Was the first artificial satellite in space The signal lasted 22 days in space The diameter of Sputnik 1 was 23 in It weighed 185 lb First satellite to orbit earth Proved that something can get a signal in

space

Was from the Soviet Union

Orbited Earth for 108 minutes

On his way down back to Earth he ejected himself from the aircraft at 7,000 feet and parachuted down.

Proved that a man could live in space

This was a major break through considering that if we could not live in space we would be limited to the extent of our knowledge on space

The first known telescopes were invented in the Netherlands at the beginning of the 17th century

There are Optical telescopes, Radio telescopes, X-ray telescopes, Gamma-ray telescopes, and High energy particle telescopes

Are used to spot objects that are long distances away and prove theory's on the universe

The Kepler space telescope found a new solar system that has a planet that might be able to sustain life for us on it.

Without the help of telescopes we might still believe the Ptolemy Theory which states that earth is the center of the universe

Was created to explore mars

The cost to run the first mission with the mars rover was 820 million dollars

There were four more missions that the mars rover went on that totaled a cost of 104 million dollars

There is a new rover that will be sent to mars and the cost is up to 2.5 billon dollars already

This new mars rover might prove to find life on mars or a hidden water supply that could prove to be helpful in the future.

The Colombia space shuttle completed 27 missions

On its 28 mission when on reentry it fell from the sky and all 7 passengers were killed

The crash was on February 1st2003

After the crash NASA retired the space shuttle

I believe that in the near future there will be a breakthrough and we will be able to go father distances in faster time which will expand our knowledge of space

Page 7: Technology that advanced our knowledge about space

I believe that there will be a major break through and regular people willbe able to travel into space within 50 years and our missions will be reaching father out maybe even to Jupiter andbeyond.
