BY THE WAY . . . I wanted to say a word of thanks to Frank Abate and all his team from the Liturgical Environment Committee, including the volunteers from our Confirmation Class, who did such a fantastic job in the decorating of our church and the preparation of the liturgical environment, not only for Easter, but for each of the major feasts of Holy Week and the Paschal Triduum. No wonder people come and take pictures! The Priesthood Ordination of Deacons Dailon Lisabet Sanchez and Charles Lana is set to take place on Saturday morning, May 11 at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Paterson at 10:30 A.M. All our parishioners are invited. Ample parking is available in the Passaic County Parking Garage across Grand Street from the Cathedral. The next morning, May 12, Father Lana will celebrate his First Mass here at Saint Anthony’s at 10:00 A.M., followed by Father Lisabet’s First Mass at 12:00 Noon. After both Masses there will be light refreshments in the school auditorium to enable all to greet the new priests and receive their first priestly blessing. This is a moment of great pride and grace for our whole parish – the first time in 49 years that Saint Anthony’s has had a double ordination. One of the other men being ordained, Father Andrew Dutko, also lived in Saint Anthony’s for a few years as a young F.B.I. agent. So, in some ways it is a triple Saint Anthony’s celebration! Beware of Pastoral Scam! – Several of our parishioners have reported receiving e-mail messages from me asking for their assistance in providing gift cards that I need to help some poor parishioners. This is a scam! It has been taking place not only in Saint Anthony’s, but in several other local parishes as well. If you receive such an e-mail purporting to be from me, please disregard it and report it to the police. I was still groggy with Paschal joy last Monday morning when I was overcome with the smell of sausages, onions, peppers, and eggplant cooking in the school cafeteria. It was the first cooking session in preparation for Saint Anthony’s 39th Annual Feast in June. We had a record number of volunteer cooks come out, and the work was accomplished in no time. That is a good omen for the volunteers to come! Attention new altar servers: Father Sylwester will lead training sessions for new altar servers Beginning this Wednesday May 1 and continuing for three weeks at 3:30 in the church. All parishioners, 4th grade and older are asked to volunteer. The annual Novena in honor of Saint Anthony of Padua began this past Tuesday evening and will continue every Tuesday evening until June 18 at 7:30 PM in the church.

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER First Reading: Acts 5:12-16 The people held the apostles in great esteem and brought sick people to them to be healed. Although some were afraid to be known, the number of Jesus' followers continued to grow steadily. Second Reading: Revelation 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19 John depicts a vision of lamp-stands of gold and one like the Son of Man in a robe with a sash of gold. This apparition told John he had nothing to fear and then described himself as one who was dead but now lived again. He then instruct-ed John to record any other visions he might have. Gospel: John 20:19-31 Jesus appeared to the disciples and breathed on them saying, "Receive the Holy Spirit." He gives them the power to forgive people's sins or hold them account-able. Thomas, who was not present, refused to be-lieve Jesus had appeared until he came to them once more. Jesus told Thomas to believe and added, "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

We're accepting the return of Rice Bowls this weekend . Cartons are in place at all doors of the church. Please make checks payable to St. Anthony's, with "Rice Bowl" on the memo line. Thank you for your participation and generosity.

"BABY BOTTLE BOOMERANG" CAMPAIGN

Each year there are more than 44,000 women in New Jersey without the support to choose life. This spring our parish will participate in the Wayne-based Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center's "Baby Bottle Boomerang" campaign. From Mother's Day to Father's Day weekends, at the doors of the church empty baby bottles wrapped with information about Lighthouse's free, confidential services and their impact will be available, to be returned filled with checks, cash and change – to save and change lives! Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center serves women, men and teens at-risk for, or facing, an unplanned pregnancy or related concern. We thank you in advance for your support.

PANTRY NEWS We thank you for your continued support and are most grateful to those of you who help keep our pantry operating and well stocked through donations of food, gift cards, and monetary contributions! And speaking of your support, we extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to our Easter food drive in so many ways. We're most appreciative of your wonderful thoughtfulness and gener-osity. A special note of gratitude goes to Atlantic Stewardship Bank for its very generous dona-tion of $500. to our pantry. Through the Bank's unique Tithing Program, it shares 10% of its taxable income annually with non-profit, educa-tional, charitable and/or evangelical religious organizations in the community. Since the pro-gram's inception, the Bank has awarded over $11.2 million. In his letter to us, Paul Van Ostenbridge, the Bank's President and CEO, wrote: "Each day we see or hear about the positive impact that fine groups have had in far corners of the world and in our own communities. We feel honored and truly blessed to be able to contribute to their good works with our financial assistance. We hope our donation will help your operation and support your mission."

Amazing Things are Happening at St. Anthony School!

can

St. Anthony School leadership development was in full swing as the 8th graders became Teachers for a Day. They all did a tremendous job and displayed patience, kindness, and intelligence in assisting the younger students.

“A leader. . .is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.” – Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa
