March 24, 2019– 3rd Sunday of Lent
The Gospel this 3rd Sunday reminds us that our focus in our journey to God should be on God, and not on each other. We should not compare ourselves to others because our journey to God’s heart is neither a contest nor a race. Let us not elbow each other out for there is room for everyone in God’s big heart.
God affords us this season of Lent as grace to
be repentant, to be focused more on Him and less on
our agenda. And so instead of rationalizing, justifying
our self-righteousness, let us face reality in all
humility and start focusing once again on Jesus and
His mission. Life is short. Let us all try to live humble
and fruitful lives.
Let us keep on loving as Jesus did. Amen.
From Fr. Steve

JOIN US FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT STAR OF THE SEA ON THE 1ST
THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH FROM 8:30AM UNTIL 3:00PM
The next Adoration is April 4th from 8:30am-3pm What is Eucharistic Adoration? Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. We as Catholics believe that Christ is truly and substantially present in the Eucharist – Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
Outside of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Jesus remains in the Tabernacle. For Eucharistic Adoration, Our Lord is taken from the Tabernacle and placed in a Monstrance on the Altar, so all may adore Him and spend time with Him. Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!"
The priest uses a humeral veil for the blessing with the Mon-strance so that his hands do not touch the Monstrance…this is symbolic that Jesus and not the priest is blessing the people.
Please prayerfully consider joining the parish Eucharistic Adoration team – contact Dick and Sue Meeker at 757-228-7775 or [email protected]
We are in need of volunteers to help with the Easter Vigil Reception this year, April 20, 2019. Anyone who will be attending the Vigil or just enjoys baking or hosting, please consider helping!! Or, if you were in the RCIA in years past, whether as a
Candidate or a Sponsor, please consider lending a hand. We need people to donate food, as well as people to help the evening of the event. Please contact Jean at the Parish Office 428-8547, if you can help in any way. Thank you.

CRS Rice Bowl’s “Story of Hope” highlights for the third Sunday of Lent the story of Christyan, a father who strives to provide for his family as they flee from civil war in Sri Lanka. For a refugee, returning home after so many years can be challenging. That’s why CRS is helping Christyan and others
like him rebuild their lives. That means helping to clear overgrown sections of farmland and ensuring those farms have access to water. Christyan is now growing rice, pumpkin and peanuts. Because of the assistance from CRS, Christyan can give his family things he never had, especially to help them gain a good education. Learn more about Christyan’s story at www.crsricebowl.org/stories-of-hope/week-3
Peace & Justice Continue to pray for peace for dur ing Lent, which is an excellent time for each of us to strengthen our prayer lives as an individual or family so we can have a deeper relationship with Jesus.
“A key to a prayerful Lent is opening yourself to God being present and active in your heart” ----His Excellency, Most Rev. Barry C. Knestout, Bishop of the Diocese of Richmond. (2/12/2018)
THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT: “Call to Family, Community, and Participation”: In this Catholic social teaching principle of ‘Call to Family, Community and Participation’, we remember that human beings are social by nature such that truly we need each other. We, like the early disciples, are called to come together and grow as a community, whether that community is in our classroom, workplace or family.
