What is CAPA?
CAPA is an organization that
partners with D'Youville and other
colleges and universities across the
United States to help students study
abroad. CAPA has educaton centers
in a variety of global cities,
including Buenos Aires, Barcelona,
London, Dublin, Florence, and
Shanghi. At each location, there are
summer and semester long
programs. CAPA also provides
students the chance to complete an
internshp while studying abroad.
What is a faculty-led
study abroad trip?
A faculty-led study abroad trip is
very unique compared to other
study abroad programs. These trips are customized according to
faculty expertise. Half the course is
in the classroom at D'Youville, and
the second half is completed on
the trip. These trips last anywhere
from 2-4 weeks

the opportunity to expand their
skill set for trauma informed care.
They will also
gain insight into African
perspectives on mental health
and mental health care.
Occupational Therapy Students
and their Trip to Costa Rica
Morin McDade, an occupational therapy student here at D'Youville, went
to Costa Rica along with other OT students as part of a service learning
trip. While there, the students provided occupational therapy services to
adults with developmental disabilities and teenage mothers and their
infants. The students also provided education about the importance of the
services.
One of the most memorable aspects of the trip for Morin was leading a
Zumba class for young mothers. The goal for the class was to provide
stress relief for the mothers. Morin stated, "I spent an hour just dancing,
laughing, and sharing with the girls. I felt a true connection with them and I
will never forget the smiles on their faces." The Zumba class not only
meant the world to the mothers in Costa Rica, but Morin as well.
When asked about any advice she has for students thinking about
studying abroad, she said: "Take the leap, it’s scary and can be
expensive, but it is worth every penny! It will change your life in more
ways than you can imagine, so don’t hold yourself back."

Concern: Students tend to feel

Fact: All classes abroad will be
taught in English with other
American students. Also, many
of the larger cities, the locals
speak English as well.
Concern: With my

to study abroad.
Fact: Anyone can study
abroad, regardless of
their major or program! It is
important to plan early.
Think about taking general

Concern: Studying abroad is too
expensive.
Fact: Most D'Youville financial aid
