lOuIs JOhns | VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHTCamel Clay Parks & Recreation is a wonderful place to go! The staff are amazing and nice people! The volunteers are so amazing and helpful with the patrons its crazy how much they love to help out just for fun! And the patrons here are so nice and so respectful you start to make friends right away! Another great aspect of CCPR is that they have zero tolerance! Which means that no child/adult will ever get bullied and if they do they will be handled according. So if you have a child/adult with disabilities, bring them down here and watch the happiness in their eyes! As a volunteer at CCPR I see this every time I volunteer and each time I see that fun and joy theyre having it makes me feel so happy and honored to volunteer here! So come on down to CCPR and have some fun, relax, and watch your family have a wonderful time theyll wont want to leave and theyll be begging for you to take them back!

What is Playback exactly? Playback is a form of improvisational theatre where audience members tell personal stories and the troupe of actors "play it back" on the spot. Our troupe includes both those with and without disabilities. Performance themes will be focused around community interests.

Why did Carmel Clay Parks & recreation decide to launch an Inclusive Playback troupe? "We believe that all individuals have stories to share that will impact their world," said Michelle Yadon, Inclusion Supervisor.

I'm interested. When are the next auditions? Check back at carmelclayparks.com or email Michelle at [email protected]. A date is not yet set for 2015 auditions. We look for creative, supporting, caring, and spontaneous individuals. Previous experience in the disability field or acting is not required.

how can you help? We are currently looking for funding and sponsors to offset the startup costs of this troupe. Interested parties should contact Lindsay at [email protected].

carmel clay Parks & recreation has the only Inclusive Playback

    troupe in the united states

    Did You Know?

Come check out the roundabout Playback Troupe's first performance March 27 at 7pm at the Monon Community Center. Free admission.

Donations will be accepted to help offset start-up costs for the troupe.

Parks and recreation in Carmel and throughout the United States helps address some of our nations toughest challenges like obesity and environmental sustainability. Because parks serve as gateways to healthy, prosperous, and connected communities, Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation has joined the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to promote NRPAs Three Pillars of Conservation, Health and Wellness, and Social Equity.

conservation - Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation plays a critical role in providing and preserving open spaces throughout the community. In fact, 65% of the park system is preserved in a natural state. Carmel has the first park system in the state to be certified as wildlife friendly by the Indiana Wildlife Federation. Natural resource management plans have been developed for each park to create a viable and sustainable system for wildlife and their disappearing habitats.

health and Wellness - Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation helps contribute to the wellbeing of our residents by providing healthy and enjoyable outlets to remain active. With nearly 22 miles of park trails to the wide variety of fitness classes offered each year, we provide great opportunities to enhance quality of life. Based on a recent survey, one out of every two households in Carmel validated that parks and recreation improves health and wellness.

social equity - Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation is dedicated to providing an inclusive environment with opportunities for everyone to participate in our parks, programs, and services. Over 250 individuals of all ages and abilities are served annually through our adaptive and inclusion services, which help individuals with disabilities participate in our numerous recreation programs. Other programs, such as table tennis, badminton, and pickleball, are offered to appeal to Carmels increasingly diverse population.

plaY on | West 5-9 YeaRsWelcome to our funtastic camp just for 5-9 year olds! We will focus on having kids being kids and having as much fun as they possibly can. Campers and parents are greeted each morning with a welcoming smile. The camp will start every day with morning color groups, which are divided by age and personalities, so the campers get to know each other and their awesome camp leaders. Each day is filled with fun and exciting games and activities for the campers. Each day before the end-of-day activities, camp leaders nominate Campers of the Day for each color group. Campers receive their certificate in front of their peers and are one step closer to having their name placed on the VIP camper wall. At Play On-West, we strive to keep parents in the know with letters from the campers at least a few times each week, as well as our information wall located near the parent table.
