Why choose us? Top quality degrees from the University of Bath and Oxford Brookes University Our Degrees and Foundation Degrees are awarded by our university partners, meaning you study in Swindon but your qualification is with them. We also work with Edexcel, AAT, City & Guilds and VTCT as awarding bodies.

Affordable qualifications with no upfront costsOur HE programmes entitle you to a student loan or 24 + Advanced Learning Loan which you only start to pay back when you are earning over £21,000 per year (see page 12 for more details). Also, our degree fees are considerably cheaper than those you would pay at university.

Small groups with dedicated tutorsAllowing individual support and high levels of success.

Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Impartial advice and support with careers and job-seeking.

Degrees on your doorstepWhile we welcome students from all over the world many of our HE students every year are from the local region. It makes economic sense to combine university-level study with home and/or work commitments.

Employability skillsNot only will you gain a university degree or higher level award, but you will improve your skills in communication, presentation, IT & literacy, all of which improve your chances of gaining employment or promotion within your existing employment after study.

Qualifications designed with employment in mindMany of our programmes link learning directly to the workplace either for those already in employment or through placement opportunities to gain direct experience. You may also work on a ‘live brief’ as part of your assessment, which will be written with local businesses to give you real experience of the projects you might undertake in that sector or industry.

What is higher education? University Level Guide | 2015/16

Telephone: (01793) 491591 | email [email protected]

Higher education encompasses a diverse range of courses and qualifications such as Masters and Honours degrees, Foundation degrees, Higher National Diplomas and Certificates as well as professional qualifications.

The term ‘higher education’ includes all university-level education at Level 4 or above and involves studying for a degree or similar advanced qualification. All courses at Level 3 or below are classed as further education. Higher education is open to students usually aged over 18 – there is no upper age limit!

Higher Education: • Will improve your career and earning potential, as well as allow you to gain specialist knowledge in an area which really interests you.

• Can offer a vocational programme that is directly related to particular work areas such as accountancy, sports science or teaching.

• Is essential for some careers, for example chartered engineering and architecture.

• Will bring together students from a variety of backgrounds. This interaction can enrich the learning process through sharing experience and knowledge.

Swindon CollegeSwindon College is one of the largest higher education providers in Wiltshire and has successfully been delivering higher education qualifications in Swindon since 1904.

Assured qualityThe latest review by the Quality Assurance Agency of the College’s HE provision had an excellent outcome, showing full confidence in the College’s academic standards and quality of learning opportunities. The report also noted many areas of good practice.

The Centre has a 42” plasma TV in the chill-out area with comfy sofas and chairs to relax, a seating area with vending machines for food and drink, an internet café style-area with PCs, plus an adjoining computer suite.

UCASHow does it work? UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) centrally manages full time applications to higher education institutions in the UK.

Application DeadlinesPlease check the UCAS website for the application deadline for applying for a course starting September 2015 at www.ucas.com.

Part Time CoursesFor part time courses, please directly apply to Student Services at Swindon College.

Postgraduate CoursesApplications for Masters Degrees should be made through UKPASS (www.ukpass.ac.uk), the postgraduate application service also run by UCAS. Our postgraduate courses are listed under Oxford Brookes University.

Remember that it is important to do your research before applying to Higher Education. Make sure that you meet the entry requirements of your chosen course and that you have visited the institution to make sure you feel comfortable before accepting an offer.

February-JulyResearch

Make sure you research your options carefully. Try and visit university and college Open Days which will help you decide what and where you would really like to study. Also ensure you can meet the entry requirements.

September-January Applying

Applications are made to UCAS during this period and are submitted online. The Swindon College IAG Team will help you with your application and with writing your personal statement, which is the most important part.

Mid-October This is the deadline for applications to Oxford, Cambridge and all Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary choices (but not Nursing).

Mid-December By this time you should have paid your fee to UCAS and submitted your finished application to the IAG Team at Swindon College. This allows four weeks for us to check your application and to write your reference. Although this is not the deadline, the sooner you can get your application in the better!

Mid-January This is the deadline for UCAS to receive your application. If you have applied via the IAG Team by the mid-December deadline, they will send your application off for you to meet this deadline. You should apply for your Student Loan as soon as the process opens in January. Don’t wait until you have received any offers as this could delay your Loans. There are two available, one to pay your Tuition Fee and one to help with living expenses while you are studying. Visit www.gov.uk/studentfinance for more information.

