May 27, 2018- Holy Trinity As we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity, where we believe that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one, we see the inclusive Spirit of the Trinity. We, Christians, miss the point by a mile when we insist on our exclusivity or elitism. Debating or worse quarrelling over who is right or wrong, who is closer to God, who is more favored, who is more righteous – all these must make God shake His head in frustration. After all these years, we still don’t get it if we continue hurting each other, if we continue putting each other down, if we continue excluding each other. As the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one, we, too, must be one.
Let us then continue to live lives pleasing to the Most Holy Trinity. As a family, as a parish community, as a nation, and as one human race, let us continue to emulate and live out the oneness and unity of the Most Holy Trinity.
As we celebrate Memorial Day, let us thank and pray for those who have offered their lives to defend our God-given rights, liberty and freedom. Let us also pray for those who continue to do so. Amen.
From Fr. Steve

Peace & Justice: Today’s feast day is The Most Holy Trinity or Trinity Sunday. Trinity Sunday honours the most fundamental of Christian beliefs—belief in the Holy Trinity. The human mind can never fully understand the mystery of the Trinity, but we can sum it up in the following formula: God is three Persons in one nature. There is only one God, and the three Persons of God—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—are all equally God, and They cannot be divided.
In the Sign of the Cross, we profess the deepest mysteries of the Christian Faith: the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--and the saving work of Christ on the Cross on Good Friday. The combination of the words and the action are a creed—a statement of belief as we mark ourselves as Christians through the Sign of the Cross. And yet, because we make the Sign of the Cross so often, we may rush through it, say the words without listening to them, and ignore the profound symbolism of tracing the shape of the Cross—the instrument of Christ's death and our salvation—on our own bodies. A creed is not simply a statement of belief—it is a vow to defend that belief, even if it means following our Lord and Sav-ior to our own cross.
Migrant Ministry May is Migration Awareness Month of Solidarity
“When an alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.” Leviticus 19: 33-34 “The Israelites’ experience of living as homeless aliens was so painful and frightening that God ordered his people for all time to have special care for the alien.” (USCCB)
The social teaching of the Church reminds us that we ought to treat those who flee their countries for various reasons with mercy and dignity. The Catholic approach to migration is rooted in the Gospel and the tradition of Catholic Social teaching.
A migrant is a person who leaves his or her native land and travels to another country in search of something that is lacking in his or her own country. Some of the causes that drive people to migrate include: persecution, war, lack of jobs or resources capa-ble of sustaining one’s family, famine, natural disaster, or family separation (to name a few).
To learn more on how to help address the rights and needs of migrants in the United States, please explore the resources from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops at www.justiceforimmigrants.org. Our Migrant Ministry at Star of the Sea Catholic Church will be starting up during the summer months to outreach to the migrant workers on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Migrant Ministry offers our parish an opportunity to show our SOS hospitality, empathy, and our care to the migrant workers who labor all day in hopes to find income and resources to better their lives and those of their families. Our goal is share God’s love for all in His global family and to see Christ in migrant or immigrant workers who may be seen as “strangers among us”. If interested to learn more about SOS’ Migrant Ministry, please contact Isabel Valentini at # 406-1453.
