A special Confirmation teacher is Mrs. Jennifer Torres who brings to the PREP classroom her gentle and loving personality. Mrs. Tor-res joined the parish of St. John the Evangelist five years ago and has been a welcomed addition to the PREP program. As a 7th level instructor, Jennifer takes pride in her responsibilities to prepare her students to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in Grade 7 and she does this exceptionally well.

The seventh grade curriculum is intense and deep in the theology of the Catholic faith. The seventh graders focus on the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit and how their lives are made fuller when these fruits and gifts become part of their daily lives. They use the Bible and the Old Testament to learn where the tenets of this sacrament originated. The curriculum also covers the need to be of service to others, not only because it is the right thing to do but also because it rewards the person who is giving. The students in her room are always taught in a gentle manner. Validating the students’ self-worth as a child of God is so important to Mrs. Torres. Her professional background equips Mrs. Torres to see the need for compassion and understanding. I am blessed to have her with me in PREP and am so grateful that she has returned. In addition to PREP, Mrs. Torres is very active in other parish ac-tivities. She lends her beautiful and angelic voice to the new Con-temporary Music Group and occasionally serves as a Cantor. When she is not volunteering or saying “YES” to help someone, Jennifer is working full time as an oncology research nurse. Mrs. Torres es-pecially loves cheering on the sidelines of her sons’ sporting events. Jennifer has been married to her husband Fred for over 17 years and has two children.

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be held on February 19, 2020 at 4:00 pm. The Most Reverend Joseph F. Martino, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia will be the Principal Celebrant.

Our first St. John’s volunteer day at Habitat for Human-ity’s Faith Build House in Morrisville was a huge suc-cess! Thanks to the 6 St. John’s volunteers who worked on the house with the 3 Habitat crew members and to the 5 St. John’s volunteers who provided snacks and lunch throughout the day. Our work crew cleared the yard of construction debris, nailed down deck boards, and hung dry wall in the 2 bathrooms and all of the closets. A feel-ing of accomplishment was felt by all! We hope to have another volunteer day in March. More details will be in upcoming bulletins.