January-MayOffers and Acceptance

This is when universities and colleges will make decisions on applications and send out offers to applicants. When you have received all of your offers, you will need to make one of them your Firm Offer (the one you most want) and make one an Insurance Offer (a back-up choice in case you don’t meet the requirements for your Firm Offer). Don’t miss the date to respond or your choices will be cancelled. It is also important during this time to find out about any financial assistance which might be available to you as a student. This includes bursaries, which are grants from your university or college which don’t have to be paid back.

July-AugustResults

BTEC results start to be sent out in mid-July and A Level results are released inmid-August. If you receive your results and they meet the conditions of your Firm Choice then you don’t need to do anything else, your place is secured. If you aren’t going to meet the conditions of your Firm or Insurance Offers it’s still worth contacting them if you were close to the offer grade and asking if they will still accept you. If you weren’t holding any offers, you have the option of entering Clearing. This is the process where students are matched with institutions who still have places remaining, see www.ucas.com for more information.

Study now, pay later• You don’t have to pay for your course upfront • You can get a loan to cover the cost of your tuition fee, which you only start to pay back when you are earning over £21,000 per year• You repay 9% of your income above £21,000 only. So, for example, if your salary was £25,000, the 9% would only apply to £4,000, meaning you would repay £30 per month• If your salary falls below £21,000 – for example if you take a career break or are unemployed – your repayments stop. Repayments only start again when you are earning over £21,000 again• If you have not repaid your loan after 30 years it is written off.

Financial Information If you are a new student you need to visit the Student Finance government web site:www.gov.uk/student-finance/loans-and-grants. This web site is also the best source of information for all student finance enquiries.

Please contact Student Services for our up-to-date tuition fee information on: Freephone 0800 731 2250 or email: [email protected].

Full Time StudentsIf you’re studying full time, the main sources of help are:• Student loans and grants from the government - Eligible students can get help with tuition fees and living costs through student loans• Bursaries (which don’t have to be paid back) from your university or college.

To be eligible for a student loan you must be a UK passport holder, residing in the UK for more than 3 years and not have studied at the same level in Higher Education before.

You’ll be able to take out two student loans per academic year:• A Tuition Fee Loan - to cover your annual tuition fees in full• A Maintenance Loan - to help with accommodation and other living costs (how much you get will depend on your household income). When you are assessed for your fees you are automatically assessed for a Student Loan. If you are paying your own tuition fees, an instalment plan can be arranged by contacting Swindon College Student Finance on Tel: (01793) 498338 or email: [email protected].

Some courses are not covered by Student Loans. You can apply for a 24 + Advanced Learning Loan to cover the course fees for these courses.

The day is formal but enjoyable and students process through the town in gowns and mortar boards to the ceremony in a local church. What is Access to Higher Education? The Access to Higher Education course is for adults over the age of 19 years who would like to progress on to degree level courses but do not have the academic qualifications required. Successful completion of the course will provide you with a qualification that is nationally recognised by universities as an entry route into Higher Education. The course also helps you build on your past experiences and develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to study at degree or diploma level at college or university.

About the course:The content of the course will be matched as closely as possible to the HE route you wish to pursue. You will work towards credits and levels to reach the learner achievement standards set across all Open College Network, Oxford, Thames and Chiltern (OCNOTC) accredited programmes.

Assessment:Your progress is monitored by assessment throughout the year.

Assessments vary and will include short and long essays, reports,

project work, posters, presentations, individual research and group

work. Students are encouraged to evaluate themselves and their

progress and to participate in discussions with fellow students.

Assessment is built around achieving credits at different levels

within the units, which make up each module or subject. Students

must achieve at least 60 credits, of which 45 must be at Level 3 in

order to achieve the Access Diploma.

This course can be studied over one year. You will have the same

holidays as schools when you study this course. Upon completion,

Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) recognised Diploma and

OCNOTC credits are awarded.

Course Cost:Fees, which include tuition and entry to examinations, are reviewed

annually. Please contact Student Services for current details.

Entry Requirements:Candidates will be over the age of 19 with few or no academic

qualifications, or have not studied for several years but wish to

proceed to university or professional training. The Access

CASE STUDY Access | Grace Davis

“I was working part time as a Sales Assistant and looking after my young son, before I started studying at Swindon College. I’d had good recommendations about the college from friends and family, so joined the Access to HE Art and Design course with a view to studying Fashion and Textiles. My mum is a dress maker in Africa; I’ve always been inspired by how she can measure, cut fabrics and create dresses for her customers.

