OZANAM SUNDAY The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has special reason to celebrate this Sunday, April 26 as Ozanam Sunday! It was on April 23, 1833 that twenty year old Frederic Ozanam along with a small group of college men formed “The Conference of Charity” later to be renamed the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Paris, France. The devas-tating cholera outbreak of 1832 in that city had left many in dire financial needs. The burn-ing desire to help those in need fueled Frederic and his companions to enlist the help of Sr Rosalie Rendu, a Daughter of Charity (another religious order co-founded by St. Vincent de

Paul). Sr. Rosalie knew the poor and sick in the slums of Paris and taught these young men how to help the poor with dignity – to journey with them through their trials.

The work of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the work of the Holy Spirit – it must be – because it has last-ed 187 years, and spread to over 140 countries in the world. In fact, we are celebrating the 175th Anniversary of the Society in the United States this year.

We thank God for St. Vincent de Paul, Frederic Ozanam and The Society of St Vincent de Paul. This Catholic organization across the world, and our conference here at St. Anthony’s truly helps its members to grow in ho-liness as we try to serve others through our mission to feed, clothe, house, and heal friends in need. Those in need open their hearts and lives to us, hoping we can provide some light in their times of darkness. We thank our generous donors who provide the necessary funds to provide this help. As we celebrate our humble begin-nings we ask you to pray about becoming more involved – open your hearts to journeying with our friends in need. During this COVID19 crisis, we are meeting via Zoom. Please contact Deacon Stu if you are ready to take the next step and get involved. Have a blessed Ozanam Sunday! EASTER CANDLE DISPLAY For the Easter Season, we will have several of our past Easter Candles on display in St. Francis Gathering Place. The Easter Candle is one of the items in the liturgy that represents Christ. It is blessed and lit for the first time each year at the Easter Vigil. The Candle is also lit for the celebra-tion of each baptism throughout the year and from it, the baptismal candles are lit. Also, the Easter Candle is lit for each funeral Mass. For a number of years, Mona Frank has made our candles and parishioner Jane Schuh has decorated them. Thank you to both ladies for your beautiful creations! Please stop by to take a look as you take time to pray over the coming weeks. 52 SUNDAYS 52 Sundays is a dynamic guide to help you and your family reclaim the Lord's Day with prayer, activities, food, and more! It offers simple and insightful ways for your family to spend time together each Sunday learning more about the Catholic faith and having fun while you’re at it. Living our faith means developing a personal relationship with Jesus. Just like any friendship, there is give and take, each side listening to each other and helping each other out. Take time in silence to listen to what Jesus is asking of you.
