Life Quote
“At home: can we be more loving
and forgiving to those who mean so
much to us? Can we take the time to
show our unconditional love? At
work: are we really a Christian
example to our coworkers? Can we
be more mindful of the struggles
others are going through? At church:
where sometimes, ironically, it’s the
hardest, can we put on the mind of
Christ, giving ourselves to our
brothers and sisters in the faith? …
Let the message of God's love in
Jesus resonate boldly in your own
life … to God’s glory.”
Dr. J. A. O. Preus – Lutherans For
Life
ST. PAUL’S MISSION
Make disciples that GATHER together, GROW in Jesus, and GO and be
His hands and feet.
ST. PAUL | MONTHLY NEWSLETTER | MARCH 2020
Eyes on Jesus “O come, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the founder and
perfecter of our faith..” (Hebrews 12:2)
When the characters in the Passion narrative look at Jesus, what do they see? In most cases, people misunderstood who He is and what He was doing. In some cases, by faith, people recognized Him aright. Our Lenten series this year, Eyes on Jesus is based on Passion according to St. Mark. We will examine how the various people around Jesus viewed Him—and how we should view Him. We will “fix our eyes” on what Jesus has done to save us from our sins by His holy, precious blood and innocent sufferings and death, and celebrate what God sees on account of His work: our justification for His sake. On the first Sunday in Lent we will see how, in spite of Jesus’ repeated predictions about His upcoming Passion, the disciples with “Misjudging Eyes” fail to recognize that soon He will not be with them, and they cannot see the anonymous woman’s anointing of Jesus as preparation for His burial. But Jesus sees her actions as a beautiful deed that will be proclaimed throughout the world wherever the Gospel is heard. During the second Sunday in Lent, we will look through Judas’s “Betraying Eyes” and learn why he did this awful deed. Yet the behind-the-scenes-reality is that Jesus was “handed over” by God the Father Himself, so that Jesus could die for the sin of the world.

THE COMPASSION PROJECT Know someone in our congregation or the community who needs help, could use a visit, or just needs some compassion shown to them? The compassion Project of St. Paul wants to help. Whether it’s a meal, some paper products, or help fixing a leaky toilet, the Compassion Project gives the hope of Jesus by show-ing compassion. There are no strings attached. We love our community and want to help as we are able. Please contact the office or check out the website to let us know how we can be compassionate or if you want to know more.
“Sleepy Eyes” is the theme for the third week Sunday in Lent. In Gethsemane, Jesus’ inner circle of Peter, James, and John cannot keep their eyes open to watch and pray with Jesus for even an hour, while Jesus comes to see that His Father’s will is that He drink the cup of God’s wrath when He comes to the “hour” of His suffering. On the fourth Sunday in Lent, we stare into the “Denying Eyes” of Peter and the other apostles. They could not see how they could ever fall away from Jesus, but ten of them flee and Peter whose own neck is on the line—sees fit to deny Jesus, which leads to his own eyes weeping in remorse. We sinners likewise deny our Lord in many ways, but Jesus denied Himself to take up the cross for our salvation. “Murderous Eyes” is the theme for the fifth Sunday in Lent. The chief priests and scribes saw Jesus as an obstacle to be rid of by murdering Him through the Roman judicial system. Yet during the Passover festival, they would unwittingly bring about the Father’s sacrifice of the ultimate Passover Lamb. For the sixth Sunday in Lent, we look through the “Worldly Eyes” of Pilate, the Jewish leaders, and the Roman soldiers. Pilate can only view matters in a pragmatic way, wishing to placate the worldly Jewish leaders and crowd, so he hands Jesus over for crucifixion. The soldiers mock Jesus as the “King of the Jews” and in doing so proclaim who He really is. The world looks for power and glory; God’s way is suffering and the cross. On Holy Thursday, there is “More Than Meets the Eye” to the Lord’s Supper. We will look into
the Old Testament background of the Last Supper and rejoice in the mystery that Jesus, in and with, bread and wine, gives us His body and blood in order to deliver to us the benefits of His Passion. On Good Friday, we look through “God’s Eyes” to see what is happening during the Passion: the once-for-all atonement for the sin of the whole world and the justification of all sinners on Easter. “Resting Eyes” is the theme for the Easter Sunrise Service. Various disciples rested their eyes upon the dead Jesus, cared for His body, and buried it. As the women rest their eyes upon the sealed tomb and contemplate further anointing of His body the next day, they cannot see that Jesus’ own eyes are merely resting temporarily, and Easter morning will bring a dramatic reversal. Finally, Easter Sunday gazes upon “Angel Eyes.” The angel in the tomb knows the whole story of Jesus’ resurrection. When he sees the women, he proclaims the Gospel to them, shows them the empty tomb, and tells them that they can see Jesus themselves in Galilee. Like-wise, messengers of the Church in the apostolic ministry tell God’s people where they can find Jesus and His salvation in the Means of Grace. With Eyes on Jesus as our theme this Lent, we will continuously focus on Jesus Christ crucified and risen for our justification. This is a vision that will never disappoint, for by trusting in Jesus, He promises that we will gaze upon His beautiful face now by faith and forever in heaven!

