From the Principal

Welcome to Week 6, we've now reached the halfway point of the term. I'd like to start by sharing a heartfelt thank you to all those involved in our first ever Creative Arts Festival, our members of our P&C, our school staff and our students, our family members and of course those in the community who arrived to support us and help raise funds for the shade sail over the fixed play equipment.

This week, we'll again play host to dads and those who play this important role in our children’s lives as we have our Father's Day Stall on Thursday and our Father's Day Breakfast on Friday morning.

This week is Miss McKinnon's last week at school before commencing her maternity leave in preparation for the arrival of her bub. Please take the chance to share your best wishes this week. Mr Potts and I are interviewing for her relieving position and we'll announce the successful applicant in next week's newsletter.

Miss Creagan has commenced a new career opportunity as she takes up an Instructional Leader role at Kitchener and Millfield Public Schools. This position is until the end of this year and Mrs Sargent will remain on Kindergarten full time until then ensuring continuity for our students.

Don't forget to put Saturday 8th September on your calendar for our working bee. We'll be fixing a few bumps and lumps in our playground, putting rubber onto our cricket practice nets and doing some gardening. Please come along for a while or a short time. All hands will be needed.

Canteen Volunteers Urgently Needed

Our canteen currently operates with the help of seven volunteers. Due to the changing circumstances of some of our volunteers, we are now very short staffed. To enable us to keep operating our canteen five days a week we desperately need new volunteers. We have vacancies on Tuesday/Thursday/Friday and any assistance would be appreciated whether that be a full day/half day or afternoon. Please see Kaye or Liane at the school canteen if you are able to help. Full training will be given!

Book Week Thank you very much. What a fantastic Book Week we have had for 2018! The students had great fun at our Book Parade. Everyone was really impressed with the wonderful costumes the students and teachers wore on Thursday. Well done to all that helped create them! It really was wonderful to see so many treasured book characters celebrated! The students have been exploring all the books on the CBCA’s shortlist over the last few weeks, you can learn more about them at www.cbca.org.au. Thank you very much for your support of our Book Fair. The commission raised from purchases will help us build upon our wonderful Library collection. Some of the new books purchased might just become someone’s next ‘treasure’! Premier’s Reading Challenge Don’t stop logging in your books for the Premiers Reading Challenge! The closing date is this Friday 31st August. Congratulations to those students already finished. It is great to see those students wear their badges, to show they have finished, with great pride. Author Visit We are very excited to see Michael Salmon at our school on 4th September. The closing date for notes and money is Friday 31st August. Happy Reading Mrs Powell

Stage 1 Newsletter

Last week we all enjoyed participating in the Book Week activities. It was great fun dressing up as our favourite book character.

In Week 4 we launched our real project. We will be learning about farms, where our food comes from, lifecycles, seasons and how we could help people in other countries.

We have all been working hard to make our treasures, to sell at our Creative Arts Festival. Year 1 made chicken sounds from a cup and bird houses. Year 2 made Christmas cards and paper bowls.

We have lots of fun in Stage One!
