OUR PRAYER FOR THE WEEK MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA MAY AMERICA BLESS GOD NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK NOVEMBER 6-12 We celebrate National Vocation Awareness Week this week. This annual event is a spe- cial time for parishes in the U.S. to foster a culture of vocations for the priesthood, diaco- nate and consecrated life. Pope Francis, in his homily after the final Mass of the 2016 World Youth Day in Krakow, encouraged the youth of the world to open their hearts to Jesus. “Don’t be afraid to say “yes” to him with all your heart, to respond generously and to follow him!” Pope Francis said. “Don’t let your soul grow numb, but aim for the goal of a beautiful love which also demands sacrifice.” We should all encourage young people to ask the question: “To what vocation in life is God calling me?” Far too often we ask our young children, “What do you want to do when you grow up?” That is sort of a good question, but it often leaves God out of the picture. God know what we are to do so why not ask Him? Prayer for vocations is the responsibility of the entire Church. Often times we think that vocations will come from somewhere else, and yet God invites us to consider that he is raising up vocations to the priesthood, consecrated life, and the permanent diaconate from within our own communities, even our own families. Consider praying a rosary with your family and ask the Blessed Mother to guide you and your family. Our willingness to invite those within our own communities and families to consider that God may be calling them to priesthood or consecrated life will bear abundant fruit in the Church and bring great joy and happiness to those called. I can remember people asking me when I was a kid if I thought about being a priest. At that time, I thought they were crazy, but each of those questions planted a seed deep within me. We want what is best for our children; even more so does God desire their happiness. Fear of losing something holds us back from responding generously to God, and yet it is when we embrace the adventure wholeheartedly for ourselves or those whom we love that we experience joy unlike anything we have known thus far in our lives. When I left the Air Force with a great salary and a beautiful home in Southern California I thought I would never have fun anymore if I became a priest. Boy was I wrong. God’s pleasure is always better than our pleasure. PRAY, INVITE AND TRUST

NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK NOVEMBER 6-12

We celebrate National Vocation Awareness Week this week. This annual event is a spe-cial time for parishes in the U.S. to foster a culture of vocations for the priesthood, diaco-nate and consecrated life. STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.” 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 There are two important lessons here. First, we are called to be generous with our encouragement and hope. As God shows us mercy, we must be merciful to others. Second, joy is contagious! The joy we receive from doing good works not only strengthens us, it encourages others as well.

WEEKLY PRAYER INTENTION That we will educate ourselves on the candidates seeking office and the issues that affect our country and that we will vote with consciences of faithful citizenship, we pray to the Lord.

A Life Message….. We need to offer living worship to a living God. The reason we come together each week to pray for the needs of the community, share the Word and break the Bread is that we have Faith and Hope in a living God Who loves us and Whom we love. If God is the God of the living, should not worship of this God also be alive? Our worship services and relation to God must be life-giving rather than life-draining experiences. Unfortu-nately, Holy Mass and other worship services are often described as "dead” or "boring." Even Church volunteers sometimes complain of be-ing exhausted in their work. The proclamation that our God is the God of the living has to mean something positive to us. It should affect our lives today and every day, especially during our Sunday worship. In response to Him, our participation in prayers and songs during the Holy Mass should be active and our behavior in church reverent, though not gloomy. As we con-tinue our Eucharist celebration and gather around the Table of the Lord, let us give thanks to Almighty God for this foretaste of the Heavenly Banquet that awaits us in the place that God has prepared for us.

A VOCATION VIEW “May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God.” Are you being called to love the Lord with an undivided heart as a priest, deacon or in the con-secrated life? Talk to your parish priest!

Vocation Prayer Family: Nov 7—13: Noreen Gill; Dan & Mary Hanson Next week: Dick & Peg Dailey; Norma Schuh Kits are available to help with prayers.