My course fits well around my young family as my son is able to attend the on-site nursery while I am in college, which is really useful. Once I complete the Access course I plan to stay at Swindon College to study for an HND in Fashion & Textiles. Once I graduate, I’d really like to find work in the Fashion and Clothing industry. ”

“Prior to studying at Swindon College, I achieved A Level Fine Art at Ridgeway School Sixth Form. My sister had been on the Foundation Art course a few years earlier so I knew it was a good course and Swindon College was local to me with easy travel links so it was an obvious choice. The course has been intense but good fun; I’m really enjoying working with new materials and design techniques.

The tutors are really enthusiastic and encourage your personaldevelopment. We have set teaching hours but we’re still able to come into college outside of those hours or take work home.

“I’m going to go to university on completion of the course and have been accepted into the Falmouth School of Art to study for a Contemporary Crafts degree, which I’m really excited about.”

CASE STUDY HND Photography | Keith Hursthouse

“I was a professional Journalist before starting the HND Photography course, unfortunately I was made redundant, I took this as an opportunity to pursue a dream I’d always had. HND Photography isn’t available at very many institutions in the region; I felt Swindon College took my enquiries seriously, they allowed me to have a tour of the facilities and chat to the course leader before applying.

The course couldn’t be going any better for me, I’ve really been able to learn and develop my skills and the teaching staff are great, with a wide range of expertise.

One of my concerns before coming to college was being an older student amongst 16 to 18 year olds but the atmosphere here is great and my whole class gets along really well.

I’m still able to do freelance work as a sub-editor, which has worked around my course nicely. Once I finish this course, I’m going to university to top-up to a degree, and then will hopefully set up my own photography business afterwards.”

CASE STUDY HND Media Make-up | Leah Toomey

“I left school in Kent at 16 and came straight to Swindon College after researching courses on make-up artistry; the media make-up course at Swindon College has a great reputation. I started on the BTEC National Diploma, which went really well, so I decided to stay on for the HND level.

The course covers so much, we do hairdressing, wig making, make-up and body painting. I’ve learnt so much through the brilliant tutors; the course is really interactive and fun. I’m really looking forward to the end of year show, where we get the opportunity to show off all of the skills and techniques we’ve learnt. It’s great for family, friends and the public to come along and see why we all love the course so much. Due to the tutors working as freelance Make-up Artists we get really good work experience.

I hope to go to Southampton University to top up to a BA (Hons) degree when I finish the HND course and eventually I’d like to dofashion and editorial work. I’d really recommend this course at Swindon College, the whole 4 years have been amazing.”

CASE STUDY Creative Arts & Practice | Sean Benny

“Before coming to Swindon College I completed my A Levels at a local sixth form, this route wasn’t for me and my art teacher recommended the Art Foundation Diploma course at Swindon College, so I enrolled straightaway. I really enjoyed this course so decided to stay at Swindon College for the Foundation Degree in Creative Art & Design. The Foundation Degree includes a broad spectrum of art practises which vary from life drawing to ceramics and much more.

Going from the Diploma to the Foundation Degree was a big jump but the tutors are always around when you need them; they are all practising artist with lots of experience which really helps.

The one-to-one support I’ve experienced at Swindon College has been better than any other place I’ve studied. The facilities here are really good; the library is full of art resources and the HE room is a great place to go, away from younger students.

I’d like to top up my degree to a full BA (Hons) once the course is finished. I would recommend Swindon College as the class sizes are smaller; this means you are able to get more time with the lecturers.”

CASE STUDY BA (Hons) Graphic Design | Laurie Kyle

“Before I started at Swindon College I was studying Foundation Art & Design and Graphic Design at another local college. I decided to come to Swindon College rather than start full-time work at my retail job as I’d always been creative and wanted to do something that suited me better.

I feel like I’m getting on really well with my course, I’m really enjoying it and everyone at the college is so friendly. If you live local you can study for a degree, whilst living at home with your family without the worry of rented student accommodation. I have a part time job in retail and this fits well around my course as I’m only in college a few hours a day.

Once the course has finished I hope to find a job in Graphic Design; some of the clients we’ve worked with during the course have offered internships. I would definitely recommend Swindon College; there are so many advantages and benefits for the students here.”

