MISSION APPEAL WEEKEND

A member of the Missionaries of St. Charles - Scalabrinians, is in our parish preaching at all the Masses. He shares with us the concerns and longings of the missionary activity that his Religious Order was entrusted in the Church: the care of immigrant and refugee people. He is sent by the Catholic Mission Office with the purpose of reminding each baptized catholic of our common responsibility to teach all nations about God’s salvation plan in Christ Jesus.

A collection will be taken up for the needs of the Missionaries of St. Charles - Scalabrinians. Your generous donation will enable many missionary works to be accomplished in the world. Thank you for your prayers and financial support.

FIN DE SEMANA DE APELACION PARA LAS MISIONES DE SAN CHARLES - SCALABRINIANS

FIN DE SEMANA DE APELACION PARA LAS MISIONES DE SAN. CHARLES - SCALABRINIANS

Scalabrini).

The Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians – is an international community of religious serving migrants and refugees of different cultures, religions and ethnicities in 32 countries and on five continents. The Congregation was founded on November 28, 1887, by Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini (1839-1905), bishop of Piacenza (Italy). It was the period of massive emigration from Italy and Europe toward the Americas. It was a far-reaching phenomenon whose importance Bishop Scalabrini was able to grasp in both its social and religious dimensions. Our missionary focus has always been to be migrants with the migrants, to be in mission with people on the move, to serve the migrants who are more acutely living the drama of migration. What has become very obvious is that, as we have taken more missionary risks and made an effort to clarify our charism, we have been blessed with more and more vocations. The blessing is doubled by the fact that we are currently receiving the vocations that match our present need.

SCALABRINIANS: Migrants with the Migrants

• The Missionaries of St. Charles - Scalabrinians are present in 32 countries throughout the 5 continents. • We provide shelters along the borders between countries. • We shepherd migrants in our multiethnic parishes. • We welcome refugees and defend their rights. • We collaborate with Episcopal Conferences on migration issues. • We show solidarity with the displaced through missionary activities. • We provide services and shelters to the seamen. • We create and promote migration awareness through the mass media. We advocate and network for a humane and just Migration Reform and Dream Act. We offer you the opportunity of one year of vocation discernment in our seminary program in Los Angeles

The seed is the word of God. The agricultural meta-phors in all of today’s readings give richness to the message that the word of God, cultivated in our hearts, bears much fruit in our lives. Creation itself awaits the redemption of all, even as our bodies await the resurrection. Just as we will rejoice in the fulfillment of God’s word, so will all of creation sing for joy in the Reign of God. The word of God is ef-fective and holy; it brings about exactly what it says. It is not futile or empty, but rich in meaning for those who hear and are healed. Those who hear the word of God and keep it will, with all creation, bear much fruit and sing for joy. Copyright © J. Want to support our Altar Servers?

We at St. Matthew’s are greatly blessed to have so many children and families committed to service at the altar, which is essential to the worthy celebration of the Mass. Over the years, wear and tear have taken their toll on the cassocks and surplices provided for these generous young men and women, who give so much of their time and talent to the dignity and prayerfulness of our liturgies. Will you help us purchase new vesture that better expresses our reverence for the sacred liturgy and our support of these generous young parishioners who contribute so much to quality of our celebrations? A full set of new servers’ vestments will cost $3,000.00. Donations would be greatly appreciated and may be dropped off or mailed to the parish office. 1 Notre Dame Ave, San Mateo, CA 94402. Attention: Monsignor Talesfore.
