece integral disc and hinge. For general service, the valve will have “hard seat”
(composite to composite sealing) and sealing is to API 598. Where a higher integrity
seal, or where a soft seat is required for quieter operation, this can be
accommodated using elastomer seals.
• 2 Piece design for ease of construction and assembly
• Wafer construction - can easily be assembled in-line, using standard flat-face flanges
• Face to face dimensions comply with API 6D, ASME B16.10, and API 594 (See table for dimensions)

Chemical Resistance GuideShipham Valves’ range of Ball, Butterfly and Wafer
Check Valves are suitable for use in harsh
environments and for the applications as listed
opposite, and up to the maximum recommended
temperatures and pressures.
The guide covers the main chemical resistance properties of the specially formulatedmaterials used in Shipham AVT products (AVT530 and AVT520).
AVT 530 is a specially formulated bisphenol A based aromatic amine cured, glassreinforced Epoxy Resin System with a wide chemical resistance. This material givesthe highest pressure resistance available.
AVT 520 is a specifically formulated modified aromatic amine cured, glass reinforcedNovolac Epoxy Resin System and has an enhanced chemical resistance profile toAVT 530 and with a generally higher temperature range.
This data is based on specific concentrations of chemicals at stated temperaturesand has been extracted from several sources including controlled laboratory tests, field experience and historical performance, chemical structure and supplier’s data.
It should be noted that media containing suspended solids and / or variations fromthe temperature, concentration, or combinations of materials might offer synergisticeffects to the detriment of the valve.
This guide has been developed to assist designers in the application and selection ofcorrosion resistant products manufactured by Shipham AVT. The final determinationof the suitability of any Shipham AVT product for the application under considerationis the sole responsibility of the customer or their advisors.
Where, in the guide, no mention of any specific chemical or combination ofchemicals is made, or where the actual operating conditions of the application are near, at, or in excess of the indicated temperatures or concentrations stated, reference to Shipham AVT, or Shipham AVT’s authorised distributor, isrecommended.
The information provided is believed to be accurate, but it is intended as a guide onlyand reference should always be made to Shipham Valves Technical Department(contact via [email protected] ) for further guidance and for confirmationthat our valves are suitable for the intended purpose, or for applications not listed.
Shipham Valves make no warranties, expressed or implied, and assume no liability inconnection with any use to which it is put.
