ST. ANN-STONEWALL
FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT December 01, 2019
Our Parish Mission Statement
We, the Catholic Church of Desoto Parish, embrace the universal mission
of the Church. As members of the Body of Christ, the Holy Spirit calls us
together to worship the Father: By celebrating God’s presence among us in
both Word and Sacrament; by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus’
redemptive death and resurrection and by expressing God’s unconditional,
liberating and healing love in our service to others in the world.
IN REFLECTION
The Son of Man will come at an hour you least expect.
~Matthew 24:37–44 As we turn our calendars to December, we begin the
season of preparation for Jesus’ coming into the world and
into our lives. However, Advent is not only a time in
which we wait for the Lord to come to us; we are
reminded today that our lives should be a journey as well,
a journey to God. Even as we prepare for the Lord’s
coming at Christmas, let us also continue walking our own
path to the Lord.
Today’s readings emphasize that we are called to do more
during Advent than just wait for the Lord’s coming. We
are called to act. Isaiah calls all people to come in peace
and light to the mountain of the LORD. Saint Paul
encourages the Romans to live in the light, conducting
themselves appropriately. Jesus warns his disciples that the
Second Coming could occur at any time and they must be
prepared. Let us prepare right now by listening attentively
to the word of God.
Question of the week: What am I doing that I would not
want seen in the light of day, or at the hour I do not
expect? What do I need to do to change this?
