Cycles of Faith - 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time In my travels Ive visited cities like Washington New York and Chicago And
while Im mostly a country person at heart there is a certain vibrancy in city life
I like walking down the crowded streets of a shopping or entertainment district
and watching the people I suppose I enjoy it because it is so different from the
country road that I usually walk down in the early morning If Im taking an
evening walk in the city Im always intrigued by the long lines that form outside
certain clubs You can hear the thumping of the music and see the flashing of
the lights As I walk by the waiting crowd is often trying to convince the
bouncers guarding the doors that they know someone on the inside who would
surely let them in if the person only knew they were out on the sidewalk From
my cursory observance the pleading patrons are almost never admitted
It is probably not fair to compare the kingdom of heaven to the big city club
scene even though people come from the east and the west the north and the
south to get in on a Saturday night Like the clubs the kingdom of God does
have an exclusive clientele and you do have to know someone to get in-and he
has to know you
We get to know Jesus by spending time with him through prayer and by reading
the Bible We get to know him even better by our communion with him when we
receive the Eucharist And we get to know Jesus when we discover him in the
hungry the thirsty the homeless the stranger the sick and the imprisoned
Theres not a line stretching around the corner to meet these kinds of people But
maybe there should be If we want to get in to the best place ever then were
going to have to line up to help these least ones Liturgical Publications Inc

Christian Formation Corner - August 17 Meeting Results - Part One
The Christian formation Committee has begun preparing for a Bible Study offering which will include 8 sessions in
October and November of this year Plans are very general at this point We will be inviting all adults to participate
in the offering Those interested will be part of the decision-making process as far as picking days and times
Often one single book of the Bible is chosen for study but in this study we will be looking at ldquothe big picturerdquo of
Scripturemdash the story of salvation history from Genesis through the Acts of the Apostles That is the story of
Godrsquos relationship with His people through time We will be helped to understand the entire story and see how
various books fit together to get that story across We will learn the story in a way that is easy to remember and
that helps us to continue reading Scripture on our own with greater understanding This offering ldquoA Quick
Journey Through the Biblerdquo has subsequent layerslevels which we may also choose to offer More later

October and November of this year Plans are very general at this point We will be inviting all adults to participate
in the offering Those interested will be part of the decision-making process as far as picking days and times
