In AdamsCounty, the shores of Petenwell and Castle Rock Lake are dotted with public launch sites, andvisitors can enjoy water-skiing, swimming, sailing and boating on its beautiful blue waters.Spectacular sunsets await along the many miles of wooded shoreline. For the angler, there arewalleye, northern pike, bass and perch lurking just beneath the surface.
ROMELocated on the northern border of Adams County and the edge of Petenwell Lake, the town ofRome offers myriad recreation choices and scenic country vistas. ATV riding and camping areamong the many activities summer visitors to Rome can enjoy. Highway 13 south of WisconsinRapids and north of Friendship.
ROCHE-A-CRI STATE PARKThe 300 foot sandstone mesa, from which the park derives its name, once was an island in gla-cial Lake Wisconsin. The summit, now accessible by a stairway of solid white-oak planks, offers abreathtaking, 120-mile panorama. The varied terrains of the 425-acre park, include grasslands,open cliffs, pine barrens, oak forest, prairie and the meandering Carter Creek. Roche-A-Cri StatePark offers 42 wooded campsites. There are toilets, water and picnic tables. The park has fourmiles of marked hiking trails. 1767 Highway 13 in Friendship.

The trails also feature views of the surrounding 133,000 acre county forest.The trail system began as a cross-country ski trail and has grown to over 30 kilometers of expertly groomed trails for cross-country skiing. There are 55 campsites with showers andflush toilets and 19 sites with electricity. There is a 217-foot beach with plenty of room for swimming and sun bathing. PRAIRIE TRAILS PARKMerrill’s newest park is located near the corner of Highway G and Highway K along the Prairie River. This 99-acre park features 2.5 miles ofpedestrian trails along the Prairie River, which is a Class "A" trout stream. HIGH POINT TRAILThe Trail at Timm’s Hill County Park is a shared use trail usedby bikers and hikers. The trail consists of narrow singletrack over rolling terrain. There are some steep hills on thistrail. The trail climbs to the lookout tower at the top ofTimm’s Hill, the highest geographical point in Wisconsin.

This wildlife area has 3 nesting pairs of osprey and anactive eagle nest. This DNR property is primarily managedfor sharptail grouse, deer, turkey and bear. You may alsosee wolves, coyotes, badgers, foxes, sandhill cranes andnumerous other bird species.
