Free Legal Advice
Clinic
To honor local veterans and to
commemorate Veterans Day, the
Jefferson County Bar Association
(JCBA) will hold a FREE legal
advice and counsel clinic for
Jefferson, Hardin, Orange,
Chamber, and Liberty County
veterans and spouses of deceased
veterans from these counties on
Saturday, November 9, 2013, from
8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the
American Legion Beaumont Post
#33 located at 1320 Pennsylvania,
Beaumont, TX. The JCBA’s legal
advice clinic was created to
provide veterans increased access
to legal services.
The clinic is free of charge to any veteran or
spouse of a deceased veteran who needs legal
assistance.
Appointments are strongly encouraged to
ensure consultation. Walk-ins will be
addressed as time and resources allow. To
schedule an appointment, contact the Jefferson
County Bar Association at (409) 835-8647 or
There are always gremlins causing mischief around any church office. Add to that
the mistakes that naturally happen with as many people involved in the life of a congregation,
as much paper is used in the work of ministry, and as many activities as happen in the life of a
church each week. I know many of you have been confused by emails addressed to those of
us who work at the church bouncing back lately. The reasons are complex. Several staff
computers were old and needed to be replaced, so the trustees purchased 4 new computers and
the needed software to go with them. These 4 were distributed and several computers were
shifted in the process so that the oldest, least effective computers were discarded. Many
people were affected by these changes and our email service was down while the changes
were being made. Then the computer gremlins arrived. Don’t ask me why, but computer
gremlins always arrive when changes in computer systems are made. It took time to find and
evict these gremlins. Doing so meant other days when email was not working for all or part of
a day.
One other issue contributed to the problem and it has not yet been fully resolved. We live
stream our Traditions for Today worship service on our web site, but lately we have had
several problems with this. Live streaming stops before the service is ended or there have
been delays when you have gone to your computer expecting to find the worship service and
nothing appears. One solution was tried that did not correct the problem. Unfortunately that
solution did create problems for email in the church office. Please know that people are
working diligently to find a solution to the live streaming problem and we hope to have that
fixed sooner rather than later.
I am sure this is more information than you wanted about computer issues in the church
office, but I think it helps to know that people are trying to address problems that will enable
you to communicate with us in effective ways. Until the live streaming issue is resolved, I am
not ready to say that all email issues have been settled, but email is working now and it is my
hope you will have no more trouble with emails bouncing back. Should that happen, please
resend the next day. Rarely is the service down for more than one day. Now, I need to ask
you to do a favor for me. One of the new computers was put in my office and that happened
when I was not in the office. My email address is the same as it has always been
[email protected] and I have my past emails in the new computer. What got
lost in the transfer was my list of email contacts, which means I no longer know your email
address unless you send me an email. It would help so much if you would do that. It does not
need to be a long email message, just put “favor” or something simple in the message line and
hit send. That will put your email address back in my contacts, save me a lot of time in
researching email addresses, and make me very happy. Thanks for your help with this.

Did you know...
As you know, the Church Council voted to reinstate two of the FUMC church
wide events in 2013. One of these is Faith in Action. Missions & Outreach has
decided to move Faith in Action to the spring. We have a new and exciting
ministry starting this October with the adoption of Charlton-Pollard Elementary
School. Each of us has a God-given gift to contribute to this ministry. What a
wonderful opportunity to touch many children’s lives and make a real difference.
I urge you to pick up and complete a volunteer application in the church office as
soon as possible. …in the heart of the city, to love the city with the heart of
Christ.

Providence Place Formerly Methodist Mission Home, San Antonio
Giving God's Children a Faith, a Family, a Future...
Providence Place is divided into 3 specific ministries:
At ACTION ADOPTION, since 1895, they have helped expectant mothers who want a better
future for their babies than they can provide, and young people and families wanting to adopt and
provide a loving family to a baby or child.
At Center for Higher Independence, we work with young adults with disabilities and those who
are deaf. We provide work and life skills training that give them the confidence and ability to live
more independently.
At ECTROPIA, (Energy = Collaboration + Creativity + Community) we work with area
nonprofits, using creativity and collaboration to grow a vibrant campus community, where people
who have lived on the fringes and been excluded are welcomed and empowered.
Your Donation Works in Many Ways Your donation supports children seeking adoption, birth
mothers seeking a healthy alternative, adoptive couples or young people wishing to bring a child
into a loving environment, and young adults living with disabilities or deafness
