January 27, 2019– 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Many of us go through life vacillating between
commitment and selfishness. Human as we are, we often
hold back, calculate, and play safe when it comes to
living out our faith as Catholics. This is where the Holy
Spirit can empower us, if we only allow Him. In our
Gospel, Jesus reminds us about this as he returned to
Galilee in the power of the Holy Spirit, fully aware of
who he was, and fully committed to His purpose and
mission in life. Neither fear nor praise prevented Him
from fulfilling His mission.
Let us receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist with a committed heart, committed to continue His mission to guide, inspire and form the people we serve to be the men, women and children God intended them to be. Let us receive Jesus with a grateful and compassionate heart.
Let us keep on loving as Jesus did. Amen. From Fr. Steve

JOIN US FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT STAR OF THE SEA ON THE 1ST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH FROM 8:30AM UNTIL 3:00PM
What is Eucharistic Adoration? Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. We as Catholics believe that Christ is truly and substantially present in the Eucharist – Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
Outside of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Jesus remains in the Tabernacle. For Eucharistic Adoration, Our Lord is taken from the Tabernacle and placed in a Monstrance on the Altar, so all may adore Him and spend time with Him. Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!"
The priest uses a humeral veil for the blessing with the Mon-strance so that his hands do not touch the Monstrance…this is symbolic that Jesus and not the priest is blessing the people.
Please prayerfully consider joining the parish Eucharistic Adoration team – contact Dick and Sue Meeker at 757-228-7775 or [email protected]
Scheduling Mass Intentions If you would like to schedule a Mass intention for a loved one, you may book 2 Masses at a time. After each Mass is said you may book another. This policy is to ensure that everyone who would like to have a Mass said, has the opportunity to do so. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please call the office at 428-8547.

Social Outreach
Social Outreach shares God’s love by serving the needy and homeless in our Virginia Beach parish community. Social Outreach provides bag lunches and assistance with the best of our available resources, of which 100% is derived from the
generosity and donations of our Star of the Sea Parishioners.
The following items are greatly appreciated at Social Outreach to help needy individuals and families:
Instant Coffee/Powdered Creamer
Jelly/Jams
Plastic recyclable grocery bags 1 pound bags of rice
Soup Kitchen Our next Soup Kitchen Ministry dinner that we host at Judeo Christian Outreach Center (JCOC) will be on March 20th, 2019.
Recently Star of the Sea’s Soup Kitchen team, led by Alma Henry, served a delicious dinner at JCOC on January 23rd! The dinners that we help host at JCOC are not just Star of the Sea’s Soup Kitchen Ministry’s efforts to answer the call of service. During the course of the year, churches and organizations in the Greater Tidewater area also take turns to host a dinner night to feed approximately 60-90 individuals who come in their time of need to JCOC.
We are very happy to be a part of this special community outreach mission to assist JCOC and make sure 365 days of dinners are provided to help bring God’s love to others. Peace & Justice Pray the Rosary and pray for Peace for our world! Pray for Peace in our Communities.
Let us pray that our hearts are transformed by compassion to assist the poor, and see the faces of the Holy Family in people seeking refuge, even in the needy and homeless coming to our SOS Social Outreach. May our Parish continue to be strengthened by our blessings and that we care for one another as ONE FAMILY UNDER GOD.
