No matter how wonderful (or heartbreaking) our relationships are, God always provides for us. No one cares for us the way God does. Isaiah delights us with a deeply intimate image of God caring for us “as a mother comforts her child.” The prophet describes us not as the usual “children of God,” but as “babies.” We should not resist this image, but rejoice in it. Trusting in God’s care, we can all let down our guard and rest like infants in the lap of our mother. Saint Paul’s trust in God allows him to be at peace like this. He boldly declares that no one can “make troubles” for him, because he has given himself completely to Jesus. And when Jesus sends his disciples out to preach and heal, he challenges them not to provide for themselves, but to let faith be their guide. Archdiocesan Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family. Amen. St. Catherine of Siena Parish Prayer God, Our Father, we thank you for our parish community of St. Catherine of Siena. Thank you for the many blessings that you have given us, but especially for calling us to serve as disciples of your son, Jesus Christ. As we gather today, we ask that you send your Holy Spirit to guide us in everything that we do. Transform our hearts and lead us closer to you. Help us always to seek to be a parish that is Centered on Christ and Ablaze with Love. We ask all of these things in the name of Jesus, and through the intercession of our Blessed Mother. St. Catherine of Siena, pray for us! St. Michael the Archangel Prayer St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Archdiocesan News Movie about Dom Gregory De Wit: July 12 “Hand of the Master: The Art and Life of Dom Gregory de Wit” will be shown on Friday, July 12, 7 pm (approximately 55 minutes in length), in the St. Benilde Teen Center, 1901 Division Street, Metairie. Driven by his Benedictine work ethic and his own deep love for God, Dom Gregory de Wit created a vast body of art that spans across Europe and the Unit-ed States. However, not everyone approved of his style, and his strong personality could be as divisive as his art. Admission is free of charge, and snacks and refreshments, also free of charge, will be available. Entrance to the Teen Center is through the gate between the back of church and the church office. For more information contact Val Hebert, [email protected] or 427-0327. Mass for Persons with Disabilities: July 14 All are invited to attend the quarterly Mass for Persons with Disabilities, on Sunday, July 14, 11 am, at St. Genevieve Church, 58203 Highway 433, Slidell. The Archdiocese of New Orleans Commission on Persons with Disabilities hosts this Mass at a parish in various parts of the arch-diocese each quarter as a way to highlight the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the liturgy. Married Couples’ Weekend Retreat: July 19-21 Would you like to break away with your spouse and spend quality time enriching your marriage? Then join in the upcoming Married Couples’ Retreat, Friday-Sunday, July 19-21, at the newly renovated St. Joseph Abbey Christian Life Center in Covington. Going on a Married Couples’ Retreat does not mean that something is failing but rather it is a falling into the graces of our Lord, an opportunity to find rest, strength, and enrichment. Attending a married couples’ retreat annually is a great way to deepen and renew your love for God and each other! To register or for information call Jason Angelette at 830-3716 or visit FaithandMar-riage.org. A suggested donation is requested but not required. Men’s Emmaus Retreat: July 19-21 Men, put aside the “hustle and bustle” of daily life and attend the men’s Emmaus retreat the weekend of July 19-21. The retreat is held at Rosaryville Spirit Life Center and retreat house in beautiful, peaceful Ponchatoula, Louisiana. The retreat is based on the scripture passage, “The appearance on the road to Emmaus” (Luke 24:13-35) and is an uplifting experience that has a profound effect on men’s lives. The retreat begins at 5 pm on Friday and ends after the 5:30 pm Mass on Sunday. Round trip transportation is provided from St. Dominic Church, New Orleans. Please don’t ignore this opportunity but pray on it in-stead. Something special definitely awaits you at Rosaryville! Please contact the following men for additional information: Colin Taulli, 494-4511; David Drude, 985-974-0657; or Johnny Fisk, 427-6601. Natural Family Planning Awareness Week: July 21-27 July 21-27 is Natural Family Planning Awareness Week. Following is the conclusion to a homily by Rev. Dr. Paul CB Schenck: “The uncertain-ties and complexities of family planning lead many couples to believe that contraception is the only route to responsible parenting. The Church though points to another option, one that is at the same time optimistic and realistic: the principles of Natural Family Planning, or NFP. NFP respects and affirms the factors couples consider to be essen-tial to responsible family planning while respecting the woman’s power to conceive and bear their child. NFP allows married couples to rely on the genius and design of their own bodies to help achieve or avoid preg-nancy. Those unable to conceive naturally might be granted wisdom and courage to adopt, foster, or sponsor children. “At a time when the emerging generation of young people is rightfully concerned for the protection and preservation of nature, and the dan-gers of biotechnology, genetic engineering, and the artificial manipula-tion of life, NFP answers the need to attend to the protection and preservation of the human person as the image and likeness of God, and of the human body as the Temple of the Holy Spirit. NFP promises to integrate heaven and earth, the divine and the human, the soul and the body. NFP offers an aspirational and inspirational alternative to the technolo-gization, mechanization, and industrialization of human relationships. NFP respects and protects the nature of the person. In a phrase, Natu-ral Family Planning is loving, naturally.”

Catholic Bishops, Washington, DC, reprinted with author’s permission.