CASE STUDY Illustration (Sequential and Narrative) | Mel Gannon

“I studied a two year foundation course at Oxford Brookes, before starting Swindon College and had been doing some teaching prior to that. I knew I wanted to study narrative illustration, and Swindon College was the only institution to offer this particular course. I love the course and will be very sad to leave when it finishes. The tutors are all excellent and all practitioners of their specialist subjects. Swindon College has everything you might need on campus, like the library and the HE quiet room.

There is a real mix of people here, from 16 up to all ages, which is great. Although I’m only timetabled to be in college for two days a week, I chose to dedicate a lot more time to my studies, in order to get the best out of the course. Hopefully I’ll be able to carry on printing once the course is complete, along with exhibiting and writing and illustrating my own books. Swindon College has brilliant facilities; to have access to a print room, photography studio and Mac suite really helps.”

Entry Requirements:Successful applicants will normally have a good honours degree in Fine Art. Applicants with qualifications in related disciplines and those without formal academic qualifications might also be considered, providing they can provide evidence of relevant experience and a level of work appropriate to the academic demands of the programme. Candidates will be selected after presentation of a portfolio at interview, and admissions tutors will decide selection on the basis of the candidate’s ability to benefit from the programme.

Applicants must be able to prove an academic fluency with the English language. This will normally be acquisition of a recognised EFL qualification for overseas candidates.

Course Information:The programme aims to make a contribution to the strengthening position of Fine Art Drawing as a major component of visual art production, promoting the language of drawing as a broad, experimental code that underpins so much of contemporary Fine Art practice and research. Students will be invited to re-evaluate their practice through studio investigation and critical analysis, considering the context in which the work is made and how the work operates both conceptually and contextually.

The nature of research will focus on individual study proposals and studio practice, and will invite investigation into the boundaries between drawing and a broad range of Fine Art disciplines from traditional works on paper to painting, printmaking, three-dimensional or combined media work and digital technologies. Study will culminate in a major body of work at the MA end of year show.

CASE STUDY MA Fine Art | Beatrice Markopoulou

“After achieving a Bachelor’s Degree at The University of Sydney, Australia and three years studying at an artist-run private institution; I chose MA: Fine Art as it was a subject I had not tried before.

Swindon College offered the course content I wanted and the experience of living in a smaller town. It’s really handy to have use of the studio and library at the college; all of the resources here are good. Studying at a smaller institution, the lecturers are very attentive and are able to push you to your full potential. When I complete my course I would like to do another MA or apply for artist residencies throughout the UK. Swindon College is really helpful towards regaining focus within art practice.”

CASE STUDY Advanced Beauty Therapy | Ray Sainsbury

“I left school after completing my GCSEs and started Level 1 Hairdressing. I didn’t feel like the course was for me, so went on to do the Level 2 Beauty Therapy which went well and really boosted my confidence. By the time I’d finished Level 2 I knew Beauty Therapy was what I wanted to carry on doing so moved on to the Level 3, then moved up to the Level 4. I’d heard really good things about Level 4 from friends who had already completed it so I was really excited to start.

This course will give me more opportunities due to having a wider skills base and will make me more employable. The tutors here are really nice, they’ll help you and support you if there is anything that you don’t understand and take time out to explain everything clearly.

When the course started we were able to practise treatments on each other to build confidence before the paying clients come in. It’s a really professional environment but clients are understanding if you’re nervous. Once I’m qualified I’d like to work for a laser clinic and work my way up to management. In the future I’d like to own my own salon.

Swindon College is a really safe and comfortable place to be, I’ll be really sad to leave.”

CASE STUDY AAT Level 4 Accounting | Gill Parish

“When I returned to work after having my children, I started in a Secretarial role and quickly realised my earning potential would be greater if I returned to training. I was really interested in the AAT so researched all of the options available to me, including distance learning, but decided the face-to-face learning approach would work better for me.

I started the AAT on an Apprenticeship at Level 2 and progressed onto Level 3, then Level 4. Now I have achieved my Level 4 AAT, I feel really good about myself and my employability potential; the course has definitely benefited me as I now have a new role within a Finance department.

Throughout the course we were able to contact our lecturer for advice, and everybody on the course was able to help and inspire each other during lessons.

I would thoroughly recommend Swindon College.”Telephone: (01793) 491591 | email [email protected]

“I previously studied A Levels at another college, then came to Swindon College to study a Foundation Degree as it is local to me and was recommended by a family member. The fees are cheaper at Swindon College than if I were to go away to University.

I’m getting on really well in my course; achieving firsts in everything so far. I manage to fit my course around other commitments by planning and staying organised; I only work a few days a week, so I have plenty of extra time for revision and coursework.

