Refined sugar has been

associated with: Allergies, Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, Hypertension, Hypoglycemia, Colon and Pancreatic cancer, Acne and skin irritation, Tooth decay, Metabolic syndrome, Obesity, and Type 2 diabetes …to name a few.

Psyche out your cravings Sugar. What is most surprising is just how much this substance has invaded the modern diet. Salad dressings, breakfast cereals, smoothies, seasoning, wine, champagne, crackers, bread, pastas, low fat products and even your favorite takeout are often loaded with sugar. So what do we do about a substance that is not only wreaking havoc with our waistlines but also our quality of life? Is sugar really as poisonous as we are told? YES T IS. How much is too much? Recent trends indicate that refined sugar consumption in the United States in 2000 was 150lbs per person per year. 61% of that is fructose corn syrup. It’s shocking. Imagine measuring 28.5 teaspoons into a glass and then eating it. Makes you feel a bit sick, doesn’t it? It is however, unfortunately a reality – people are consuming too much refined sugar daily.

What we do every day impacts our health, not what we do sometimes. Many of us crave sugar for a quick fix to fuel our inner

engine. If you rev yourself up on caffeine, consume a

bagel and then push your body intensely during cardio

exercise, you will subsequently burn glucose, NOT

BODY FAT. You will most likely crave sugar to refuel

your engine.

Food is Fuel

Quinoa Pudding Satisfy your cravings with the healthier choice! 3/4 cup quinoa, rinsed

4 cups almond or coconut milk

1/4 cup honey

2 large eggs

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup golden raisins or cranberries

1/4 cup apples cubed or peaches

(Chopped walnuts to garnish)

In a large saucepan, bring quinoa and 3 cups of almond milk to a boil; reduce to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, 12 to 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk honey, eggs, cinnamon and remaining cup of milk. Reduce heat to medium-low. Stirring constantly, slowly pour egg mixture into quinoa; Add cubed apples. Cranberries or raisins may be added as well.

Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, 3 to 5 minutes. Pour pudding into a 2-quart dish and let cool slightly. Cover surface directly with plastic and refrigerate until cool, at least 2 hours and up to 2 days.

Try adding more fat to your meals, particularly at lunch, in the form of avocado, organic butter, coconut, nuts, and salmon. Observe your midafternoon desire for sweet foods diminish. Good fats slow down the release of glucose into your blood stream.
