To the Parish Family of St. John the Evangelist, As a New Year fast approaches many of us are still enjoying the Christmas Season and the opportunities to gather together with loved ones from near, and possibly far. We are also taking time to take stock in the year that has just passed and setting goals and resolutions for 2020. It is fitting, as well, to reflect upon and express gratitude to God for all the many good things within our lives – faith, family, health, and yes, those special gifts we received on Christmas day! Here at St. John’s I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks and gratitude for so many good things going on here within our parish. Our annual Christmas bazaar, sponsored by our Social Concerns Ministry and Youth Ministry was a huge success! Our many vendors included baked goods, gift baskets of a wide variety, and multiple gift ideas and creations by many individuals. Also, we are most grateful to Santa for taking some time to have lunch with our children and spending some time with them to receive and listen to their Christmas wish lists! A hearty and grateful thank you to St. John’s Knights of Columbus Council for their annual coat drive to assist those in need in our local region. In addition, I wish to thank them for setting up the manger on our lawn, beautifully designed and profoundly simple, it reminds us all of where our hearts come back to during this festive time of year. A special thank you is also in order for all of those individuals involved in coordinating and running our Jesse Tree program! Through the generosity of so many people, we were able to collect so many gifts and items which allowed a great number of families in our surrounding area to experience a joyful Christmas and the truest sense of the Christmas spirit! Lastly, I would like to express my personal thanks and appreciation to Meghan Horn, our outgoing Youth Minister, who will be pursuing both educa-tional and career opportunities in the coming New Year! I am truly grateful for her energy and enthusiasm in inspiring our youth to integrate their faith into their daily living! I would also like to introduce our new Youth Minister, Maria Gdovin, who comes to us with years of experience in youth ministry as well as religious education! She brings with her a vibrant and creative imagination that will help to enhance and expand our present Junior Youth Ministry and High School Youth Ministry! Welcome aboard, as well, to Matt Smith, who joined us as our Business Manager in mid-November. He brings years of parish and church experience to this position and will assist in the stabilization and growth of our financial situation here at St. John’s. On behalf of myself, Fr. Brady, Deacons Jim, Tom and Jon, and our entire Parish Staff may you and your loved ones continue to be blessed abundantly with God’s grace and peace in the coming New Year! Fr. Will

It is the new year in a few days so……Happy New Year and May the Spirit of Joy and Peace be with you all year. Pray that those less fortunate than we have a hot meal and a warm place to stay as we continue the winter season..Our teacher who begins the New Year is Mrs. Heather Samsel who has been with us two years. We are delighted she brings to the six kiddies her love of her faith. How we would love another two or three!!!!

Mrs. Samsel resides with her husband of 23 years, Matthew, and her two sons, Daniel and Grant in Yardley. She brings to the class a new perspective and a willingness to be present to each one of her students. I am blessed that she accepted the invitation to teach the First Grade Level students and that she has already demonstrated a love for the students, a knowledge of the curriculum, and a willingness to go that extra mile when preparing for the class.

The material taught is presented in an engaging manner with the learning skills of the children taken into consideration. The Trinity Clover, lessons on Mary’s Garden, the Advent Wreath and the Spring Chick project with the egg that shows renewal are but a few of the projects that are completed in the class. The experiences for the children are geared for them to have fun while learning about their Catholic Faith. Mrs. Samsel’s class is very interactive with lots of discussion. It is through the eyes of a child that the true meaning of love, forgiveness, acceptance and unbounding enthusiasm can be shared. There are set goals and Mrs. Samsel wants “the children to know how great is God’s love.” She instills in them the need to treat oth-ers with love. The children learn the Hail Mary and understand the meaning of prayer. “I want them to understand Jesus and to follow Him.”

If you would like more information about this class or if you would like to be involved with this please contact us. The stu-dents receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Level Two and there is an invitation extended to all the first graders in our par-ish to register for Grade level one. It is never too late and there are so many more exciting lessons to be learned. With the New Year 2020 here and the material gifts unwrapped and enjoyed, why not give your child the spiritual gift that will last their en-tire lifetime. Just give this some thought and whisper a prayer. I am sure you will make the right decision.

MEMORIAL MEN’S COAT DRIVE

Thank you all for your gracious donations of much needed warm coats for the homeless men living on the streets in Phila-delphia. Distributing the coats was a heartwarming experience that I wish all of you could have shared. One quick story: A lady named Melissa asked me for a plastic bag to store her belongings. I asked one of the Knights to give her one. He did and then he asked her if she was okay. She said she was okay, but asked him to pray for her son. She said she was worried about him. Here she is homeless with everything she owns in a plastic bag worrying more about her son than herself. God bless her.It has been bitterly cold lately, and the warm clothing is greatly appreciated by all that received it. Bless you all again for mak-ing Christmas special for those less fortunate than us. - Lou Penge