Spiritual Estate Plan
What will you pass along to your heirs? Most people are careful to include any stocks, cash, life
insurance and real property like their home or vacation cottage. They list all the gifts that God has
given them and who they would like to benefit, right down to the godchildren.
But is that enough? Will your final plan also express your faith and how it has impacted your entire
life? A valuable component of your Spiritual Estate Plan is making sure your family knows how
thankful you are for all the ways God has made a difference in your life.
How do you handle the challenges that are part of your life? Romans 8:28 tells us, “We know that in
all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His
purpose”. Is that how you live? When sickness or trouble comes your way, are you thankful to God
through everything? Do your family and community see you turning these trials over to God? Your
attitude, gratitude and reaction to trouble are a testament of your faith.
At your funeral many people who have been part of your life are likely to pay their respects. It is
another opportunity to demonstrate God’s faithfulness and love. What are the Bible passages and
songs that mean the most to you? Let your family and pastor know what you would like included in
the service. Even your obituary can be a reflection of your faith. Is it a recount of what you have
done or reflecting what God has done for you?
Your strong faith will impact how you communicate in your Estate Plan. We all want to leave an
inheritance to family. Passing along your courage and strength, which comes through your faith, is
more valuable than any financial gift you can leave. As you decide how to bless your family,
remember to include a final estate gift to ministries that have blessed you. That is another way to
express to family how important those ministries have been in your life. Plus your gift will be a huge
blessing to those ministries, allowing them to share God’s grace, winning more souls for Christ,
through the Holy Spirit.
Contact Church Extension Fund - Gift Planning to discuss various ways to create your Spiritual
Estate Plan. Share your spiritual and financial gifts with loved ones, while blessing ministry with an
Estate Gift that will help change the world. There is no cost to you for using this ministry of CEF.
We want to assist you in getting your personal faith story to your family and friends. Call us today!

News about Reverend James and Christel Neuendorf
Pastor James and Christel have been working on finding a building suitable for worship services.
Any building that is purchased will need renovations and work, based upon the conditions of many of
the structures after the devastating hurricane that hit the area.
The Ladies Wednesday Bible Class along with the congregation would like to begin a project in 2020
to help raise funds to assist with the cost of the many repairs that will be needed to make the Church
of Fuente de Vida functional. You soon will see a table with plastic building blocks that will be for
sale and then used to build a church model. Just prior to Easter Sunday the money will be sent to
Puerto Rico for the congregation to use for renovations and repairs.
Our Construction Managers will be: Linda Kuffert (727-2790) & Joanne Bryngelson (255-7880).
The Construction Crew will be the Wednesday Women’s Bible Study & other members of St. Paul.