CASE STUDY HNC Construction | Amy Blanchflower

“I studied at Basingstoke College, and then went on to achieve a 2:1 degree in Business Studies at Kingston University, London. I then found a job in Highways Construction and fell in love with this industry. However, there was no opportunity for progression in the role. I then moved onto my current workplace who were keen to put me on the HNC Construction course at Swindon College.

Initially I was shocked to be the only female on my course, but as a class we get along really well, being the only female in a male dominated industry spurs me on to work harder.

I’m able to take what I learn from my course and implement it into my job role. After finishing my degree, I’d like to do a top-up degree and progress to a Chartered Surveyor – I’m lucky to have found a job I really enjoy.”

CASE STUDY HNC Civil Engineering | Sarah Matthews

“I’ve always had an interest in buildings but wasn’t sure what I could do with it so I ended up studying Fine Art upon leaving school. When my son went off to university, I took the opportunity to do something for myself and enrolled on the HNC Civil Engineering course. Initially I was nervous about the maths and physics side of the course, as were many other class members but it has actually been absolutely fine.

The tutors are very supportive and have dispelled any fears we’ve had; they have a lot of experience from the industry, so they are able to bring us up-to-date information as to what we may find whilst working in Engineering.

The course has been better than I had expected and the facilities are great here; it’s a very comfortable environment to study in.I’d love to work in the industry once my course is finished and get some more experience, in order to find an area of interest in the broad engineering field.”

CASE STUDY PGCE | Louisa Watts

“I’m completely retraining, having moved from an academic career in science to teaching literacy and numeracy to adults, and Swindon College offered the best course in the area. I have a degree in Chemistry and an MA and Phd in Oceanography. I spent many years in a research environment, which led me to teach adults at the Open University, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

“I feel passionate about teaching adults and wanted to do a course that would stimulate and challenge me; I can honestly say I absolutely love the course, I find it fascinating. The teaching at Swindon College is second-to-none; I’ve never experienced teaching of this quality before. I have also had the opportunity to study with peers from diverse teaching backgrounds, such as: dance, sport, engineering and the RAF.

“I’m currently teaching Functional Skills in Maths and English and I hope I can continue in this area on completion of the course. It’s rewarding to see adults gaining confidence in their own skills and abilities. As a mature student, this is the perfect setting; the college feels safe, it’s bright and clean with fantastic staff and facilities.”

CASE STUDY Health & Social Care | Charles Clemow

“I left school at 18 with two A Levels and went on to work in the care service, it was here that I realised I wanted to further my education. I found the Health and Social Care course and applied through Oxford Brookes University. I chose this course specifically because I can fit it around my job as I’m only on campus one day a week; I’m very lucky that my employer supports me by allowing day release for lectures. There is a diverse range of people on the course; there are 13 of us and we’re constantly learning from each other. The lecturers are absolutely fantastic with very different backgrounds so we get a really good mix of tuition.

When I first came to Swindon College I was re-assessed for dyslexia and was diagnosed very quickly; this was funded by the college and within days I was lent a laptop with specialist software, which really helped me out. The support structure at Swindon College has been absolutely amazing.

The course has given me lots of career options and the option to do a third year top-up, if I wish.

CASE STUDY Support for Learning | Andrew Hughes

“I worked as a Health, Safety and Environment Officer, during my role here I completed my PTLLS qualification to allow me to deliver Health & Safety Training. Shortly after this my wife became ill and sadly passed away, this meant I had to give up my job to care for our two year old daughter. I wanted to find a job that I could balance with childcare, so took a role in a school.

The Foundation Degree is split into two sections: work experience in school and lectures at college. I find the facilities at college excellent and often use the HE Centre, which has a quiet room with computers always available. All of the tutors I’ve had are excellent, they’re always happy to help with any problems you may have.

On completion of my Foundation Degree I’d like to get a role as a Teaching Assistant to gain more experience.

I would definitely recommend Swindon College to others, the facilities and tutors have been excellent.”Telephone: (01793) 491591 | email [email protected]

CASE STUDY Foundation Degree Early Years | Leanne Lloyd

“I left school at 16 and went on to do Level 2 Childcare; I then started my first job in a day nursery. I completed the Level 3 course whilst working at this nursery full time and wanted to progress further afterwards which led me to the Foundation Degree in Early Years.

