Whatever you eat, whatever you drink, whatever you do at all, do it for the glory of God. Never do anything of-fensive to anyone – to Jews or Greeks or to the Church of God; just as I try to be helpful to everyone at all times, not anxious for my own advantage but for the ad-vantage of everybody else, so that they may be saved.

Take me for your model, as I take Christ.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘If a swelling or scab or shiny spot appears on a man’s skin, a case of leprosy of the skin is to be suspected. The man must be taken to Aaron, the priest, or to one of the priests who are his sons.

‘The man is leprous: he is unclean. The priest must de-clare him unclean; he is suffering from leprosy of the head. A man infected with leprosy must wear his cloth-ing torn and his hair disordered; he must shield his up-per lip and cry, “Unclean, unclean”. As long as the dis-ease lasts he must be unclean; and therefore he must live apart; he must live outside the camp.’

Gospel: Mark 1: 40-45

Responsorial Psalm: 31: 1-2, 5, 11

R: I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

1. Happy the man whose offence is forgiven,

whose sin is remitted.

O happy the man to whom the Lord

imputes no guilt,

2. But now I have acknowledged my sins;

my guilt I did not hide.

I said: ‘I will confess

my offence to the Lord.’

And you, Lord, have forgiven

the guilt of my sin. R.

3. Rejoice, rejoice in the Lord,

exult, you just!

O come, ring out your joy,

all you upright of heart. R.

St Peter’s School News Welcome back to all students and

staff of St Peter’s School for the new school year with opportunities and

challenges in 2018. Welcome BBQ On Friday, 23 February from 5pm-7.30pm on the school oval. A free event for all St Peter’s school families. The Year 6 Camp is being held at Forest Edge Recrea-tion Camp. There will be many challenges for Year 6 students in the camp program but many rewards to be gained from participating in the varied activities. The Woodwind and Brass Program has been running at St Peter’s for many years and children involved in this program develop a keen interest in music and acceler-ated musicianship skills. Research also suggests that learning an instrument from a young age improves overall academic performance, social skills and confi-dence. School Disco - Friday 6 April 2018. More information to follow.

GOSPEL REFLECTION by Fr Michael Tate

Lepers were social outcasts forced to live out-side the villages and towns. Jesus heals the lep-er, allowing him to return to communal living, but, in touching him, Jesus put himself on the outer. The Gospel says that Jesus ‘had to stay outside where nobody lived’. Jesus willingly changed places with the leper!

This incident prefigures the deepest mystery and scandal of the Gospel. Because of our delib-erate wrongdoing, we are ‘on the outside’ with God. Our Lord and Saviour willingly experienced that alienation on Calvary, outside the walls of Jerusalem, in a desolate place where no-body lived. He suffered the dis-locating consequenc-es of sin in his body and mind: ‘My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?’

He took our place outside the human awareness of the loving presence of His Heavenly Father so that we might be located in the right place, insiders with God.

We might pause for a moment to lovingly thank our Saviour for leading us into ‘the One in Whom we live and move and have our being’.

The ‘Mother-of-Pearl Church’ celebrates centenary year

Few churches in Australia are more remote, or beautiful, than the Sacred Heart Church in Beagle Bay, part of the Catholic Diocese of Broome.

It takes over an hour from Broome by four-wheel drive along a red dirt track on Western Australia’s Dampier Peninsula to reach the Sacred Heart Church in Beagle Bay.

The rich history of the Beagle Bay community is as fascinat-ing as the landscape………

National Conference seeks hearing, healing and hope

Hearing, Healing and building Hope in a sector enmeshed by disruption and challenges are the key messages that underpin the 2018 Catholic social services national conference to be held in February.

The conference, which will run from February 21 to 23 at the Catholic Leadership Centre, East Melbourne, will provide an opportunity for delegates to reflect on major challenges that affect local communities, Catholic social service organisa-tions, parishes and their leaders…….

Pope supports pro-life movement, sets day of prayer for peace in Africa

With so many direct attacks on human life, from abortion to war, Pope Francis said he is worried that so few people are involved in pro-life activities.

Reciting the Angelus prayer at the Vatican on 4 February, Pope Francis marked Italy’s Pro-Life Sunday and also called for a day of prayer and fasting for peace on 23 February, with special prayers for Congo and South Sudan.

Some 20,000 people gathered in St Peter’s Square for the An-gelus. Many of them carried the pro-life movement’s green balloons with the message, “Yes to life.”……...

PREP Classes (After school Catechism)

Don’t forget ……… PREP Classes begin on Tuesday, 13 February at 4pm in the hall.

It is a penitential season of prayer, self-denial and helping others. In this way the whole Church pre-pares for Easter with those who are to be baptised.

• Catholics are obliged to receive holy com-munion at least once a year between Ash Wednesday and Trinity Sunday.

• Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence for those who have com-pleted their eighteenth year, until the begin-ning of their sixtieth year; the law of absti-nence binds those who have completed their fourteenth year.

All are welcome to come and enjoy morning tea in the Hall after the 8.30am Mass this

Sunday.

Upcoming Workshop

A Workshop for Acolytes and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion is scheduled for

Monday, 26 February at 7pm in the church. This is very important and we urge members of

these Ministries to attend.

A Workshop for Readers/Commentators will be advertised shortly.

As we enter into Lent, let us all be mindful of the jour-ney that we will be undertaking during this time. Dur-ing Lent, there will be no entrance hymn or final hymn. You will also notice that the Sanctuary will be bare of flowers and these will be replaced weekly by symbols which are placed there to signify the weekly readings. You will also notice that the Holy Water is taken away and the ciborium is covered with a purple cloth to signify the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ in the desert.

There will be no opening or final hymn. Fr Jeronimo

and the servers of the mass will enter in silence, the

commentator will make a brief introduction and will

ask the congregation to kneel. Fr Jeronimo will move

forward dressed only in his Alb and Stole and will

kneel in front of the Altar. He will then collect the

Chasuble from his chair and will robe. There will be

no invitation to the congregation to welcome each oth-

er, again this is to encourage us to prepare in the si-

lence of the moment for Lent.

Commencing on Friday 16th February at 7pm there will be Stations of the Cross in the church each

Friday throughout Lent.

LENT BEGINS NEXT WEDNESDAY

Rosters—Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Reader/Commentator rosters are being prepared for the period March-May. If there any changes, please no-tify the parish office before 20 February.
