Summer Term Week 2
(Week A)
BSME Bonanza!
Wonderful Art!
Back into the Swing;
Feeling Sunny!
In pursuit of excellence!
Brighton College Abu Dhabi had the privilege of
hosting the 2016 BSME Music Festival. The weekend
was full of rehearsals, making new friendships and
performing to a great audience. A wonderful
weekend with many great memories made.
Here at Brighton College, we believe that a balanced, inspiring curriculum
allows all of our pupils to flourish in many, if not all, areas within their
studies. It is integral to our ethos that subjects are interspersed and
entwined with each other. The recent Prep School exhibition was a
collaboration between the Art department and Mrs Robitaille’s vision to
showcase what our pupils do best.
The themes within Art for each year group were discussed and broadly set
to be inclusive of every department in the school: Scale, Opposites,
Contrasts, Texture and Pattern. These trigger words were projected on to
every department within the school, with the intention to collate a cross-
curricular exhibition.
The exhibition has been a huge success; from scaled matchbox still life
paintings, nestled against models of The Titanic with beautiful writing
about the survivors from the events of 1912, to the Arabic department’s
exquisite calligraphy using extracts from the Quran about the scales of
humanity – it was a celebration of diversity.
The entire exhibition is a visual delight to the senses and will be on show in
the gallery for a further two weeks - if you have not seen it, please do take
the time to explore how diverse our curriculum can be.

This week we have continued to consider what it would be like to be
an evacuee during WW2. We used our amazing language skills to write
some fabulous poems. In our poems we tried to put ourselves in the
shoes of being an evacuee and describe the sights, sounds and smells.
We also used oil pastels to create some wonderful Blitz scenes.
Well done to all of our shining stars – keep up the hard
work!

Going the Extra Mile
Congratulations to everyone who received their ‘Gold MySticker’ this
week for ‘going the extra mile’.
This achievement recognises pupils who have produced extra work or
who have committed time and effort above our usual range of
expectations.
It was particularly pleasing to see so many Hosn pupils receiving the
accolade this week during the Whole School Assembly, immediately
before Hosn was announced as the winner of the MyStickers
Housepoints this week! Keep it going!
Emma Nemeth (3 Palm) has been dancing her way to success
once more, competing in the O'MORDHA International Irish
Dance Competition (feis) in Manchester, England, recently and
her results were astounding!
Amidst stiff competition from dancers all over the world,
Emma won in every dance category in her age group! Her
prizes were:
• 2 gold medals
• 2 silver medals
• 1 bronze medal
• 1 premiership gold trophy for light shoes dancing
• 1 premiership bronze trophy for heavy shoe dancing
These impressive results have enabled Emma to qualify to the
next level in every dance choreography. Please enjoy the
photographs that follow the highlights of Emma’s success.
Well done Emma –
the whole House is
proud of you!
We welcome back Xavier and Sebastian Sawaqed who have
popped into school this week to reunite with their friends. We
hope they are enjoying life back in Australia and it has been
great to see them again!
WELCOME BACK!
It is very pleasing to
announce that Hamda Al
Nahyan and Shefaa Al Ali
have progressed to the final
of the Qur’an competition
between Brighton College
and Brighton Al Ain which
will take place on April 28th.
This is a great achievement and we wish
them the best of success – good luck!
BOARD GAMES FOR HOUSE
ROOM
The weather is set to become hotter
over the next weeks and we are
looking for ways to entertain the
pupils during break-times when it
becomes too hot to go outside. If you
have any board games which you are
willing to donate to the Bithna House
Room then please do email Mr Scott
(Bithna HMM):
BSME MUSIC
Lilia Gauthier In Year 5 performed in the recent BSME
Music Weekend at Brighton College playing the violin.
She is an excellent violinist and played some lovely
music pieces alongside the rest of the Orchestra.
We always knew that Fujairah pupils were exceptionally
talented. At the Prep School Art Exhibition on Monday, we
were lucky enough to have had another opportunity to see
their wonderful talent on display. Here are a few examples
of what we were able to marvel at:
Well done all! Fujairah is very proud!

Week 3 (Week B) Summer Term 2016
Our Prep School exhibition, “Creativity across the Curriculum” was launched this week and is definitely worth a look if you have not already seen it. The work on show will really give you a window into the amazing work that your children do at school and the large variety of skills they are learning in all areas of the curriculum. We were not only treated to a visual feast but also had the pleasure of the fabulous sounds of our Prep School choir. It was a lovely event and I would like to thank all those who joined us for coming along to support. Thanks also to the Art Department for pulling it all together but most of all for inspiring us to be creative in whatever we are doing. The next few weeks will be very busy so please watch out for all of the special events that will be happening across the school - starting with our first ‘World Cup’ tournament of the year tomorrow with Years 3 and 4.

Water bottles – it is apparent that quite a lot of the children are not bringing water bottles to school; as the weather heats up, this become increasingly important so that our children remain hydrated.