My employer is very supportive and they allow me to change my hours in order to come into college for one afternoon each week. I now have 9 years of experience in childcare which has helped to build my confidence and I’m able to share these experiences with others on the course.

The staff at Swindon College are fantastic and are always around to offer support whenever you may need it.

At the moment I’m a Room Leader, but I hope to become a Manager in the nursery I work for and at a later date I’d like to manage my own nursery.

I’d recommend the Foundation Degree to those looking to further their career within childcare.”

However, a progression for EYT validation is organised with a separate provider, and

students who have achieved the degree will be eligible to enlist on one of the shorter

validation pathways. Students interested in the EYT should note that they will need

GCSE (or equivalent) English and maths at grades A-C.

PGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education) Students wishing to continue to

teacher training should note that GCSE (or equivalent) English, maths and science at

grades A-C are required.

CASE STUDY Early Childhood Studies | Karen Parker

“I used to work as a Midday Supervisor at a primary school, before moving into a Teaching Assistant role. I am now a full time Childminder. I decided to do an NVQ Level 3 to improve my working practise and after a year out I came back to college to do the Early Years Foundation Degree, which I graduated from last year. I am now enrolled on the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies degree.

I enjoy studying and am motivated by improving the care I offer and building my knowledge for the children I look after, and for their parents. The lecturers at Swindon College are very friendly, supportive and knowledgeable; the facilities are constantly improving and this is a nice place to come to study.

I like to make use of the HE Centre, it’s great to be able to work independently and quietly, but still be on campus and close to resources. I’d like to go on to work with special needs children or do a teaching qualification upon completing my degree. I would recommend Swindon College; I started by studying for an NVQ and have since worked up to degree level.”

CASE STUDY Education and Lifelong Learning | Michelle Liddiard

“I started studying at Swindon College at Level 2 and progressed through the levels to the Foundation Degree and on to BA (Hons) Education & Lifelong Learning, which felt like a natural progression due to the positive experience I’d already had at the college. Swindon College is really close to where I live and work which is convenient for travel and financially.

I really love the course, it is hard work and does take a lot of commitment but I can’t believe how quickly it’s gone; it’s been really enjoyable and everybody else on the course is so friendly. I couldn’t ask for more support from tutors, they are available to email at all times.

I really like the facilities at Swindon College, everything is always really clean and the coffee shop is fantastic. There’s a lovely atmosphere in college, I was afraid that there may be a lot of younger learners here but it’s so mixed and everybody really gets along. I have to plan carefully as I do work full time and have my own family but my tutors have really helped me to plan a study timetable, which works really well.

I definitely want to go into teaching once the course finishes. I’ve worked in both primary schools and with secondary school children and have enjoyed both, so I’m really open to what age group I’d go into.I have already recommended Swindon College to other people; I’ve had such a positive experience here which I think is down to the support that I’ve been given and the great atmosphere on campus.”

CASE STUDY Sports Therapy | Charlotte Levick

“Before starting Swindon College I was at a local sixth form studying Double BTEC Sports and ICT. I found the Foundation Degree though UCAS and had some good recommendations from people I knew that had been to Swindon College.

It’s cheaper for me to commute to Swindon three days a week, than it would be to go away for university. We get a lot more time with lecturers studying at a college, than we would going to a university.

I’m constantly improving whilst doing the course and really enjoying taking part in the practical side of the course; the tutors are amazing, they make lessons, resources and presentations available to us online. We hold a clinic on campus once a week, where we are able to treat real clients, supervised by a tutor or third year student. I hope to stay on to complete the BSc; everyone is really friendly at Swindon College.”

CASE STUDY Sports Therapy BSc (Hons) | Will Hibbert

“Before starting the BSc Sports Therapy course I completed the BTEC National Diploma in Sport. I then went travelling for a year; when I returned I enrolled on the Foundation Degree in Sports Therapy and I’m now in my third year studying for the BSc in Sports Therapy. I chose this course as I have a keen interest in sport and the degree is awarded by Bath University.

“The course is brilliant, especially the practical elements; we’re able to use the facilities of the Oasis Leisure Centre and we have our own Sports Therapy clinic on campus, which gives us the opportunity to treat real clients. The small class sizes at Swindon College also mean you get a lot of interaction time with the lecturers.

“As part of my work experience, I had the opportunity to work with Carl Todd, the Chelsea and England Osteopath which was really inspirational. The course has definitely boosted my confidence; I feel I will be ready to find employment as a Sports Therapist once I graduate.”
