Google Analytics used to complement DSpace statistics

Concerns over DSpace statistics DSpace stats tended to break on us SOLR stats put a lot of pressure on our server

2 datasets which didn’t quite match

Google analytics does not automatically count downloads

February 2015 – Decided to solely use Google analytics

April 2015 – Go Live

Challenges

Google Analytics are usually only viewable by authorised account holders

Difficult to capture downloads directly from google.

There is so much information that it can be confusing

Basic information – Referrals, Geographic etc can be shown in dashboards

Repositories without an Opt in/Opt out cookie notice will not get full data

If people click “No” to cookies than their data can’t be collected.
