Confession

Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God,

in whose image we are made,

who claims us and calls us beloved.

Amen.

Holy One, we confess that we are not awake for you.

We are not faithful in using your gifts.

We forget the least of our siblings.

Page 8: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

Confession (continued)

We do not see your beautiful image in one another.

We are infected by sin

that divides your beloved community.

Open our hearts to your coming,

open our eyes to see you in our neighbor,

open our hands to steward your creation. Amen.

Page 9: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

Forgiveness

Friends, we are God’s children,

and Jesus, our Savior, opens the door to us.

Through ☩ Jesus you are forgiven:

by Jesus we are welcome,

in Jesus we are called to rejoice!

Let us live in the promises prepared for us

from the foundation of the world.

Amen.

Gathering Song: Shall We Gather At the River Musical Leadership: Sue Smith

Verse 1: Shall we gather at the river, where bright angel feet have trod,

with its crystal tide forever flowing by the throne of God?

Refrain: Yes, we'll gather at the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river;

gather with the saints at the river that flows by the throne of God.

Verse 4: Soon we'll reach the shining river, soon our pilgrimage will cease;

soon our happy hearts will quiver with the melody of peace. Refrain

Prayer of the Day

Let us pray.

Almighty God, you have knit your people together in one communion in the mystical body of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Grant us grace to follow your blessed saints in lives of faith and commitment, and to know the inexpressible joys you have prepared for those who love you,

through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Word

God speaks to us in Bible readings,

preaching and song

Page 13: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

First Reading: Revelation 7:9-17 Emma Nesfeder, Reader Contemporary English Version (CEV)

A reading from Revelation, the seventh chapter.

After this, I saw a large crowd with more people than could be counted. They were from every race, tribe, nation, and language, and they stood before the throne and before the Lamb.

They wore white robes and held palm branches in their hands, as they shouted, “Our God, who sits upon the throne, has the power to save his people, and so does the Lamb.”

Page 14: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

First Reading (continued)

The angels who stood around the throne

knelt in front of it with their faces to the ground.

The elders and the four living creatures knelt there with them.

Then they all worshiped God and said,

“Amen! Praise, glory, wisdom, thanks, honor, power,

and strength belong to our God forever and ever! Amen!”

Page 15: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

First Reading (continued)

One of the elders asked me,

“Do you know who these people are that are dressed in white robes?

Do you know where they come from?”

“Sir,” I answered, “you must know.” Then he told me:

“These are the ones who have gone through the great suffering.

They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb

and have made them white.

And so they stand before the throne of God

and worship him in his temple day and night.

Page 16: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

First Reading (continued)

“The one who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.

They will never hunger or thirst again,

and they won’t be troubled by the sun or any scorching heat.

“The Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd.

He will lead them to streams of life-giving water,

and God will wipe all tears from their eyes.”

Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God!

Page 17: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

Second Reading: 1 John 3:1-3 Deb Stevens – Reader New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

A reading from First John, the third chapter.

See what love the Father has given us,

that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are.

The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Beloved, we are God’s children now;

what we will be has not yet been revealed.

Page 18: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

Second Reading (continued)

What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him,

for we will see him as he is.

And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God!

Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

The Good News from Matthew, the fifth chapter.

Open our hearts, Lord.

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down,

his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Page 20: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

Gospel (continued)

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

for they will be filled.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Page 21: Spirit Worship Holy Spirit @ Home · Verse 1: For all the saints who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!

Gospel (continued)

“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you

and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven,

for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

This is the Good News! Thanks be to God! Hallelujah!

On this All Saints Day, let us begin our prayers

by giving thanks for our loved ones whose lives –

brought to a close here on earth – now rest fully with God:

After each petition:

God of new life, hear our prayer.

Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving

and honor and power and might be to you, O God,

forever and ever.

Amen.

Word in Meal

You are holy, almighty and merciful God.

and great is the majesty of your glory.

You so loved the world that you gave your only Son,

so that everyone who believes in him may not perish

but have eternal life.

We give you thanks for his coming into the world

to fulfill for us your holy will

and to accomplish all things for our salvation.

Word in Meal (continued)

Together as the body of Christ, let us proclaim the mystery of faith:

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

With this bread and cup we remember your Word dwelling among us,

full of grace and truth.

We remember our new birth in his death and resurrection.

We look with hope for his return at the end of time

to gather all your saints around your throne.

Come, Lord Jesus.

Bring your gift of peace to this beautiful yet broken world.

Come, Holy Spirit.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,

now and forever. Amen.
